If everyone used the same resources as the average UK citizen, we’d need 3 planets to support us, when we only have one. This is not sustainable living. York’s ambition is to become a leading low waste city, using the One Planet York sustainability principles.
This app helps citizens, visitors and businesses within York to reduce, re-use and recycle. The planet points systems allows users to recognise their individual efforts and measure their contribution against others across the city.
The app includes:

I love the concept, but the app feels unfinished. Scanning for recyclables is great, but waste collection notifications don't work for me, and I get an error every time I click on the news section. The leaderboard for scanning recyclables also doesn't seem to update ever, apart from me.

I downloaded for notifications of waste dates but the notifications never work despite being switched on so looks like I'll be continuing with the checking the calendar on the fridge method to know what's being collected on which day unless this error gets fixed.

I think it's great to see York trying something new and the App has great potential to get news to residents and update changes to schedules etc... However, I think having a feature to scan every item you recycle is a waste of time. I'm sure that kind of data is very useful to sell to businesses or analyse centrally but just plain time consuming if you have any real volume of recycling.

Handy when it comes to recycling and waste collection day/date and type. Rest are umm umm. . .

Missed bins twice because notifications have stopped working, that's all I used it for so it's a pointless app. Better off putting your bin dates into Google calendar
