It's also our goal to introduce orchestra members to a wide range of new contemporary music as well as the great standard repertoire. Our approach keeps concert programs fresh and interesting. NYO (San Diego) - a youth symphony orchestra is rapidly becoming the premier musical ensemble experience for San Diego's young instrumentalists.

For years to come, the whole community will enjoy concerts and other exciting events sponsored by our innovative The New Youth Orchestra (San Diego) - a youth symphony orchestra.

We all look forward to programs that contain interesting and diverse symphonic music written by major composers. These compositions will include: Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Elgar Symphony No. 2, Mahler Symphony No. 5, Martinu Symphony No. 6, Bruckner Symphony No. 3, von Weber Symphony No. 1, Tubin Symphony No. 3, Walker Sinfonia No. 1, Schnittke Symphony No. 8 and Philip Glass Symphony No. 7.

Join Us for 2013-2014 Season

The New Youth Orchestra (San Diego) a youth symphony orchestra (NYO) is happy to announce its next season (2013-2014) that will be starting September 2013. It will be a very exciting time for us in terms of member growth, but even more, seeing our ensembles further develop musically. Now we are inviting community members as well as private music teachers, public music teachers, music directors and conductors throughout San Diego to please encourage every talented young instrumentalist that they know, to come to NYO and experience the great things that we have to offer.

Currently there are various playing opportunities for musicians ages 5 to 20 years, we have three levels of orchestras, two levels of wind ensembles and a Preparatory Orchestra Program for beginners.

Our mission - We strive to develop and educate great musicians, whether they decide on a career in music or simply enjoy playing music throughout their lives. The integration of a sound methodology combined with strong artistic guidance is key to making this possible.

We use the orchestra and other ensembles as a learning ground to increase performance skills and expand each student's creativity and artistry. Making music in context with other musicians, not just learning to play the notes, is the center of our educational program. Our rehearsals are dynamic with active group and individualized instruction sessions that address specific musical goals.

NYO Staff - Our distinguished teaching staff are musical professionals who have accumulated countless hours of teaching experience and together have instructed thousands of young talented musicians throughout San Diego for the past 20 years.

Family and Friends - The NYO knows the important role that parents play, to support, nurture and participate in a child's musical development. We also know too that music builds community, between students, who can make life-long friends here, among families as they watch their shared goals become realities and celebrate the success of the whole ensemble.
