About chEck
chEck allows the user to quickly check E-numbers against predefined blacklists. The interface is designed to allow the user to as quick as possible check whether one or several E-numbers are blacklisted according to his/her preferences. The focus is on providing an application that can be used when buying food, to minimize the time spent checking E-numbers in the store.
To check whether a certain E-number is blacklisted, simply input the number on the main screen, and a red or green check mark is shown whether the item is blacklisted or not. The number pad design allows for several consecutive E-numbers to be checked in an instant by simply sweeping the finger vertically along a column.
The user can either chose to activate preloaded blacklists, or define his/her own custom blacklists. At the moment the following lists are preloaded, based on information from the corresponding sources*:
Eat halal - Ali Imam Center, Stockholm
source: http://www.imamalicenter.se/fa/kharid
Animal origin - National Food Agency, Sweden
source: http://www.livsmedelsverket.se/livsmedel-och-innehall/tillsatser-e-nummer/sok-e-nummer
*Note that the user has to make an individual assessment regarding which sources to trust, as the developer makes no claim of expertise in the E-numbers themself. The main focus of the application is rather to makes it as simple and quick as possible to check E-numbers against predefined blacklists.
