Comic Chameleon - Webcomics for Android
The app works very well, and the panel-by-panel navigation is superb. I'm glad that you're supporting the artists. That said, it's missing a few key features. The biggest deal breaker for me is not remembering the last page you visited. I don't want to have to go though the archives every time I want to get back to where I left off. That option would be awesome, otherwise I just can't use it for comics I'm not all caught up in yet.
I've had the app for a few years now. I have about 4 comics that read regularly. But I have not noticed any new comics added. In looking at the line up, I think there are same number of comics offered as when I first downloaded the app. And there is no real push to have you check out new comics. They are just there. Other apps will showcase the other options or recommend some to you. Not this one. So, I initially gave the app 3 stars, but I have to downgrade it to stars for failing to improve over time.
It's a great app on the surface, and I love that it will zoom in on each panel... But my phone couldn't load 80% of the pages I tried to view. Maybe the problem is on my end, but maybe not.
Wish it had a bookmark function, also minimizing always takes me back to the most current comic. It doesn't hold your place. A little annoying, but still worth keeping.
Seems to need some work. It's showing Erin Dies Alone as not having been updated since 2015, which is clearly not the case.
The reader is fantastic, but desperately needs either bookmarks for specific pages or maybe just memory of the last one you read. Sometimes you want to binge read an entire series but it keeps taking you to most recent when you open the app and you have to remember which year/day you were up to.
It is very easy to read a comic with the app, and the single-frame feature works great. But few basic things are missing for me - a search option on the comics list, a way to save favorite strips and an option to add a comic to my favorites without going back to the main list, maybe from the archive page
Android has been in dire need of an app like this, and the devs have put out a good framework to build on. As it is, it's easiest to use to keep up with comics you're already reading than it is to dig into new ones--it doesn't save my place as I scroll through the archives, but reverts to the most recent page upon opening the comic. I have a few other issues, but this is the most pressing to me. This is a good app that can only really get better.
I think I'm in love with this panel-by-panel navigation mechanism. It really makes comics come alive and dynamic. I would totally pay for an ad-free experience, though. Your analytics tell you it doesn't work on iOS, so why does it make sense on Android? Oh, and more frequent app updates would be nice.
This is an overall good app. The ads can get annoying, but they are necessary. An excellent selection of webcomics, although they could use more. But my main problem with this app is the running out of memory errors that keep popping up. In order to fix this error I suggest adding the permission to write to external SD card if possible.
Great concept, nice to have all my favorites together in one place. Biggest problem so far: Erin Dies Alone is fifty strips behind. EDIT: carbon dating is missing a couple strips in odd places EDIT2: Actually, a lot of comics are missing strips in weird places
The app itself has a great design, and the favorite system is hecka useful. Two things it lacks: keeping up where you left off, rather than the latest comic, and for some reason it won't follow certain comics updates.
Love everything about this! Well the ads do get annoying, I'm glad to hear that in a future update they will give you the option to purchase the app to remove them. Clicking to get to the next panel really works well.
What are the chances of say, pulling in the top 200 or so of the top web comics? There's quite a few well-known authors left out of this app.
A lack of this app on Android was one of my greatest disappointments switching from apple, so I'm stoked it's finally available. It's not perfect but it is a hugely convenient way to keep up with and discover new webcomics.
Crashes very often, after looking at a few comics. At first, it was really rare, but it became more frequent. Now, I uninstalled and reinstalled, and I can't even get all my subscriptions back before it crashes on me again. And, before that, it would always run out of memory, which makes no sense. Just cache out images and stuff when you need to, and delete them entirely and reacquire from the website if necessary. Before, it was usable. Now it isn't.
Difficult to find the comics you're looking for, difficult to browse historical entries. The back button consistently does the opposite of what you are expecting. :-( But the panel by panel view is really nice!
The pane by pane navigation is awesome! And I am fine with the ads too, since this app is one place stop for my web comic cravings. Would pay/ give 5 stars if the following features are added: 1. Bookmarking favorite comics. 2. Continue from where I left instead of new. 3. Downloading/ sharing comic as image instead of link. 4. Feedback/ request for new web comics option from within the app. Would also like if the following web comics were added: Lunar Baboon, Fowl Language, Sarah's Scribbles etc.
