About Joburg Indaba
Over the past five years, the Joburg Indaba has developed a remarkable reputation as a conference where the industry engages in insightful, bold conversations that are frank, robust and to the point.
With its hard hitting newsworthy content distilled from the stimulating and often controversial discussions, the Joburg Indaba has made headlines in all the main media as an event with a difference.
Since its inception, the Joburg Indaba has succeeded in interrogating a wide range of critical issues affecting all stakeholders and thus enjoys overwhelming support from mining and resource companies, investors, labour, government and the media.
In 2016 we launched the SA Mining Hall of Fame at a gala dinner in recognition and celebration of key role players in South Africa’s mining industry. The inaugural nine inductees were Bobby Godsell, Patrice Motsepe, Sipho Nkosi, Gwede Mantashe, May Hermanus, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngucka, Brian Gilbertson, Mark Bristow and Barry Davison.
We also launched the Joburg Indaba Index, a perception survey of the industry’s readiness to modernise, from which the definition of Modernisation was heralded as: “A Modern Mining Industry will optimally extract and beneficiate the country's natural resources, causing no harm to people or planet. It benefits both the local community as well as the national economy. It procures locally, is a preferred employer of well-skilled people and creates appropriate risk-adjusted returns for investors. Regulations, taxation and incentives are consistent, transparent and recognise mining as a long-term driver of economic growth.”
Working as we do in close consultation and partnership with influential figures in the mining industry and investment community, the Joburg Indaba will continue to answer the call by industry – to deliver a conference with a difference.
As we continue to grow, 2017 will be no different and you can once again expect a powerhouse of business, government and labour leaders to join in bold debates.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, our supporters, for sharing this journey with us and enabling us to continue doing what we love – delivering a memorable and valuable event to the industry.
Look forward to seeing you in October.
