About Net Nanny for Android

The original, award-winning Net Nanny™ parental controls is now available for Android. Give your child the freedom to surf the Internet without the fear of inappropriate content. Net Nanny is a custom mobile browser that becomes your child’s default browser. Manage which apps your child can or cannot use on their mobile device. Manage your child’s settings and devices, view reports, add users and much more from the web-based console. Simply follow the installation instructions and create a user profile for your child on his or her device. Use one of the pre-defined age-based user profiles or customize settings to include categories you create or specific sites you wish to block or allow.

APPLICATION MANAGEMENT
Show which apps are installed on the protected mobile device. Parents can block unwanted apps, see when new apps are installed, and even prevent new apps from running until approved.

AGE-APPROPRIATE FILTERING
Choose from among four pre-defined, age-appropriate user profiles for your filter settings: Child (ages 7 and under), Pre-teen (ages 8-12), Teen (ages 13-17), Adult, or customize your own settings.

18 FILTERING CATEGORIES
Each category can be configured to Block, Warn or Allow access to a page containing content in that category. Parents can also create their own custom categories.

STRICT SAFE SEARCH ENFORCEMENT
This app enforces the strictest safe search setting on all popular search engines.

ANTI-CIRCUMVENTION
Once installed, kids must use the Net Nanny browser. Other browsers cannot launch. Administrator credentials are required to uninstall the app. It also prevents most common task killers and app managers from stopping or uninstalling the app. SSL proxy sites are filtered. Strong uninstall and anti-circumvention tools ensure your child is always protected.

REAL TIME CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS
Web pages are categorized in real time, including brand-new web sites and sites with user-generated content, such as comments or posts. With over 150,000 new web pages each day, traditional list-based filters cannot adequately protect your family.

SSL FILTERING
Filter HTTPS sites using real time contextual analysis

PROFANITY MASKING
Swear words are replaced with characters (@#$%) so web pages with otherwise-appropriate content can still be viewed.

REMOTE WEB-BASED MANAGEMENT
Administrators can manage any number of users and devices from a web-based console. Log in at admin.netnanny.com to manage your family’s settings and account. Setting changes are reflected on the device in under a minute. You can also manage your Windows, Mac, or iOS users from the same console and the user and family settings will work across all four products.

TIME CONTROLS (WEB BROWSING)
Set when and how long (per day or per week) that your child will be allowed to browse the internet using their protected Android device.

CUSTOM WHITELIST AND BLACKLIST
Create custom lists for sites that should always be allowed (whitelist) or always be blocked (blacklist). Parents can also permanently override a blocked site on the device.

WIFI AND 3G/4G/LTE PROTECTION
Your child’s mobile device is protected no matter what network they are using.

ACTIVITY REPORTS
Use the web-based Admin Console to view top web pages visited, blocked categories and alerts.

EMAIL ALERTS
Receive email notifications whenever a site is blocked, a block is overridden, or other events occur

What are users saying about Net Nanny for Android

As of at least a month ago, this program stopped blocking download of apps and doesn't bloc chrome anymore. If you want to view a page in Chrome, just open chrome. When you see the warning that chrome isn't allowed just minimize the window with the little square. Then maximize it again and you'll have a chrome browser window you can type any URL into even if it's blocked by the net nanny profile installed on the device. So the program doesn't work. They say programmers are working in it but....

T70%
by T####:

Net nanny interferes with the normal functions of the phone. I can't even turn my screen light brighter without net nanny blocking this action. You're supposed to be able to go on their website to allow certain actions. But this is ridiculous! I shouldn't have to OK turning up the light on my phone. I have tried to change the setting on net nanny but with no success!

T70%
by T####:

My teenage son turned off the net nanny app in application manager. [I gave it 2 stars because my 13 year old son & 2 year old granddaughter haven't figured out how to do that YET!!!]That makes the app pointless and a waste of my money. I just want an app that works and keeps my kids safe while on the interent.

T70%
by T####:

I'm sure this app does what bit is intended to do. However, I am looking for a pay once type of app not a yearly subscription. I don't understand wh everyone is complaining this app is to keep kids away from harmful apps and websites. If you're an adult and have this and rated this app poorly because you can't figure out then something is wrong with you. Just not something I want to pay yearly. P.s the reviews had me doubt this app but inset the one star reviews must be from kids.

T70%
by T####:

Purchased and installed on a Windows 10 PC based on a PC Magazine "editor's choice" rating. Total waste of money, essentially a rip-off. Does not work with Chrome browser and support is non existent. Avoid ! Zero stars.