Well it's reliable system and I've been able to find all the web comics that I used to have to search on the internet its up to date and it gives a lot of artists a chance for people to see what they have. One little constructive criticism here maybe if you added a search menu so you can see if a comic that you like is in the app maybe that'd be a good idea?
Needs a customer service/feedback button in the app. 2 needs better loading for comics, maybe a button to load a year of a certain comic. Better search options by type etc. right now you just scroll down and good luck. Other than that a good app. Frustrating the bad loading though.
It's what I've been waiting for! It saves my progress, holds my favorites and it's very swipe friendly. It needs to be restarted every now and then, also it needs more titles to be added on otherwise it's a gem
Just tried it out and like it so far. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I could not find a bookmark feature to resume reading a comic from where I left off in an archive when I am done reading all the weekly/daily updates. No big deal but it would make this app perfect.
Overall, it's OK. It does what it says, but could use some significant improvement in certain areas. Performance is sub-par, there's no way to have it cache things without reading them, there's no way to turn off ads (I'd be willing to pay for an ad free version if the other two issues were fixed).
The good: nice strip navigation, good strip selection. The bad: features are extremely minimal, there's no ad free option (I would be happy to pay a subscription), no good ways to go through an archive from the beginning. I'm knocking off an additional star because if I come back to it after a while, every time I open a favorited comic with a few updates (~5), it crashes (and forgets what my most recently read strip was). Annoying! and it should be easy to reproduce as it happens almost every time!
Interface feels a little rough, but still very good for a first release. Feature set feels very spartan: Feels more like a (very slick) comic *discovery* app rather than a useful tool for catching up or tracking multiple comics. Hope to see more features in the future!
A simple search option would fix any problems I have with this app. That, and the ability to request feeds or add them yourself. Otherwise, perfect.
Great app, especially with the panel browsing. I came here to find the paid version to remove ads, but it doesn't exist?
Ads are intrusive and there's no option to turn them off. I'd happily pay for an ad-free version.
Design is seriously outdated, look into updating the app visually. Also, notifications for new comics you favorited? IAP to turn off ads? Maybe offline sync?
Overall it is a very good app. They had a few issues at launch but they were fixed very quickly
Got an ad saying my phone might be infected and to click on the ad to clean it. I hate this kind of marketing.
I had this app when I used to have an iPhone, and can honestly say it's one of the only apps that I really missed when I switched to android. Now it's finally out for android too and it's just as great as I remember!
Please add "Basic Instructions", "Scandinavia and the World", "Channelate", "Completely serious comics", "Fredo and Pidgin","Loading Artist", "Abstruse Goose", "Pictures in Boxes" and "Space Avalanche". I just need those added to ditch the buggy Comic Rocket app forever.
I loved how the app has most of my favorite webcomics but I wish all of my favorites were on it. I only wish if you could read offline after you may have read up to your current read. I found the app when discovering webcomics and I love reading every day and the comics I love already uploaded. I also wish that i could press the menu button for a certain comic because whenever i do try i end up moving the scroll bar.
A bookmark would be useful, I'm catching up on a few favourites and trying to find my place again is a pain.
Had an iPhone and missed this app the most when I switched. Really no other webcomic app is as good as this!
False promises for an android port years ago, glad to see it finally made it out of the attic. One suggestion - either make an account page or sync with Google, it would be mildly frustrating to try memorizing where you're at if you have more than one device or get a new/replacement phone.
Very nice for an initial release. Needs some polish, better customization (I'd love to be able to make the comic selection pictures narrower, or even a text list, so more fit on a page and I can more quickly see what has updated), and bookmarks. I've been using it daily regardless. Happy that the ads support the artists.
It's alright. Swiping between comics needs to be way less springy (it shouldn't be necessary to slide your finger over the entire screen to change the comic), and it needs a bookmark/last read strip feature.

Finally a decent webcomic reader that supports multiple comics and is usable, instead of just a web browser with a selection of webcomic bookmarks. The library is still growing, so the selection is somewhat limited still, but some of my personal favorites are on there. This would be worth a buy if it wasn't already free. The biggest plus for me is the working archive support, something that Comica on Windows has, bit doesn't work, unfortunately. If this had a library that was anywhere near as in depth, it would be an instant 5 stars, so hopefully I'll be updating this at some point in the future.
