Hazards - Red Cross for Android
I'm not the first to complain about multiple allerts from the app. And there's is no way to opt out these queries regarding some power outage - on some days I got 40+ of them. Who was so smart to word questions that way: "Are you affected?Do you have power? HOW on earth can I answer Y or N?! NO I'm not affected and YES I have it.... Is it supposed to be Y or N??
Really want a app that can wake me up in the middle of the night even when I have sound turned off. Google already has a system in place that can do exactly this which I believe you will be implementing later on this year Update: - thanks for replying to my review. That's good to here as Apps are not given the necessary administrative authority (root acess) to override some system settings. But Google does. I look forward to any news on the subject. Also I would be willing to be a tester on the system and have already enabled "Emergency alert / test broadcasts" on my Huawei y6, Android 5.1
Seems like a good idea. But WHY can I not change the amount of hazards i get notifications about apart from once when I first opened it. I just want to know about the big stuff when I ask, not get spammed everyday with non life threatening stuff I'm going to have to uninstall it and try again. :/ cant even turn notifications off in the settings!
A little slow, but still a very thorough and useful application. UPDATE: Although the app is receiving alerts, it has recently stopped notifying me of them or sounding an alarm, (both sound and notifications are turned on). ISSUE RESOLVED: A start-up Manager app was blocking push notifications, all good now thanks.
This has been going on for 2 days now! This is obviously a bug in their app but instead of turning it off they seem to just be replying to everybody's comments with the same answer. Fix it now or I will have no option but to uninstall. As I suspect will many others.
The app has asked me so many times today if I'm affected by a power outage. This doesn't really seem like a notification I was expecting from this app. Let me disable non immediate threat alerts like this. There's settings for other things like Earth quakes, but no notification settings for power outages.
I've had a dozen hazard alerts for power outage today. Each one asks "have you got power" and I answer yes as I'm not affected. It then tells me I've said I AM affected and alerts me again within the hour.
From someone who works in the emergency services. I have only just discovered this app and believe it is an essential tool in surviving a disaster situation. Great information ℹ on the need to know basics and an invaluable early warning system for loved ones who live elsewhere. Big thumbs up to the dezigner! A++++++++
This Hazzard kerps informing me someone living nearby has reported a power outage and Hazzard asks me if my power is on. I check with the Vector app to find there is no electricity outage anywhere each time.
Is great in theory but I'm getting asked continuously about power outages. I can't turn this off and it first asks if I am affected (no), then asks if I have power(yes). Two opposite questions to which I get one chance to reply. This is frustrating and potentially going to give false feedback to others in my area.
Today I received 10-15 alerts for a power outage, despite me answering the alert I continued being bombarded. For this reason I've had to uninstall the app! Other than this 1 bug, its a great app. Please just allow for more control over the alerts as they kept coming, even when I disabled them!
Keeps asking me about power outages. When I choose the "we have power" option it says something to the effect of "thanks for telling us you don't have power". I can't turn the alert off. Still doing it Oct 2016, if it keeps doing it app to be deleted
The question whether power outage has affected us is misleading. The question goes 'there is a power ourage in your area, are you affected? Do you have power? ' so when you are not affected you would reply no, not affected, but then, yes we have power... the yes and no options an answers are not valid to this question.
I use my phone as my alarm clock so it's switched to silent at night.. It would be great if there was a feature to allow the alert to come thru if your phone is on silent.. With all the recent earthquake activity in the Pacific, I've woken up to see all the warnings I've missed while I've been asleep, which is a worry if we needed to evacuate..
The questions need thinking through and the correct answers. Eg. Question about earthquake near the sea. First response is to get to higher ground. Waiting for radio instructions not a good idea. Took local response and radio 2 more hours after event to alert to Tsunami danger. Also the scored responses noted more than one option but quiz only allows one option to be selected.
Your push notifications that seem to come through every 5 mins are driving me crazy. I thought this would be a great app to have but I am getting close to Uninstaller it. One notification per event is all I need. I've tried to find where I can change my notifications and it's not that obvious
During the 7.5 EQ last week it did not give me any alert about evacuation for a Tsunami. I was told by civil defense it's a good app to have. The settings are also very difficult to use. Very confusing .
Upgraded.added 5 locations and display corrupted by repeating 1 location. A screen refresh redisplayed correctly. Received earth quake alert @ approximately 2100 7sep M2.5 for Wellington. But Geonet has no record of any earthquake at this time.. cry wolf... Just received 27 eq warnings for last 24 hrs. Geonet site has 2 (two). This application is dangerous.
