Kokua for US National Parks

Kokua is the real-time multilingual app that helps travelers help each other.

Kokua means "help" in the Hawaiian language, and it is the Hawaiian tradition of helping visitors that inspired this app. Travelers can share up-to-the-minute information about these incredible places. Messages are posted directly to a thread that is reserved for one of the US National Parks. This makes it easy to read about a specific park without performing a search or guessing about hash tags. All posts are updated in real time.

Kokua currently supports all 59 great US National Parks!

Every message may include a photo. Additionally, messages may be tagged with the user's current location, or with a location selected from a map.

Share the Knowledge

To help you share your knowledge with fellow travelers, Kokua features a unique question-and-answer system. A user becomes an "Adviser" for any of the US National Parks simply by tapping an icon. Another user can send a message about a park that has been specifically flagged as a question. Any Adviser for that park then receives a notification about the question. When the notification is opened, the Adviser can provide an answer to the question.

Start Conversations about Shared National Park Experiences

It's easy to start a conversation about fellow traveler posts. Just tap the conversation symbol, send your message, and that traveler receives a notification.

A Multilingual Experience

With support for English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese, Kokua lets you share information in your native tongue while still providing access to all other languages. For example, if German is your home language, post messages and questions in German to share your experiences and help fellow travelers from Germany. At the same time, you can read and participate in the Engligh channel. Kokua is perfect for those who speak more than one language.

About the Language Support

When you post messages in a given language, no translation occurs -- you converse with others in your native language.

Most of the fixed text in the app has been translated using Google Translate! We will continue to refine it as the app evolves.