T70%
by T####:

All I wanted to do was use the app to manage an account. It wanted to register my phone, but when you click on the link it provides and login, all you get is a page asking you what subscription you want to purchase. I have never been please with there interface on the web either, not user friendly at all.

This apps works just as it should. I have not had more trouble with it crashing than any other major mobile browser. Also, you can choose whether or not it blocks your phone settings on the online control dashboard. I'm thankful for this app.

T70%
by T####:

It is good for filtering and parental controls. It does the job almost all the time. Occasionally it just doesn't work for some reason and you are able to get around it. My biggest beef with it is that it uses the firefox browser, and not even the current versions of firefox. It is such a horrible browser that I install apps for every website I go to often so I can avoid using it. Unfortunately it is really the only option right now for a porn filter for Android.

Z70%
by Z####:

This app is super glitchy, and it is so easy to disable it. It blocked my settings and for a while I couldn't figure out how to unblock it. Sometimes it let me use the chrome app and other times it wouldn't, it would keep making me put in the parental controls every time I opened it. Even if the app worked well and blocked what it needed too, any teenager with a brain can figure out how to disable.

T70%
by T####:

Like other users have said it is great at filtering but socially networking sites are still accessible when blocked. Also the browser routinely crashes and re-initializes when reading a simple article. Recent update same problems. Downgrading to one star.

T70%
by T####:

Filtering is great on this app. Great features and has live remote access. Which is great. But please update the browser guys. It regularly crashes, videos don't play, and it is super slow. You can also simply restart the phone and the app won't work For about 5 mins. Also, using certain features on the browser will cause it to crash and ALL the filtering/blocking ceases. Essentially just use the browser and you will eventually crash it. Such a shame!

T70%
by T####:

Please save yourself the trouble of downloading or buying this program! First of all, it did not block chrome or the android web browser. Second, it blocked the android settings and it was a long time until I finally figured it out. Thirdly, the net nanny browser is SLOW! And it gets stuck easily. The fourth and most important is that you can easily disable net nanny from at&t's built-in usage manager app I hope this review helps!

W70%
by W####:

The app just closes without warning. This happens especially when there's a lot to load on the page, and can happen multiple times in the same day. I've also had issues with it disrupting the settings on my phone or even blocking me from accessing my settings on my phone. It does a good job of blocking things when using the browser, but is easy to get around if you don't use the browser. Paired with another app blocking app like covenant eyes it works well to keep things safe, but still annoying.

T70%
by T####:

This app pops up for everything!! I wanted it for myself and my kids. Accountability is important, I don't watch or look at anything I wouldn't want my kids looking at but pop ups are everywhere.however if I have to put my password in every. Single. Time. I open an app i just don't want to use my phone. Once I have okayed a site or app, it should stay that way.

T70%
by T####:

Used it to monitor my kids tablets and the sites they visit but my 6yr old somehow managed to bypass administration password it and delete it off his tablet. I had it installed on my phone and every time I get a call the Netnanny administration screen pops up. I only subscribed because I heard it was one of the best, which now I really doubt. It's not a very good app and I'm not impressed with it at all.

K70%
by K####:

I hate this app. It did not work, and restricted every thing I did not want it to restrict. In all, it was very confusing and it took me a week to figure out. It is also very controversial with its dilution of a woman. She is VERY skinny with hair in a tight bun. After seeing that picture a few times, my kid wanted to be an nanny so she can "have that body"

T70%
by T####:

Since this last update every app that is on our phones and tablets is blocked. And th hey all s as you the same thing does not allow access to Facebook. How does the weather channel app have anything to do with Facebook? Fix this bug and I'll rate higher.

T70%
by T####:

The application has a lot of good: monitor the phone for appropriate use, block inappropriate websites, and block applications as needed. The issues I have are that you must use their proprietary browser for secure operations, no way to force safesearch and if the application crashes (which it did after 10 minutes of use), the system is open. Competitors allow the use any browser and the Windows application can use any browser with their plugin.

T70%

This ap is helpless to do anything with the permanent google search bar on a moto e phone. Useless. Spent at least 3-4 hours on the phone with net nanny, Motorola, and google. No answers and no protection.

T70%

I am the parent and i cant even maked the app work. Very bad. I recommend to all parents like me to not to get this app.

T70%
by T####:

Won't let me get into my settings and I can't even go on the Internet without having my mom type it in. This is an invasion of my privacy and this should never have been created.

