After upgrading to Jelly Bean search button changed its functionality to open Google Now instead of doing search in current application. This application prevents Google Now to pop up every time you hit search button by accident by disabling it. After you install this application just hit search button and select Search Button Override from the list of applications to handle action with Always preference. Now every time you hit search button you will see notification in the title bar instead of Google Now. Long press on the search button will work the same - open a voice search. Search action on lock screen will not open Google Now as well, sadly you cannot override search button without modifying behavior of search action on lock screen.

Doesn't work with XT-912 Rayzr maxx. Should have read other reviews. must be hardware issue. mine is rooted running a custom cynamod Android 4.4. ROM. Unlikely other models are running the same exact setup.

Thanks for releasing this, it has saved me from a lot of frustration. I still long-press by accident when getting my phone out from a pocket, but it's nowhere near as bad as before.

Google Now is the most useless piece of crap for anyone outside the US. Thankfully this disables the 15 secs I had to wait before I could use my phone everytime I hit the search button trying to search in my email or messaging(you know the way the button should work).

I was about ready to stab somebody over this. Accidentally touching a button RIGHT NEXT to the spacebar should not launch history's slowest search app, especially without confirmation. I was ready to pay for an app to turn this nonsense off, and I'm shocked and grateful to see it for free.

I just can't stop myself pressing the Search button, it's an ingrained habit. So the app is saving me lots of trouble. The app does have one flaw: it also disables the Search icon on the lock screen.

Appears to work well for others but no luck for the RAZR MAXX. I was so excited to have come across this app... :-(

It's not perfect but at least it fixes that annoying wait for Google Now to go away whenever search is accidentally pressed, maybe Google will take note and allow Google Now to be turned off.

My phone has a dedicated hardware button on side mapped on google search and I'd like to run my favourite app with that button rather than just suppressing it. That will be also really appreciated!
