About TetherGPS Lite

Now supports Android 4.0 and beyond.

TetherGPS Lite allows you to share the GPS on one WiFi enabled Android device with another WiFi enabled Android Device.

TetherGPS can be launched by using the included 1x1 widgets, through intent broadcasts from other apps, or by using the launch buttons in the TetherGPS configuration app.

Example use - Connect your Nook Color and your HTC Evo to the same network, or tether the Nook Color to the HTC Evo with android-wifi-tether. Run TGPS Server on the HTC Evo and TGPS Client on the Nook color. The Nook Color will receive GPS data from the HTC Evo. Applications on the Nook Color such as Google Maps and Google Navigation will then work using the shared GPS data.

-Mock locations on the client device must be enabled. Settings>Applications>Development>Allow mock locations.
-GPS location must be enabled on both devices.
-Use the TGPS Client and TGPS Server widgets to enable the services.

TetherGPS Lite includes the full client and a lite version of the server which will run for 5 minutes at a time. After the time limit is hit the server can simply be restarted via the widget.

If the widgets are not showing up in your widget list, check to make sure the application is installed on the device and not on the SD card.

If your device does not include a way to enable GPS navigation, download one of the freely available GPS toggle widgets from the Android Market.

TetherGPS uses the following intent listeners for activation by Tasker and other apps:
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.START_SERVER
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.STOP_SERVER
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.START_CLIENT
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.STOP_CLIENT

If TetherGPS does not show up in the market on your Nook or other tablet device, you can download the lite version with a fully featured client from our website, http://www.comptonsoft.com

I've been looking all over for a bluetooth GPS reciever to use with my Viewsonic gTablet. This app allows me to use my EVO 4g as a GPS server and it works flawlessly! I put the paid version on the phone and the lite version on the tablet. Excellent work.

I'm running Nookie Froyo off an SD card in order to keep the stock OS. I've tested this and it doesn't run off the SD card. Without SD support it's useless.

Was force closing at first. After I entered the IP address in the server it started working. Get the IP from your client device after you are tethered. Go to settings and tap on your connection. Make sure GPS is getting a location on server (icon stops blinking) before starting client.

I'm using a ZTE Blade and an unknown WM 8650 tablet (blue LED). If I start the server on the blade without it connected to a wireless network e.g. acting as a hotspot, I get the force close issue. The tablet doesn't have hotspot capability. My solution is to use a third device (Windows phone) as the hotspot, connect both devices to that, start the server on the Blade and the client on the tablet and away we go. Not quite as ridiculous as it sounds as the WP is my main device (with the data contract) and I can leave the other two in the car. I would buy a decent phone / tablet but the ZTE and the tablet were both cast offs so cost me nothing. Seems to work pretty well (GMaps and MM Tracker, pity they didn't explain the limitation.

Galaxy S and G-Tablet - perfect for sharing GPS with G-Tablet. Only quirk on Android 4 is that it won't find proper Broadcast Address for server side - need to enter G-Tab's IP address in manually to get it to work. Works fine using gingerbread phone as server though.

While the networked version seems to work (too short of server time to troubleshoot), while tethered to tablet from a Droid 2, it does not work. The Droid server starts with foxfi running and the client is running on tablet but they do not connect before time runs out. Nice idea though.

For those having FC problems on ICS based OS. For some reason the app fails to retrieve the IP adress leading to crash. A nice workaround is manually entering the "client" IP address on the "server" "broadcast IP" (switch off "automatic broadcast IP). You can see the "client" IP by entering to you tablet WIFI settings and tapping on the actual connection (the tethered one). I would give this app 5 stars, but I sent the developer an email regarding this issue and he never answered. Too bad!

Q70%

Works well between HTC desire and Kindle with CM7. Took me a while to work out how to use it and I'm a developer! Think it must be very tough for "ordinary" users. Main issue was the need to switch my phone over to wifi hotspot mode. (I know it should have been obvious!)
