About Lichtwecker (dawn simulator)

Lichtwecker is a simple alarm clock which wakes with the backlight of a smartphone. Via a sequence of adjustable duration, during which the backlight lights up slowly, the awakening can be made more pleasant.

Attention: Consider the EULA ( http://cygery.com/wordpress/apps/legal/eula/lichtwecker/ ). Never rely on getting waked by this application. Always use another alarm clock you can rely on.

Everybody reacts different on ambient lighting. Therefore you should test different settings to find out which suits you best. Generally it's recommended to use this alarm clock in a completely darkened room to avoid disturbing influence of other light sources. The smartphone's position and orientation also have an impact on the functionality. A too close position with the display lighting directly on the eyes might be adverse because you awake on the lowest brightness level. On the other hand, a too great distance might render the application useless (because of the inherent low luminosity of the backlight).

Permissions:

RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: For reactivation of the alarm after a reboot or to show a notification if the alarm was missed.

Great tiny app with no extra permissions. Doesn't work with screen lock enabled. If you're getting "alarm was suppressed" error message, try disabling daydream. (Settings-display-daydream)

I REALLY appreciate this app for NOT spying. Unfortunately this is extremely rare.~ I wish the light was brighter

Doesn't work!!!

I've never been able to get this to work on my sony xperia z3 compact. It says it's set but never goes off/starts, stating that alarm was deactivated due to the phone being active, which is never the case. I've tried all the different options (changing lighting settings, duration, start & end time, setting it to go off a few minutes time, & several hours time) & still nothing. Very disappointing.

U70%
by U####:

Simple and exactly what I was looking for. In hopes this will work to keep my 2 yr old in bed. "Stay put til the light comes on". That being said, this would earn 5 stars from me if there were options for the light colors. If I could pick a green light to show it would go with the "green means go" concepts they are learning. Or even a simple picture could appear like a sunshine or something.

Worked great on my droid. Does not work at all on my HTC.

Great app.

Simple, does what it's supposed to, no gimmicks, effective. Only thing I could think of as an improvement would maybe be a dawn color scheme with warm colors, but not really necessary. Great job.

I used this app for a year or so and it worked great. Now, whenever I set it, it fails to go off. I get a message that the alarm was suppressed — phone was active. No idea what this means or how to fix it, so... uninstall and look for a better solution.

Either I don't get it or it simply doesn't work on my moto G running KitKat. Every time it fails saying phone in use, even tried it in aeroplane mode with the same result.

It seems like a good idea, but it never woke me up. I woke up before it should have been done one day, and it wasn't on. Samsung Galaxy S4 active

Another comment mentioned this app will wake the screen. Never happened for me. Put a post on the developer site last week. No response.

Nexus 5. Fiddled with all options, does nothing when the set alarm elapses. Disappointing.

I was considering buying a lumie alarm clock before finding this app. But this does the trick just fine. I woke up feeling less grumpy. Ideal for use when trying to wake up before natural sunrise

Does exactly what it should, let's the screen go completely black (I'm really sensitive to light when I sleep), and is free. Not a ton of frills, but everything it has is awesome.

Y70%

I'm so glad to have found this app. So many of the free dawn simulators try to do everything, but this one keeps it simple. It also pops up over my locked screen, which is something the others I tried couldn't manage.

This app works just fine for my purposes. I actually wake up when I need to, which is hard to do in the Pacific Northwest during the darkest, days of winter. I would love the ability to set and save different alarm presets. But that's the only thing that I think is missing. I'm not having the lock screen trouble that others are reporting. The author quickly responded to a problem that I was having. I'll try it out again tonight.

To the developer: either make the app suppress the screen lock, or allow it to work if the screen is on with minimum brightness.

H70%
by H####:

Great concept but.... Unfortunately it does not work with my phone. The notification says that the "alarm was suppressed due to phone activity." I can guarantee the phone was not being used. I'd recommend getting rid of that "feature/bug" altogether. After all, if I set the built-in alarm, it will go-off whether I'm sleeping or in the middle of rating a potentially cool app.... (Will rate 5-star when/if fixed)

Love how simple it is to set up, and it works beautifully on my Galaxy tablet. Lets me take my dawn light on travel, and give my 4 yo a gentle wake up without spending a fortune. As a free app it does everything it promised perfectly.

Near perfect. would be great if when the screen light up the color is black, and slowly move to red, then yellow, and only then increase backlight

Y70%

It didn't unlock my screen, so when I woke up and pressed the power button to unlock, I was blasted with the full brightness of the screen at the end of the alarm.

I wish I could set up recurring times.... it's quite bothersome to have to set my alarm everynight. But other than that it works.great!

Wouldn't override the lock on my Nexus 7. Never could get it to work.
