About TetherGPS

Now supports Android 4.0 and beyond.

TetherGPS allows you to share the GPS on one WiFi enabled Android device with another WiFi enabled Android Device.

TetherGPS can be launched by using the included 1x1 widgets, through intent broadcasts from other apps, or by using the launch buttons in the TetherGPS configuration app.

Example use - Connect your Nook Color and your HTC Evo to the same network, or tether the Nook Color to the HTC Evo with android-wifi-tether. Run TGPS Server on the HTC Evo and TGPS Client on the Nook color. The Nook Color will receive GPS data from the HTC Evo. Applications on the Nook Color such as Google Maps and Google Navigation will then work using the shared GPS data.

-Mock locations on the client device must be enabled. Settings>Applications>Development>Allow mock locations.
-GPS location must be enabled on both devices.
-Use the TGPS Client and TGPS Server widgets to enable the services.

If the widgets are not showing up in your widget list, check to make sure the application is installed on the device and not on the SD card.

If your device does not include a way to enable GPS navigation, download one of the freely available GPS toggle widgets from the Android Market.

TetherGPS uses the following intent listeners for activation by Tasker and other apps:
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.START_SERVER
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.STOP_SERVER
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.START_CLIENT
com.comptonsoft.TGPS.STOP_CLIENT

If TetherGPS does not show up in the market on your Nook or other tablet device, you can download the lite version with a fully featured client from our website, http://www.comptonsoft.com

This app is great my project car doesn't have a speedometer so thanks to this app in conjunction with torque pro (also great) I can now use my Kindle fire as a speedo! Also I had an issue with compatibility after an update and after a late night email the Dev sent me the previous version and I'm up and running again.

As a paid app the customer should at least get a product that works. Been using this since nook color days

Loved it, I had to test a number of mobile apps I am writing on non-gps enabled tablets and this app was the solution; it saved me hundreds by allowing me to use a generic $49 tablet for my client and for testing, works fine on a Samsung Galaxy s4 and a generic 9.9" Android 4.4 tablet. Well worth the price.

It works but immediately stop as a server. I use asus zenfone 6 and my client huawei y5. Please fix it

Crashes all the time on 4.4 (tablet, client) and 5.0 (SGS5, server) - on each network change and without specific reason. Some previous version was more stable (i purchased it in mid-2014). Have to look for other solution.

Its fine on the nook, the problam is with my phone. Once the widget it activated the phone crashes for about 20 secs. Test before uou buy. Hoping for an update as this was a sweet setup in my car.

Server crashes over and over on my GSII (ICS) then stays resident until reboot as an unkillable task. Refund sought! Works on my T201 but you can't make a sandwhich with one piece of bread.

Many problems. Repeated force closes. Will connect for short period, then force closes. Using google maps on nook, w additional problems there. Phone is casio 771. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times now. Im only out 6 bucks, but spent way too much time. Looked great on youtube, but this is a hobby, not a solution.

I've emailed the dev 3 different times asking for help with an issue where the client device receives the GPS signal for 30 seconds then loses it for 30 seconds repeatedly and I never got a response. If I could issue a zero star review I would.

Updated to 4.0 and get Unfortunately, TetherGPS has Stopped . I Think its the application and not the ROM I'm using please update. other than that it was perfect with Gingerbread well worth the 3$ i paid for it. So if you plan on buying this for ICS test it first before you make a purchase

UPDATE: The update is that there hasn't been an update to address possible Android 4.0 issues. The client simply won't run on my TF201 after the 4.0 update and I've been unable to get a response from the Dev. I paid for the product and I feel I should get a reply, even if just to let me know they're working on it.

You have to find out how to allow mock locations on the Fire(thank you Google :D). I use wifi tethering from my Evo 4G to use maps anyway. Thanks!

With version 1.2.0 the nook tablet is not a compatible device. Works fine with older version so don't update your phone if you are using a nook tablet

The interface is nice and simple. The widget ON/OFF is a very nice idea. The app used to be buggy, but has since improved upon my recent testing. In the limited in-house testing, switching the server into and out of the lock-screen. The client remains stable. I've only seen one related crash on the server end which is a big improvement from before where it crashes ALL.THE.TIME It looks to be a decent solution and will redo the review upon further testing.

Looks like the developer fixed the force close problem on the s3 modded ROM that I'm using. Thanks! But the ip has to be manually input. And it is the client ip that has to be put into a box labeled "server broadcast address" which is terribly confusing, misleading, completely undocumented, and does not work out of the box. Tip: look for the ip assigned the client in your tethering software, under "access control"

I was given a cheap Android tablet and was saddened by the lack of GPS. Then I found this app. I can now use my tablet for navigation on a screen that's easily readable. It works on both my home network and my hotspot. Thanks!

Crashes way too often on my Gingerbread device to be a reliable GPS replacement, especially if you're on the road using navigaion. It's quite a few taps to get it back to work. Switched to GPS tether client+ and SERVER+ that worked for me.
