What are users saying about 2012 AGU Fall Meeting

by T####:

I set up an itinerary via the agu web site and spent a lot of time updating and adding to it. Now I want that itinerary on my device but can't figure out how to make that happen. Where do I tell tis POS software my username/pass/whatever so it can find and download my info?

T70%
by T####:

I really cannot search abstracts in the windows of abstract titles labeled "search abstracts"? Is it just me? I sure don't see a way to do this so... Why is it called "search abstracts"? I HOPE it is just something I'm missing.

T70%
by T####:

Before installing updates, it helps to go to Settings and clean up all data. Same bug was also present in the last year's app.

T70%
by T####:

The app can be handy but man, the UI/UX is frustrating. I am hesitant to use this app because it asks for an enormous variety of sensitive permissions that seem to be unneeded. The event search works better than the actual AGU meeting website but I'm am afraid that I am still left disappointed. I finally uninstalled It because of the extremely shady permission requirements.

T70%
by T####:

Some of the earlier reviews seemed rather negative, so I was a bit wary. I downloaded it anyway, and it actually works fine. The UI is a tad clunky but not unusable. I haven't had any particular stability issues yet. Honestly, finding sessions and people is actually easier than the normal meeting website, which has always been quite awful as long as I've been going to AGU meetings (5 years or so.) There's still some improvements to be made. For example, it would be nice if the schedule had a week layout.

T70%
by T####:

NEEDS TO SYNC w our personal program the abstract central system, otherwise this is useless.

F70%
by F####:

App will only sync your agenda if you create it with the app webinterface. It will not sync with the agenda you create (or have created) FM website. App requires wide ranging access privileges. The maps are low res pixel images of the Moscone center, the room numbers are barely readable. IMHO, it is much easier and more comfortable to simply export my agenda into my existing calendar...

T70%
by T####:

The app won't let me set the date and time of a session. It insists that I've set the end time before the start time, and then resets the date to Nov 30. Unless this is fixed, this app isn't worth much to me.

T70%
by T####:

Crashes repeatedly, slow, useless waste of space. Disappointing.

T70%
by T####:

Buggy, crashes constantly. Sessions just takes me to events, can't view regular sessions. Browse by date crashes every time. Would be handy if the bugs get fixed.

T70%
by T####:

Features incomplete, buggy, freezes, etc.

C70%
by C####:

An app for this conference to help organize your week would be great. Unfortunately there are far too many bugs with this one. Crashes repeatedly. Maybe next time.

O70%
by O####:

After installing the new update the app crashes every time its launched. Good work AGU.

M70%
by M####:

Does not work on Motorola ATRIX

T70%
by T####:

Why do you want to read my contact data (and send it to the internet)? You should not need this for such an app, that is what intents are for (if I want to share something via some social media thingy)! I tried to start the app with network access denied, but it would not load. Too bad, I wished, it could have helped on the conference. Uninstalled.

R70%
by R####:

This app could have been very nice, but it would never download no matter how long I waited.

L70%
by L####:

Would not load any information. Crashes.

L70%
by L####:

Plain bad coding

K70%
by K####:

In session lists of talks or posters, the presenting author should be listed right after the title. Having to click on the talk snd then the abstract to find out who is presenting is ridiculous.

C70%
by C####:

AGU's app gets worse each year. Won't load at all.

C70%
by C####:

I used this app mutiple times during the conference, and it had no stability issues. I liked it more than the daily paper, but there are a lot of ways it could be improved. For example, a "home" button would have been nice. In addition, the overall organization was weird.

C70%
by C####:

Do not waste time downloading.

C70%
by C####:

App crashes after update. There goes my schedule for the day. Going home. What are you thinking??? So, what am I going to do tomorrow???

Q70%
by Q####:

It was slow and kept crashing my phone. After the update it doesn't open at all. Interface left a lot to be desired to begin with

C70%
by C####:

Crashes, slow to update, not very easy to search through talks.

C70%
by C####:

Searching for author, abstract, session, or anything is near impossible. Doesn't sync with itinerary. The maps have no context and are low resolution.

C70%
by C####:

Too many bugs, no utility

C70%
by C####:

Awful and completely useless application. Web site also not good because of low bandwidth I guess. It is very hard to create your schedule at the Web site and use it on your phone. There is no map of the streets, how to go from one building to another, and how to find the building location at all? The update system block the application, without mobile internet you cannot use it.

C70%
by C####:

If you want to see what's on in the afternoon on Monday, say, you have to scroll through every single session in every single section? Is that right? I would search by track, but Atmospheric Sciences isn't on the list.

Z70%
by Z####:

Many conferences offer dedicated apps these days. None of them are perfect, but this is by far the worst. It's amazing that AGU with 20,000+ attendants cannot pay for a better software.

T70%
by T####:

Trying to plan my schedule on this app is incredibly frustrating. The itinerary planner on the website has a better interface, and is more responsive. I was really looking forward to having a smartphone with an app this year, but after this frustration, I'll stick with printouts from the Itinerary Planner. Why on Earth can't you sync the itinerary planner to the app?!?

A70%
by A####:

Sloppy display of my schedule. Poster and oral sessions should have different colors. Individual talks should be down inside bookmarked sessions. Disappointing

T70%
by T####:

Spends ages updating at the beginning and then finally tells me that I don't have an internet connection -- even when I do! I uninstalled it after two days of trying.

S70%
by S####:

The app is quite stable on my Xperia Arc S, but certainly has many annoying drawbacks: -- You cannot use the app during sync, which doesn't have to be true for updates that don't involve your schedule or other critical updates. -- Looking at program by track - it keeps title "Schedule Program", instead of replacing it with track name. If you choose oral or poster - same thing, instead of e.g. Biogeochemistry:Oral etc. -- Bookmarking particular talks or abstracts is hard since you have to open the talk two layers down, it doesn't have a star icon next to talk title. -- In session has topics-authors-abstracts subsections, topics are exactly the same as abstracts, but if you click on topic, it is higher level. -- Once you bookmark it, or even look at the talk and go back to session level - it returns you to the top of the session, which is particularly annoying with long poster sessions. -- When I add new session it keeps reminding that I already have something planned for the time. It is fine for oral, but for posters it is supposed to be this way, especially since they are 6 hour long sessions. -- Search by topic returns Dec 31 as a day for all results, which is not true.

N70%
by N####:

Hard to tolerate an app like this that won't stay current.

C70%
by C####:

Doesn't seem like you can put an itinerary done on a computer on your mobile.

C70%
by C####:

No problem with update, search, meeting planning on an HTC sensation running android revolution ICS

C70%
by C####:

This app is a total waste of time and money. It is unable to download updates and refuses to start... Really disappointed.