J70%
by J####:

The worst! It slows down your phone system, has random pop ups and unfortunately can easily be bypassed by anyone. DONT GET IT.

S70%
by S####:

It wont let me go on any websites or even go to settings!!! Dont get it. Dosnt deserve any stars.

T70%
by T####:

1. Doesn't do its job right. 2.the owner needs the app's permission to uninstall. 3.it is supposed to be an additional set of settings on your phone, but no. It's an app that doesn't let you acess your settings or any browser. Google play says that I hated it since I gave it 1 star, but you can't uninstall it!I STILL HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

L70%
by L####:

Its sooooo stupid wont even let me on my settings never get this worst thing ever

T70%
by T####:

It's a good app overall but the browser is so terribly clunky it crashes all the time and it's very non-user-friendly

T70%
by T####:

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APP! Do u use Windows? Does it work 4 u all the time? Would u consider another OS to avoid using it? I'd bet the answer would be no...u just deal w/ it/figure it out & ultimately it does the job for u. Same w/ Net Nanny. I assume many reviews are mad teens who CAN'T get access to what they want, which means it DOES work. For others (ie- parents who administer the software), they just want it to work out of the box, which NO software does! Suggestions on improving this for their low-tech users: troubleshooting section for easily-fixable issues (ie- setup related) OR, heck, provide a community message board for all users to help provide answers to common issues (ie- not SW related)! PROS: intelligent content filtering/controls; app controls; custom filtering; settings control; user control CONS: improve Firefox (ie- crashes); initial SW setup not intuitive; showing interest in customer's issues (this is the lifeblood of any tech product if u want to improve it w/ goal of building the bottom line!) I BELIEVE THIS PRODUCT IS A COMPLETE, FULL SCALE SOLUTION TO PROTECTING YOUR LOVED ONES ON THE WEB!

I can't get on any app or game for crap and also what everyone is saying is that this app sucks balls like no app has before

L70%

T70%

It doesn't even work very well it blocks everything I HATE it.

T70%

WHAT A NIGHTMARE THIS NEW VERSION WILL BE WHEEEEEE! (KILL OR ELSE)

T70%
by T####:

The only complaint I have about the app is its intermitten crashing, when it's not even in use you would sometimes get, "Net Nanny has stopped" or other similar message therefore its security would crash with it making it useless. Please fix this ContentWatch!

BLOCKS ME FROM MY SETTINGS!!!!!!! I HATE PUTTING THE PASSWORD IN EVERY TIME!!!!!!!! DONT DOWNLOAD THIS. I HATE NET NANNY AND I WOULD RATE THIS 0 STAR IF A COULD. I FEEL LIKE THIS

T70%
by T####:

It might as well be. It restricts basic functions, including ACCESSING SETTINGS. If your parents consider, tell them your freind got it and had to get a new phone. If you are a parent and considering, don't, your child will hate you.

H70%

Blocked me from doing anything playing game's going to my settings and from google don't download it(you will get tortured if you download Net Nanny)

T70%

I am having the same issue I see listed by a few other below. It is blocking my kids access to apps but saying it's because they don't have Facebook permission. 2 issues with that 1st being the app he is accessing has nothing to do with Facebook (and no its not linked to his Facebook) 2nd he does have Facebook permission (I've marked it allow in settings). I am currently working with them via a support ticket. Will update later if we get it fixed.

Every time i try to use one of my games the app doesnt let me because it thinks im using Facebook and blocks me off and the net nanny website browser is very horrible it works worse then my phone does when its on mc donalds wifi get this thing fixed up and if its an app for an android shouldnt it work for an android i am very confused and very irritated. With what the app does to you. We have tried to change the settings so i dont get irritated by the face book notification but it doesnt change the setting

T70%
by T####:

I like o it because it tells me not to watch youtube but I can through instagram web

T70%
by T####:

Everyone who can't figure how to get to their settings needs to go to the Admin console and just check the box under user settings to allow it. While youre in there you can tell it to block any app on the phone and any newly installed app. This is good. Filtering is as good as PC because it's exactly the same. Only bad thing is you have to use the Net Nanny browser to get web filtering. The browser is Firefox, but I dont like this limitation. If they ever figure out how to filter all browsers it gets 5 star

K70%
by K####:

It filters very well maybe to well but there is ways around it . Facebook and instagram and Utube are still accessible. But I want this crap off my phone now and it says it has to deactivate...how the heck do I get it uninstalled??? Still cant get this darn thing off and it frustrates me because I cant on the internet without a password...
