About Malichi Male
Malichi is not your everyday artist. His name cannot be associated with any other common contemporary acts – he cannot be labeled. His lyrics will not make you twerk, fall in love or turn you into a rebel. Instead his powerful words will revolutionize your thinking in the direction of positivity and enlightenment.
Only an elite group of artists over the last decade have the ability to expertly fuse the pulsating beats of hip hop, the smooth sounds of reggae and the soulful seductiveness of R&B and seamlessly brew them with consciousness and thought provoking lyrics. But that is exactly what Malichi does. His ability to amalgamate a variety of music genres and infuse them with inspirational messages has propelled him into a league of his own.
Hailing from Toronto Canada, Malichi enjoyed success as a secular artist but it was the life changing decision to become a Christian that dramatically shifted the path of his music career. Since then Malichi has not only transformed his lyrics into more conscious and inspirational messages but he has also reconstructed his image into a Christian hip-hop artist. By discussing real life issues in a relatable and honest manner, Malichi is able to transcend genres, religious affiliations and musical limits.
Through his music, Malichi is able to tackle heavy yet important issues like depression, poverty, gun violence and suicide, package it along the lining of infectious beats to deliver it to a diverse audience. As an artist Malichi isn’t afraid to meddle the lines of political correctness and controversial issues. A path many deviate from in order to ensure financial success.
Diverting from the pack of artists with illusory imaginations who sing about the acquisition of fancy cars and unattainable lavish lifestyles, Malichi’s lyrics often ring very close to home and do not stray far from his background and personal experiences. It is easy for him to create music about issues such as violence and poverty because he has lived it. As a native of Uganda, Africa, Malichi spent his childhood stricken with extreme poverty. His family lived way below the poverty belt and finding food each day was a battle. A full stomach was a luxury he was rarely afforded. Life in the slums of Uganda for Malichi and his brothers and sisters was a daily brawl that straddled the line between life and death.
“There was a tremendous struggle just to have a meal. One day my brother would eat, the next day it would be me, just so we could stay alive.”It wasn’t until he moved to Canada that Malichi was alerted to the harsh realities of his childhood. Discovering a new world of wealth, comfort and first world resources, Malichi realized just how grim his upbringing truly was. Up until then poverty was a norm he had grown accustomed to.
Malichi has come a long way from his humble beginnings in Uganda. Now, he has turned his tears into triumphs and transformed his journey into soulful lyrics that he now uses to inspire and motivate others. As a novelty in the field of music, Malichi’s risk has paid of tenfold and he has climbed the charts as one of Canada’s most successful Christian Rap artists.
In 2003 Malichi skyrocketed to the top of the charts with his conscious lyrics and synchrony of infectious beats. He invaded the Toronto urban airwaves and climbed onto the top ten urban music charts. He scored a top five single for six consecutive weeks on mainstream radio, while hitting number one on the Joy 1250 Christian radio's countdown. To date, Malichi remains the only Christian urban artist to simultaneously have a top 5 single on both Christian and secular radio.
With the release of his third album “Real Life”, Malichi has created a master blend of Hip Hop, R&B, Caribbean, Gospel and Reggae infused with the positivism and uplifting messages of Christianity.
