Newton Mail - Email & Calendar for Android
Nice app, does the job but is lacking key features - 1. HTML in the body of the emails. 2. Option to NOT load images by default. Currently images load by default and if spam email is sent and images auto load this sends a message back to the spammer and confirms the email address your using is active and then your spammed with 100s of more spam emails. Updated - Yes spam, I now get over 100 spam emails a day that slip last the spam filters due to this app loading images by default and a accidental tap opening a spam message. 1 star until this is fixed.
You know an app is going downhill when it tells you "service has degraded" and if you want basic core features like push notifications you need to pay a subscription $388 per year. To make things worse I didn't find out until I had missed a few days worth of emails. Been a loyal fan since cloudmagic, sad to see what it has become. I will be uninstalling after submitting this review.
I'm wondering whether this is a college project to see what happens when you do certain things to a successful app. It appears all 3+ reviews are either: 1) leftover from the predecessor CloudMagic (awesome app); 2) app stakeholders; 3) tricked idiots blowing money on features widely available for free. So, don't be fooled- K-9 mail I love (super powerful & completely free open source), BlueMail I haven't tried but looks good, &, of course, there's always Gmail or stock apps.
Stopped notifying me of new emails. I've used Newton for over a year and the past few days I've gotten no email notifications yet when I check, I clearly have new emails. I'm pissed and will be switching to a different app. Not paying your extortion fees. $$$
Very shaky push! You pay money and all accounts suddenly loose push. So bad. Calendar - you can't choose days for recurring events. iOS app does not have landscape mode. Mac app does not support touch bar and you can't even drag attachments to the desktop. Premium? Never. It saves attachments on Mac only to download folder. All Newton apps are half baked, you guys charge 50 bucks a year, yet your app cannot print emails properly. If someone forwards you email, with correspondence below, you can it print his/her message , not the whole correspondence. And if you open "original" message in viewer , you can see the whole correspondence, but can't print it. A joke?
"Mail syncing and search will gradually degrade to an experience that's not recommended." - This is how support now responds to inquiries. Basically if you don't pay their $49/year subscription it's not really useful.
Used to absolutely love this app as CloudMagic... Then it rebranded to Newton and it was good at first, until they mentioned a subscription service. It seemed like it was an optional upgrade for extra features, but they keep taking and taking more features to force people into the ridiculous $50/yr service. It's all or nothing apparently. Just found it this morning that the ability to SYNC your emails is now basically a "premium feature" that I have to pay for, or open/quit/re-open the app. Used this app for a few years now, but looks like it's time to change apps...
Ever since last update my emails here are not coming for some reasons, neither are the notifications. It's really frustrating so I've uninstalled it now and switched to blue mail.
I'm with everyone else. Ruined a good app by getting too greedy. Pricing is outrageous and not nearly worth it when very good free alternatives available. Recent takeaways of previously free features is very poor approach to customers. Oh well - watch these ratings continue to decline rapidly.
Terrible. They've got desperate for big money and now even basic service like push notifications don't work. So I don't get an alert when I get email... Da fuq! I switched to bluemail
Cloudmagic was far and away the best mail app, and it's really sad to see where it wound up. I understand one-time purchase, and maybe even a very small amount monthly for server fees and payroll, but it's ridiculous to give legacy users no better options and charge large fees just to get basic options back.
Nice app I'd just suggest to reduce the pricing a bit more. But otherwise I have no idea why people complain because its almost costs just as much as ordering pizza for the family :P Also please add encrypted mails it will make users less paranoid about privacy (such as me)
It used to be the fastest, but now I am not getting real-time notifications, so speed is irrelevant. Every time I have to open the app for the new emails to load. My sole reason for using this client for almost a year and half was the speed of the emails showing up, but not useful anymore
I need to pay $50/yr just so I can get push notifications? Moved to Alto. They have a nice Material Design and Bundled Notifications are coming soon. Best of all, it's free, and not $50/yr.
Just like everyone else the continued crippling of the software just got it uninstalled. Would have easily paid a one time fee but 50 a year is ridiculous.
Had an issue on Friday where Gmail was logging out accounts, forcing new sign-ins. It was scary, aside didn't know if hacking or something else nefarious was going on. I contacted Newton help, and had an answer within 5 minutes. That sort of "mental health insurance" is worth the subscription price to me. :-)
Was amazing until they starting pushing users to subscribe. Now, by removing push notifications, it's become a dysfunctional app .. a note to the owner of this app, if you need the funds, have a large company's buy your software.
EDIT: Update destroyed the last of the functionality by crippling my work account, won't sync at all now. I persisted through the aggressive monetisation of the app (would have paid a one off fee but not being bullied into hugely overpriced subscription by constant reminders that functionality has been removed) Original 5 star review below for posterity, back when it was just "Cloudmagic", a simple, functional, quality app. Not this mess. New Samsung wouldn't play nice with gmail app due to "unknown sync error". No such problems with this app. Beautiful clean interface, does what it says on the tin. Only thing I'd like to see is ability to set silent notifications that don't interrupt media apps, but otherwise flawless.
