Torch LED Flashlight for Android
If Torch previously worked on your Nexus S, but stopped worked after upgrading your device to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, you should use this version of Torch (uninstall the previous version first to avoid two versions with the same name).
Features:
Long press hardware search button to start Torch (optional)
No settings
Few permissions
Torch is tested on the Nexus S with Android 4.0.3 and works on the Galaxy Nexus and many other devices.
Get the source code at http://code.google.com/p/torch/
Only things I would ask For is for a hardware button shortcut for the lock screen and maybe a status drawer mod for the menu. (IK it needs root for rhat)
Why does it have to cover the screen when it turns on the LED? It didnt do this before, not good.
Small simple app that does one thing well - as advertised. No excessive permissions needed. Source code is available - thank you. Would like to see the source for the latest update.
No extraneous permissions, no ads, no Morse code or strobe effect, and it's open source. Thanks for your hard work, it works great on the Razr with ICS!
Nice to have flashlight app that doesn't need to know my blood type and social security number like the other ones (Tiny Flashlight *cough*) to simply light up my LED.
Love the fact that this app requires so few permissions to install. The last flashlight app I had wanted to know my location and use the data connection?
Does what it needs to. My only complaint (or suggestion) is that it doesn't set the screen brightness to full. I leave mine on auto so as a torch, it tends to he dull.
No unnecessary permissions, buttons or settings and turns on the flash right away. It would be nice if the flash would not turn off when the screen is locked. 5 stars even without that.
It turns on near instantly when you push the button, instead of delaying to download and display ads, which the others then change their user interface to make it look like theres some reason you have to go through the extra steps. Thank you for the button that just works. I just hope it doesnt get replaced with yet another system of control like Tiny Flashlight used to do nearly the same thing Torch LED Flashlight now does.
Finally one app in the sea of torch apps that doesn't need unnecessary access to your location, phone calls etc. It's SAFE AND NOT A FRAUD!
I do not understand why all the other flashlight apps need to know my contact information and other data just to turn on the led light
This is excellent. The flashlight app I used before took about half a minute just to load. This by contrast is instantaneous- tap the icon and it lights up. No pointless graphic and no ads.
This app just works well. It uses only necessary permissions (have you seen the permissions most other flashlight apps use?? Crazy!), and it starts the flashlight very quickly. This is a big deal on the Galaxy Nexus, where flashlight apps seem to take a while to fire up the LED. Most of the ones that work quickly need to know your Social Security number and mother's maiden name to work. This one does it quickly and with few permissions. Nice work, Colin. :-)
Para descender escaleras cuando no hay luz, para revisar lugares oscuros o para cualquier ocasión que se necesite una linterna está aplicación es perfecta. No tiene molestas publicidades. No tiene funciones innecesarias. Es rápida. Funciona. ¿Qué más se puede pedir?
Tiny and efficient. No stupid things like other flashlight apps and little memory used.
Have this on my nook and detects no flash just use screen. Like the minimal permissions. Installed it on defy +, worked with flash once, but then next time lights up the screen. Now that's all it will use, and every torch I try to install won't work with flash.
I just wanted something simple to turn on the flash on my phone to use as a flashlight. The app only asks for permissions it needs to do its job, unlike most of the others. It's open source and free. No bells and whistles just light. The way it should be, it's a flashlight. 'nough said.
When you turn in on the LEDs come on but it also turns screen white. After that all you can do is turn the app on and off, locks you out of using anything else.
This is a thing that switches on your phone's LED. I don't think it even has settings or a menu. It just switches on the LED and allows you to switch it back off again. The interface is so simple it may even be argued that it doesn't have one. In conclusion: best flashlight app I've seen.
too small in size, ease in use, does not require permission like other applications
The partially transparent overlay as an activation button is a bit odd, but otherwise works exactly as expected on my device.
9-30-13 Great app! Only what you need! Flawless! No ads, no permissions, no bloat, No problems!! Thank You Dev you are BEST!!! Update: Works Great on my new phone too! Still the BEST!!! Thanks!!
This app is great But i would really like it more if it didnt need internet access :/
Great
Doesn't require more permissions than needed, just acts as a simple flashlight.
Just works, /right NOW!/ instead of sitting there waiting for an ad to load before the LED will go on. The long press hardware search button is causing Search to crash, but no big deal. Short press still gets to search just fine, and I can just hit the app icon to start Torch. Thank you for sharing!
Who needs eye candy for an app that requires darkness?? Like the whole screen being the on/off button as in awkward places, finding a tiny spot on the screen is a pain.
Does not light the LED. Only the display gets milky.
I was searching for a flashlight... ONLY a flashlight without giving it all possible accesses to my machine. Thanks so much :)
Have this on my nook and detects no flash just use screen. Like the minimal permissions. Installed it on defy +, worked with flash once, but then next time lights up the screen. Now that's all it will use, and every torch I try to install won't work with flash.
Love this!! Very bright on my S4, wouldn't look for any other!! Use it for a flashlight when looking for things or walking down dark sidewalk to see in front of you and no flash light available!
No ads. Just press button. No strobe. Love it. Thanks heaps!
Very happy with this app. I don't understand why other flashlight/torch apps require so many permissions.
I just needed a piece of code like this. Thank you!!
It does what it's supposed to do without intrusive or risky permissions - however, I am not in love with the UI - right now, you have to touch your screen to turn LED on/off - I would rather to have an option to turn screen off while keeping LED on - however, it works and does so in a 'clean' manner. Good job! I use it with a Galaxy S II Skytocket
Definitively the best torch app available. Super simple and lightweight.
Possibly the least imaginitive GUI I've ever seen, but does the job nonetheless. So far seems to be the only torch app out there that actually works on Android 4. (I'm running a Galaxy Nexus)
Simple functionality and doesn't require loads of permissions.
Like the long press search button to turn it on. Applaud the developer for few permissions. Other flash light apps wants to know my phone id and full internet access!

....not everyone's smart phone has a camera flash. I know hard to believe and what's the point of having a camera with no flash?? Works great on my cheap Straight talk Huawei Ascend Plus... no ads, just some thing to make my screen as bright as possible
