Deseret Bookshelf for Android
I haven't even used the new app yet but it doesn't make for a very good user experience when there is incorrect grammar on the second screen of the introduction to the app. I don't know if this is going to let me submit a screen shot but it says "we build our search to be the most robust and powerful than ever before" who wrote that? Is English their second language? Just sayin' it's kind of embarrassing. I'm sure they just changed their thought process mid sentence. I do it sometimes too. Just make sure you fix it before the next update. Also, another thing I just thought of: it would be cool if there was a daily quote widget for android users so you could just see the new quote on one of your home screens each day without even having to open the app! "Be inspired. Always."
Rubbish design after update bookmarks don't work, so fustrating because it takes you to the beginning of each chapter Don't buy ebooks because you cannot read them, waste of monry
I'm grateful for this App. It is a true blessing to have. Thank you!
I think it is a good app
Poor user onboarding
3 stars due to great concept, content and possibilities. I will give another star once the app remembers my reading spot. Content quantity is a BIG issue. Agree with comment that I shouldn't have to search. (Is there more out there?) As it is now, there are a out 10 items to choose from. Gotta fix that to get my last star. The silver lining is that I probably wouldn't have listened to "The Undaunted" and, wow, what an amazing story with a masterful narrator! The reading speed is at the bottom center of the player. It hasn't crashed on me. Very hopeful.
Fantastic app! Love the unlimited books & especially audio books. Worth trying. (It all works great except one feature that is important to me while listening, SPEED CONTROL. Speed control is not available to Android phones with operating systems with earlier versions than 6.0 so basically anything before Marshmallow.)
app is good but quote for the day doesn't work
I would NOT recommend this program to anyone! The bookmarks don't work.
I agree with the other posts about the problems. I still use this app as it has books I can't get from audible but am frustrated that it doesnt remeber where I left off.
I use this app primarily for audio books. This app needs a lot of work to come up to the level of audible or most podcast apps. 1. Crashes a lot. After it crashes it loses spot. Have to search to find where you are. 2. No sleep or timer function. 3. No speed option. Sometimes I like to listen at 1.25 x speed. The content is pretty good. I would like more audio books, but I'm happy with the selection at this time, while hoping it will grow with time. I'm also hoping the app can be improved. At this point I'm not sure I will continue the subscription after the free trial is over. Maybe I will check back in a few months to see if the needed improvements have been made.
I agree with most posts here, this app has great potential. However, like most comments I have found that the app will crash and forget where I am. I have also found that even though I have exited completely out of the app and the little notification area widgets, the app will spontaneously start up and continue the audio while in the middle of the store or in a meeting. Deseret Book needs to spend the money to hire more than one or two people to work on this app to make it what it will be sooner so they don't lose more customers.
It's frustrating that the app crashes a lot! When listening, if I start Google Maps or or audio enabled apps it crashes. Then to make it worse, it doesn't remembered I left off in the audio book. Please fix this issue. This has a great potential and would love to he's a bug free app.
The new plus service would be great but the app is completely unstable and forget it's spot after it crashes. It has crashed 3 times in the past 5 minutes. It is sad to see this service being hindered by such a unstable app. Also the store should be integrated in to the app. I don't know why I have to go to the website all the time Note: it am on a LG G3 running Android 6.0
I like the selection and am excited to increase my spirituality but the player has to have adjustable speed. I don't believe I will be able to justify spending the money each month without it.
Freezes suddenly. Signs out on its own. It has great potential - please update!
This app is terrible. They took the older version that at least works out for this one
The apps doesnt remember where i left off in my audio book and there is no widget. Please get a widget for the audiobooks
The idea is great, but app keeps crashing and I have to find the spot where I left off again.
I Love it
Got this app for the audiobooks, overall I'm happy as there are a ton of books I haven't listened to. It doesn't have a speed feature, so you can't listen at 1.5x or 2x the speed, which I find important. It also tries to use the cover image as background behind the chapter list, which might work for some books, but the ones I've seen you basically can't read the chapters. Last critique is it doesn't download books great. I set 5 to download, and it only download one partially. No way that I've found to see if the others are still queued for download.
I'm using the trial period for DB Plus, and I don't plan on subscribing beyond my free month. I'm interested primarily in audiobooks, but the player is glitchy, won't autosave (so I lose my spot when the app closes itself--annoying!), and doesn't have a speed control. Furthermore, the catalogue is not friendly to audio customers. Apparently there are 500+ books available, but I can't browse through the full list on the app or the website. I don't know what selection they have, and you expect me to pull a title from thin air to search? That's not the point of browsing. I was very excited to try out Plus and get some use out of this app. I don't leave reviews ever, but my disappointment is such that I needed to say something. I won't use this again. Two stars only because I like the material they offer.
I am grateful that Deseret Book is making content available. However, I find this app very frustrating. It constantly crashes, I cannot speed up the audio and most frustratingly, I can't find what I want. Supposedly they have a lot of audio available, but I seem to only be able to find the "top" books, which aren't always the books I am interested in. Even when I search by name I can't always find books that I can find on their website.
I like having daily inspiration. One would think, though, with the many different quotes available from the app, the daily quote would be pulled from more than just three sources.
To those who were complaining about pages being cut in half, you can switch to scroll mode to make each chapter in a scrollable single page. My only gripe is that it's hard to highlight with this app.
This app has a lot of bugs. In multi page mode everytime I switch apps it re-renders the chapter which seems to take a long time and in the it displays the page before the page I was on, why can't it just remember? Watching embedded YouTube videos work most of the time but is a frustrating experience. Compared to their previous versions I've noticed a lot of improvements but they have a fair way to go.
Without the ability to adjust playback speed, and with Deseret Book's near exclusive reliance on old, monotonous male narrators, this app is pretty much completely useless. I wish I'd waited to use the free trial.
I have loved using this app, but ever since the latest app update my audiobook won't play anymore. Please fix!
The app stops every time I leave and return to it. Also you have to create a new bookmark every time you want to book mark a spot. Also when the app stops you loose your place FYI thia is for the audible books.
There is no audiobook speed adjustment. This is kind of a deal breaker for me. In addition to that there are other bugs and glitches.
It's great, except for the fact that it makes my phone buzz everytime i turn a page.
Has wasted my time so far...Easter Friday so probably no one to talk to about it :'(
Thanks my world power I love you