I will uninstall this heaving pile of cr*p with its overload of unnecessary alerts for stuff that I cannot turn off. I DON'T CARE that someone in my area reported a power failure!
1. The question asked for reporting has contradictory components. Have you got power, are you affected. It cannot be answered correctly. . 2. A ten km radius is too wide for power outage.
The app is a good idea. But when it asks me if I'm affected by a power outage. I respond no...then 10 minutes later it asks again..and then again every 30 minutes for hours.. very annoying..
Wow the power outage alerts are awful and annoying not to mention that they don't even indicate which location is affected. Why on earth can we manage alerts but these power ones seem exempt.
Would just like to ask the developers to have a look at their tests and the results. As in three of the tests I've answered correctly but has said that I haven't. (Earthquake, flood and the Landslide one)
As I work near the beach I rely on its tsunami warning. Especially with no siren system in place. What does need work however is the power outage notification. I receive a message reading similar to this: "are you affected? People are reporting power outages in your area. Do you have power?" Now I wasn't sure if I was to respond to the first question or the second. I clicked "yes" as in "yes I have power" but it took it as "yes I am affected by the outage". Please amend the phrasing of this question.
Had a dozen messages one after the other today about a power cut at one of my locations - which I'm not at. I DON'T need to know such petty rubbish! Can't seem to turn them off either. Are they going to go all night too?
downloaded twice and dont have the options under manage locations to turn on what alerts i get. i have to go into the app to get any alert information which defeats the purpose. really frustrating. Great idea though.
Change the way the alert areas work. If I set a radius of 20km I only want to know about things happening in that 20km radius. Not alerts that have been issued by civil defense almost 100km away but because the areas overlap I hear about everything.
Practically useless. Doesn't display any warnings for monitored location. We recently had significant storms and flooding in NZ and I received no alerts, despite having them turned on for these events (I triple checked). My civil defense texts were going crazy while this app sat silent. Not good enough for a life and death situation.
Power outage spam like notifications without any option to turn it off. Uninstalled due to that. Vectors app is more reliable for that scenario. The older CDEM app was simple and better. Alert me when it's an emergency not a mild power outage outside my area chosen or possible heavy rain warnings other sources already published hours earlier.
APP is a good effort but it needs a bit of refinement. A bit clunky to navigate and sometimes it won't load pages. Despite my settings in notifications it keeps blasting me with notifications and wont accept answers to alerts.
It CONSTANTLY bugs you about power outages in your area. There seems to be no way to make it stop buzzing at you. again and again and again. Stop. Stop telling me the power is out, even after I tell you its all good.
Can't assign city's to monitor, it used to be working fine. Now it's frustrating.. . . . . . . SOLVED! Support contacted me and worked through the app. Works fine now. Good to have.
The part where it quizzes you about what you know tells you you're incorrect when you select the correct answer in two of the questions. I re-did it to see if I'd accidentally selected the wrong thing, same result. I'm not going to follow the instructions of a poorly designed app that has incorrect information, I'd rather put in the extra effort and find out information I know is correct and wasn't mangled by the app developer.
I get a power outage message, no kidding, every 2 mins. It's sriving me nuts and I uninstall and install app again and seems to be fine for an hr or two then back to receiving these messages. I like the idea of this app but it's doing my head in. Uninstalling it for good.
Seriously. There's been a swarm of earthquakes up and down the country tonight and I have my phone on in case family and friends need to get in touch or there's a Red Cross activation. But mostly what I get - and at this point I just want to go back to sleep - is a string of earthquake alerts. There needs to be a way to make JUST THIS APP shut up.
Not able to add myself as a contact as I am not listed in NY own contacts. How do I know I will get reports.
It's okay when you can change notifications in chosen areas but a pain when you can't change anything with the home area. This app was great on my previous phone but frustrating on updated phone. Trying to re install to see if that helps.
I thought this would be a good app but I'm sick and tired of being peppered with alerts saying someone in my area has reported a power failure and asking if I am affected. Despite saying no, it still sends me alerts. I am uninstalling the app. Maybe in time after all bugs are ironed out I will look at it again.
Great piece of sotfware. Eady and efficient use! Great related info regarding hazards. Havnt had any problems related to previous comments. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Previously used this app on a Samsung Galaxy and it worked very well. Received all alerts that I subscribed to including sound. Have recently upgraded phone to a Huawei P8 Lite. Have reset all alerts etc but am not getting any notifications. Will be uninstalling if I cannot find a fix. Uninstalled and then reinstalled app, adjusted alert settings and it has kicked back into life. Great app for keeping in the know on major events and weather alerts.
