About Anki Aniki

"Anki Aniki is a useful learning tool for students of the Japanese language who are starting to learn Kanji or know some Kanji already. It is also an excellent way to learn for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test." - ghacks.net

Anki Aniki is your ULTIMATE study buddy for the JLPT! Learn all of the kanji for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test - levels N5 to N1! Learn, memorize, take quizzes, drill yourself with flashcards!

FAQ:
What is Anki Aniki?
Anki Aniki is a tool for learning the kanji that appear in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). It covers all levels from N5 to N1.

What isn’t Anki Aniki?
Anki Aniki is not for learning vocabulary or grammar. It is strictly a tool for learning kanji.

Is Anki Aniki affiliated with AnkiDroid?
No. This app is not in any way affiliated with AnkiDroid/Anki.

How does it work?
Anki Aniki uses a Spaced Repetition System (SRS) to train your brain into memorizing kanji on a long-term level. Each day, you will learn 5 to 20 new kanji which you will be quizzed on. If you answer incorrectly for an item, it will show up sooner on a following quiz. Conversely, if you answer correctly on an item it will be longer before you see it again. The more you answer an item correctly without getting it wrong, the less frequently it will appear - until you have it completely memorized.

What are the prerequisites?
Anki Aniki assumes that you know hiragana. You will be tested on how to read kanji, and romaji is not provided. Realistically, you should not be attempting the JLPT or even learning kanji before you have mastered hiragana, anyway!

How Long Does It Take?
Learning takes time. Learning kanji (there are a lot of them) takes a long time. At minimum, it takes at least one and a half months for Anki Aniki to mark a learned item as memorized. To memorize all of the kanji in Anki Aniki it can take as little as 150 days or as much as 2 years depending on your ability and your ambition. Don’t let the numbers discourage you, though. It’s not a race. The main goal is retention.

I want to be able to take note for every kanji , this briliant app will be more friendly! And if you going to add taking note fuction please add it soon. In Vietnamese, since we also use words come from China, every Kanji has its own specific name in Vietnamese ( ancient Vietnamese had done the work ) If i can take note it would be much faster for me since i can take advantage of the similar between 2 language(mine and Chinese) And also most of japanese learners are Chinese and Vietnamese ,this awesome app will stand out alot ! Please reply to my comment if you have read it

How can it be? Sadly, I have to get my refund. I've used Free Version about a year, how can I leave it, when I just have a chance to do quiz and review once a day.

If I keep using & keep on prime homepage space then a Nihongo kanji app has succeeded with me regardless of colour scheme ! I do WISH the pay version had option not to show a translation or to show in Russian cyrillic, Polish or Vietnamese ! The English distracts my effort to read the Katakana. Put the English is Katakana or font in Background color!! Down to 4 as on hi-rez Lollipop device the kanji info has illegible kanji and no font or font size settng. The info page for ea kanji is blinding white bkg

You were supposed to do a test after the daily review, however I couldn't. I kept repeating the review over and over again and when I tried to do the quiz, it said that I haven't finished the review and that I should. I've been repeating it over and over but I couldn't. Please fix this.

Bought the app a couple days ago and can already tell it will be very helpful for my learning. Got the paid version from the get go to get the in context examples. One thing I'd really love to see is a practice quiz area. I know you can review completed cards in the free play but I'd like to go over a random set of completed cards in the quiz format again and again. I guess this is what the retake test option is trying to provide but I find it a bit lacklustre as it gives you the exact same questions in the same order. Would also suggest the separation of individual onyomi and kunyomi in the tests, otherwise you tend to focus on one reading and skip over the rest. For kanji that combine multiple other kanji, would be cool to see a breakdown of what those are. Don't let my suggestions deter you from buying though, overall it a fantastic app!

It's a great way to experience be kanji and is the equivalent to learning a few extra words a day from a dictionary, but it would be brilliant with audio (which I would even pay extra for.) Hearing a few pronunciations of the kanji really helps with memorization and familiarization of the language, hopefully it's on the table for a future version.

Thank you so much for this! I use it everyday and it really helps. The method is really encouraging and the 20-a-day doesn't seem too overwhelming if you're eager to learn. The quizzing works great and it really lets you know when you've mastered something. I love the vocabulary option and I'm happy with all the readings. The colors and layout are the best and the fonts are so comfortable. Please consider adding or creating a vocabulary addition specifically for quizzing vocabulary, because, the app is perfect, and if I could study vocabulary (compounds and other words) along with kanji in this manner instead of constantly having to click on "more info", I'd so do it! :) I also wish it were a lot easier to find my backup files, maybe have an option on where to save the backup file? And I wish when I miss a day that I still would get that day's kanji instead of just the 20 on the day of. Because, if I miss 2 days, I'd like to be able to study 60 kanji if I had to! But this is just a want. Anki Aniki really is my #1 study buddy. Hopefully I can master all kanji before heading off to Japan for my studies! ALSO: Do you plan on adding more kanji? :) Jouyou kanji would be nice!

Paid for it to support the developer and the extras are worth it! The "more info" which helped me including the "don't confuse it with" section and the free play is incredible. <3

Very well put together and effective learning app. Have used a lot to learn Japanese over four years of studying, but this is one of my favorites. Like anki but specialized, focused, and very pretty. Paid version gives you common vocab and more detailed readings for each. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! If you're serious about learning the paid version is the best (for cheap.) Free is still effective but having common vocab will help you remember much more easily.

I like this app. The quizzes make review more enjoyable than the dryness of flash cards. However, I have certain problems on my droid 4. Upon completing a quiz, the program takes as much as 3 minutes to load my results, often crashing midway. Trying to access results afterwards is the same. Sometimes the app will short circuit and claim I took a quiz I didn't, giving me a zero for the day. For an app I paid for, I am surprised to deal with difficulties like these, but overall it is good.

Need a cloud data saving (Google drive, etc) Email in support section is now clickable but still need to highlight. It will makes clear that you can click on. Would love to see charts and statistics. This is just fantastic. It looks the closest to what all kanji learners need and dream. Notification not always running. Would love an easier way to slide when learning like a direct "got it".

The interface is very zen and easy to navigate. The developer, Drew Harris, responds to all emails quickly. Updates to add new features or fix bugs are published regularly to Google Play Store. Support this app by sending feedback. Support the developer by purchasing the paid version for a nominal cost. Well worth the investment. ハリスさん、どうもありがとうございました! アンキアニキは素晴らしいだよ!

I especially like the Free Play with the learned Kanji list for accelerating retention of learned ones.
