بدأت " قناة "العربية" عرض البرنامج الوثائقي "على خطى العرب"، التي تتجاوز مقاييس العمل الوثائقي التقليدي لتقدم أول قاموس مرئي لشعراء المعلقات وسيرهم المكتوبة لا بالكلمات، بل بالرمال والجبال والوهاد والغيوم، وكل مفردات الطبيعة التي حفظت آثار إحدى أهم مراحل الشعر العربي حتى اليوم، ليوثقها فريق "العربية" الذي قاده الدكتور عيد اليحيى ويقدمها إلى المشاهدين الذين سيفاجأون بالبساطة الممتنعة التي يقدم بها اليحيى التاريخ والبلاغة، وبالرقعة الهائلة التي تتناثر عليها مواقع هذا التاريخ الشعري على مساحة الجزيرة العربية وتخومها
تتلخص الفكرة وراء البرنامج الوثائقي "على خطى العرب" بإعادة قراءة المعلقات التي تبدو في هذه الأيام عبارة عن مجموعة من الأحاجي والألغاز التي تحتاج إلى خبراء لفك طلاسمها.

يميز هذا العمل الذي سيستمر عرضه نحو ستة أشهر، أن التحضير له لم يمر عبر المراحل التقليدية للأعمال الوثائقية، بل بني على حياة شخص كرّسها لهذه الصحارى والجبال بواحاتها ووديانها ومغاورها وكهوفها، ليتتبع خطى الشعراء والإعلام الذين مرّوا عليها تاركين إنجازاً معرفياً قلَّ مثيله، هذا الشخص هو الدكتور عيد اليحيى، الأكاديمي السعودي، وهو دكتور من نوع مختلف وأكاديمي من نوع آخر.
نيل اليحيى مقدم البرنامج حاصل على الدكتوراه في السياسة الدولية ومع ذلك لم يمنعه من الاستغراق في دراسة الانثروبولوجيا (علم الفوارق الإنسانية، وتنوعها قديماً وحديثاً، مادياً واجتماعياً وثقافياً).
