About Morcombe's Birds of Aus (Lite)

This is a LITE version of The Michael Morcombe eGuide to the Birds of Australia but is fully functional and includes ONLY 59 species, compared to over 790 species in the full app. If you like the way this app works please check out the full version.

NB: Please note that an additional download of 31MB is required once this app has been installed. Please ensure you use a WiFi connection to prevent additional data costs.

The foremost field guide to Australian birds is now available on the Android.

Michael Morcombe's Field Guide to Australian Birds has been called the most comprehensive field guide to Australian birds in the market today and now it is perfectly complimented by the eGuide which features:

● Optimised controls – swipe to next or previous species, one-tap enlargement of an image and rotate the device (landscape) to enlarge an image completely (and fit the width of the screen).
● Over 230 hi-res bird images covering 59 bird species.
● Most bird species have a detailed distribution map showing any subspecies that occur.
● Detailed text descriptions of almost all bird species including songs and calls, measurements and breeding behaviour.
● Over 170 carefully-selected and edited sound recordings. Many species are represented with multiple call examples showing the full range of vocalizations.
● The ability to compare any two images, maps, or sounds, side by side on the screen.
● The ability to filter by geographic location, so that you see only the species likely to occur in your location, and to further reduce the possibilities to usual or vagrant species in the selected area.
● A "Smart Search" that gives the ability to search by distinguishing features such as size, colour, physical features, habitat and exclude certain types of birds (eg. Passerines).
● *A basic personal species list that stores your sightings saved to the device (ability to upload list coming soon)
● A comprehensive help and introduction section to help you if you get stuck or don’t understand how a certain feature works.

* Uninstalling/reinstalling the program will result in the loss of your list, it is recommended that you keep a backup from the application (My List -> Export).

Lite trial version, won't download the data, so can't even try it out. Which is problematic for an app costing as much as the full version does, when users report compatibility problems with recent Android versions. Maybe these apps are not being maintained any more?

It fails to start reports a database error

Useless unfortunately. Did nothing but freeze my phone. Turned off, rebooted, still doesn't work.

It doesn't really have many birds compared to the full version and sadly the price for that is a bit steep for me.

Seems to be a interesting but very well thought out app. The options for making bird identification easier is a welcome surprise. However I see this particular app version more of a "trial" than a "lite" with only a small amount of birds available. As for the people crying and moaning over the price is moronic since a paperback version apart from missing out on my locations and bird calls will easily be looking at $40-50+. Please keep up the good work and eagerly looking forward to getting the full version

Grrr great nothing to look for

I don't think the full version is worth the price. The sounds are a really good feature but I wish there were actual pictures instead of drawings.

R70%
by R####:

Not sure what the point is of getting the 'Lite' App when it works great but when one tries to download the FULL version the App refuses to download saying 'device is incompatible'. I would think you would design both the trial and full version to work on same devices as we cough the table device based on the 'lite' one working and now being unable to install the App made it all a waste of money :-(

Waste of time did not work. Paid for full version, it did not work either. Getting refund now. I have seen this app work but no good on my Samsung Galaxy S3.

Lite version is entirely useless

K70%
by K####:

A very impressive app (as is the book which I have). But price it at less than $10 and you will sell many more. Shame about the difficulty for people of downloading the mass of data required, but hard to solve that problem - can do via PC.

T70%
by T####:

I'd gladly purchase the full version if it was a little less expensive. I understand the amount of work that went into the app, it shows, but you can get bird guide books with more info for less. I think more profit could be made with a reduced price as a higher volume of people would buy it. Maybe the price of a bird guide book, $15-$20?

Downloaded the lite version to check it out. Not possible to download the necessary files from Earthlink. Numerous tries but keeps disconnecting half way through. Certainly wouldn't pay the money for the full one if I cant get the files.

I would love to purchase the full Morcomebe's Birds of Aus. It is beautiful!. The problem is, I cant spend nearly $30 here, and so must pass it up for a lesser "freebie".. IF Morcomebes were to drop the price to $15 or less, this GEM of a Bird reference would sell in huge numbers, instead of languishing on the shelf. How about it?

R70%
by R####:

Great pics and descriptions. Listen to several bird calls for each species. Set location to search only local birds. Enough common birds here to learn before I install the full version. Better than a field guide book.

is it the world's most expensive app? must be! by the way the demo version do not work.... waste of time

In the lite version, a search for 'green', 'parrot like' birds in SE Australia returns no birds. Not very helpful.