The application currently does not allow me to send or receive email. It continuously states something went wrong. The application won't even allow you to contact support or send logs. It was a lot of money to spend for an app that does not function.
Greed. This app was great. Now its disappointing transfer to a paid app. I'll be happy to pay but not this much. Especially when your greed makes you charge notifications system.
I've used the app for just short of 3 years and just wanted to say, congratulations on destroying your userbase. The app is unusable at this point and the price you're asking for, not worth paying.
When I oppen my email it's told me contact you administration coz you're not sync while I was use this app before and I downloaded the another app it's working normally and after you people changed the app to newton it's be a very bad app and it have alot of error BLZ fix it
Finally... Bye bye! Moving to Alto guys. EDIT: Moved to Alto. It was a totally fast and painless experience (not sure why it took me so long to decide). It is just better in any imaginable way. I spent my $50 in parts for a new quadcopter.
Unbelievable to charge 50€ a year just for basic functions ANY email app shouls have. Like push notifications. Uninstalled and won't recommend this app to anyone.
I've used touchdown, Outlook, Google mail, but this one has been better and operates very consistently. I moved all of my accounts to this app. Thanks! Edit: They sold the app and are now demanding a 50 dollar annual subscription to continue using. Disabled almost all features. No push notifications. Why don't you just use a gun?
Cloudmagic was excellent. Newton rip off. Basic push notifications should be included as before. Overpriced for what it is. Do not install this garbage. I could still put up with ads if it was discreet.
Loved this when it was cloud magic, disgusted with the changeover to newton mail (overnight my email app disappeared and a random strange icon appeared with no explanation...thought it was malware to begin with, then got a strange email and notification extorting funds for a facelift version of a free app) but I persevered because I didn't need their premium features. I do however, need my email to sync to my device without manually insisting on my part that I have email. It is not reasonable to refresh my accounts 6 times with no effect to find three days later that I have hundreds of emails from the past week. Looks like I'll be looking for a new email app.
Decent during trial period, but then they want $50 per year for email access. Only works well during trial period after that the app becomes garbage
5 stars for CloudMagic. 1 for Newton . very expensive. Not worth it. I lost important mails. Total disaster. Switching to another mail client ASAP!
Newton Team, there is so much buzz over that Ribbon that stays forever it's like you guys are trying to make us feel Stupid everyday. We know that to get supercharged options we need to pay, there is no need for a reminder. So please remove it. Also $49.99 yearly subscription is crazy never heard of, you are not Steve Jobs. So i suggest as others did, make it $2 a month, or maybe 20$ one time deal. Me and my 3 friends will give you guys you 3 weeks to remove the ribbon otherwise we are switching over to something else. And will make sure that we get here to BS about it. For now 1 STAR Ciao
Was good as Cloud Magic but now is rubbish. No warning was given that push notifications were going to be removed so I missed important emails. Going to uninstal.
Was The Best
Was great when it was CloudMagic, but overnight change to Newton without any communication whatsoever along with demand for $50 annual subscription makes this app a no go. Time to move on.
Update: Downgraded to 1 star because since last update now you don't even get push notifications with the free version (without any warning from the developers, which says a lot about the business). This email client is now useless unless you are willing to pay the $50/yr which I am not, nor will ever be. This was the tipping point for me and I have now given up on this. I have just installed "Blue Mail" and so far it is working great! Has everything I need in an email client for FREE, including multiple accounts, MS Exchange, and yes, push notifications and refresh! Previous review: Downgraded from 5 stars to 2. Used to be very good when called Cloudmagic. Even recommended to friends. I have no use for any of the premium features. Will never pay for this app when there are free alternatives, and the banner asking me to subscribe is seriously annoying me. I hope that this barrage of negative reviews is like "Newton getting hit by an apple on the head" and realize this strategy was an obvious mistake.
Uninstalling this app and switching to AquaMail. 5 dollars for a pro key unlike Newton that wants 50 dollars a year. Smell ya later newton mail.
I've been waiting months for CloudMagic (now Newton) to add snooze to this app but, instead, they exploded with useful features, including snooze. As a business owner this app is worth the price of admission. Great job Rahit.
This app is great and well worth the price. It helped me should a fee email issues I had. I can't wait for the windows app to come out
Cannot read emails. Just in case you cannot figure this out that is not a good thing when Newton is an email app. Please fix.
It's a pity that you didn't at least keep the basic functions free. The fact that you deactivated the push notifications is outrageous!

Edit: Great app run by morons. I started paying for it when it was on special for $20 something, and I have to say I'm happy. It's a great app that works beautifully. I am rather surprised that I came back at all after the way I was treated with the hand over from cloud magic, but the 50% off made it worthwhile. I think this might be used as a case study in how not to manage an app.
