Colorado Public Radio for Android
I like this app for what it does, but it constantly drops the stream of live programming. It's done this too me on multiple devices too. Same problem with the official NPR app. And it's been doing it for a long time. I think we need another pledge drive to get some development on this platform!
The app is simple and brings CPR to anywhere I am, with Internet access. Only one bug-- it randomly cuts out for no apparent reason. I have to restart the playing several times a session. I still love it, though. Thanks, cpr, I'll be donating my vehicle soon!
I like CPR, but the app is terrible. It buffers for several minutes even I a good connection. Then when I've given up and played something else, it comes on over the top of what I switched to. Also, it doesn't pause when disconnected from Bluetooth and drains my battery. Lastly, there is something preventing full volume, but the box that comes up to override, disappears right away.
WORKAROUND FOR TIMEOUT ISSUE: Through trial and error I found the app does not drop if the phone is charging. Not a great solution, but a workaround until they can fix the problem. Orig Review: I used to love this app, but just recently it started dropping constantly. I am connected to my home wifi, so there are no data issues. It looks like the app is timing out. It will work for a while, then stop. When I go back into the app it will start again for a while. Looks like other people are reporting the same problem - hopefully they get this fixed ASAP!
Great content and access. Heavy battery drain that seems worse on new android update. Also have had trouble when on wifi and stopping when texts or emails arrive.
I love the "sleep" and alarm features, since i like to fall asleep to the bbc. Update: Dec 28: I can prevent the error "1008" from being displayed by changing "stream type" to .mp3 in app preferences. The only drawback to this approach is that now it takes nearly a full minute to buffer the stream on my home internet connection. Incidentally, that buffer is a full 60 seconds, which seems excessive to say the least. 4 stars. 5 if you guys can shorten that buffer in the next update.
While I am grateful for CPR, and for an app which would ideally substitute when out of the range of radio coverage, it would seem that a fiend has written a bit of code which can detect when I am engaged in a task which prevents me from handling my phone, and takes the opportunity to randomly drop coverage for up to minutes at a time, and often until I can finally just restart the app. Really frustrating, but other that that, great?
You'll be engrossed in a story, then all of a sudden just silence. You hope the app buffers fast enough so that you don't miss anything important, breathing a sigh of relief when your story comes back on, and then, stops again, never to return. So you close down the app, bring it back up only to have it hiccup once more. Then keel over and die a thousand deaths. I'm sorry, but I can't listen to this app suffer anymore. Please give it the attention it needs or consider humanely putting it out of its misery.
Not worth installing. You'll end up far more frustrated with the constant pausing and crashing than the pleasure you would otherwise derive from listening to CPR. The app has one job, and it is terrible at it.
useful app for streaming, but the connection cuts out regularly (maybe once every 10-20 minutes). would be perfect if not for this.
It constantly cuts off no matter my internet connection, so much to the point that I really no longer use it.
** since samsung update on 3/31/2017 app times out after about 6 minutes** please send an update when available.
Steam continually drops or pauses. Can't even make it through one story.
As much as I would love to rate this app well I can't. Not once has the streaming of CPR news worked, not once. Hope you get it fixed.
Only bummer about this app is that it turns off after several minutes of listening
Colorado Public Radio. Best radio station locally.
I still refuse to accept the intrusive upgrades. Why does it need to know my acciunt information, contacts, or the phone numbers I call? The previous version is working OK without them, but will probably break someday
Love the classical music
1. I resent the volume control. I walk next to a high traffic street and I can hear the radios from passing cars better than I can the show I am listening to on this Ap. I am the human and I should have control over my health (volume), not this Ap. I don't mind the warning, but I am already in an environment that is bad for my hearing, let "me" choose how I damage it. 2. A mono vs stereo would be appreciated. It would allow only 1 ear bud while listening for cyclists. Thank you.
Reception drops out then back in too often. I have a strong WiFi reception and only about 10 ft from the router. Many times I have to relaunch the app to continue listening.
Not sure what happened, but in the past 2 months I've started having problems with it dropping out and restarting sporadically but frequently...making it very frustrating to listen to. This is the exact reason I switched from the NPR app to this one...which is now failing me.
I have used this app often and I'm glad my pledge $ goes to the developers that make this! Cheers to you all and I am sorry the negatives are from users that have terrible devices. Cheers to you all!
Love the app its similar to their online website but more polished look. I have had no issues with the app and use it mainly to listen to Open Air channel which is such a great station.
I enjoy all three aspects of this radio app. The news and classical are great, of course... but the Open Air station has turned me on to so much great new music!
FINALLY AN APPPPPP!
Use it without a problem every day.
Only issue... I sometimes get an error message while streaming and have to reopen.
It's the only way to have Public Radio anywhere I go!
No support for Chromecast Audio.
Works well... just one touch needed!
Excellent UI, great streaming quality
I still refuse to accept the intrusive update. Why does it need to know my account information, or the phone numbers I call? It's working ok without them, but will probably break some day.
Has issues with.just stopping at random. Must restart it.
I love this app but live streaming should have an option to "cast" the broadcast!
I love being able to listen wherever I am. Thank you!
Great
This is essentially just a redundancy of their mobile website. Why do I need an app for this? The only extra is that you can set an alarm to wake you with the stream. I could also do this with my 20yr old alarm clock/radio next to my bed. No information on the quality of stream, but I'd bet that it isn't great. Why no HD stream yet? Undoubtedly well developed, but again, unnecessary.
I like this app. It even works on my older Google Nexus phone. I particularly like the alarm clock feature so I can wake up to whatever is playing on CPR. Currently I am streaming classical music with this app while on my phone service (not on wi-fi) without any problems.
This is an excellent app. Nicely designed. Easy to use & intuitive. Would be perfect if it had Chromecast support, but aside from that, it's a really solid experience.

I grew up in San Francisco listening to the California report every day of my teenage life. I lived in Oregon for a few years where we just didn't have a decent public radio program. Living in Denver, I listen to cpr every day and it enlightens me, and brings me back to my roots. Thank you cpr!
