About Physics Toolbox Accelerometer

This accelerometer sensor app measures and displays a graph of G-Force vs. Time (s) and Acceleration (m/s/s) vs. Time (s) in x, y, and/or z dimensions, as well as total magnitude.

Total magnitude of acceleration or G-Force data can be recorded and exported in an e-mail or through Google Drive as a .csv attachment using a comma or a semicolon as a delimiter. Click on settings to plot data against elapsed time or clock time, to change the plot line thickness, or to change data collection rate. A brief tutorial upon start-up gives an overview of how to use the app.

This app can be especially useful for monitoring changes in acceleration in vehicles or airplanes, and to monitor vibrations of any sort. This app can be used in the classroom to hep students quantify activities with Newton's 2nd Law by taking a mobile device with the app on field trips to amusement park rides, roller coasters, or even in elevators for standard "elevator problems." Because G-Force is the ratio of normal force / weight of the object in question, students can the known mass of the object in question to quantitatively draw force diagrams throughout the object's motion.

Permissions Explained:

android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: A csv file is created and modified on the phone's internal memory.

I just bought a Camaro and I want to take it to the local "stunt road" to measure start, stop, and skid-pad forces. Thank you for developing this app.

Works without any problems. Nexus 6P

I thought there might have been a unit error on the accelerometer mm/s not m/s and originally gave (3/5) and contacted the app supplier for help. The reply from the app provider was both rude and aggressive "I'm offended by your bad review""don't contact us again" I've have subsequently reduced my review to (1/5) because of the app suppliers rude emails and contacted Google to complain.

i want to calculate velocity or speed.... can you tell me..and wht are the measurement units used..is it meter and second

S70%
by S####:

Can someone tell me why it shows that you can switch modes in the screen caps, but not in the actual app?

S70%
by S####:

This app does not have a uniform sample rate. The time between sensor readings is not the same every time. The data recorded is useless for doing calculations. I would like to use the data to determine the vibration frequency. The different time intervals between sensor reading will result in inaccurate calculations.

S70%
by S####:

App is ok, but for some reason I'm not able to adjust the time axis. I can adjust the force axis, just not the time axis.

W70%
by W####:

Could you define its resolution ?

S70%
by S####:

Is there a way to override screen settings so the display stays on while recording?

K70%
by K####:

How do I see something that I saved, I need it for class but I don't know how to find it. Please help

X70%
by X####:

Nice & easy to use, just enjoy to have it , Note : add zoom on time ,

K70%
by K####:

Great app for experimentation.

S70%

Best one ever seen

S70%

It would be great if there was greater dynamic range than +-2, but that might just be a limitation of my GS4's accelerometer.

S70%

The last up date fixed the record button problem and the app is fully fuctional on my device. I do not understand how a 4.5 inch screen could be considered small(should be average I think) but whatever. Thank you to the dev for being active and willing to solve the issue.

K70%
by K####:

Worse great without any problems.

K70%
by K####:

Wow. Does exactly what it said it did in an easy-to-use format. If only all apps work this well. No bloat.

Q70%
by Q####:

Exactly what I needed!

N70%

Please finish previous activity by calling finish() while changing acceleration and g force. Multiply the values with a user defined constant to generate nice graph.

N70%
by N####:

You get to see data from each axis and record and export to csv! No unnecessary permissions. Thank you for this!

N70%
by N####:

Great app but needs log charts or viewing in app logs.

D70%
by D####:

Best accelerometer data recorder I have found by far! Looks nice in app, and the data can be recorded to a CSV file!

R70%
by R####:

Great features.

N70%
by N####:

Easy to use. My son and I were able to add graphs of real data to his homework using this app.

T70%
by T####:

Installed on Nexus 5. Works pretty well, but sometimes does slows down the recording interval to multiple seconds between points (might have been my phone), and other times won't let me zoom. Still the best of the accelerometer apps I've tried with a normally quick update interval, and I like the ability to save data.

D70%
by D####:

Nice easy app to use, able to import the data into excel to get some nice plots. Used this to characterise inhaler shakes in pharmaceutical analysis.

If you like this app then try out the Physics Toolbox Suite (by the same developer) to take advantage of all of the sensors on your device! It includes this app and many more all in one package that is still free, still has no ads, and still uses minimal permissions (so it's non-invasive).

D70%
by D####:

This is a great accelerometer with a super simple export function. If you want analyze the data you collect, this is the app for you! The software sometimes slows down but still a solid 5 stars in my book.

D70%
by D####:

Highly recommend checking out the Physics Toolbox Suite by this developer. Loads of outputs packed into one useful app. Good work!

H70%
by H####:

Thanks a lot dude

X70%

Cool app

O70%

Would be extremely useful if only the data could be linked to UTM position data. I would pay for that.

H70%
by H####:

Accelerometer. Would be nice if it included a frequency analyzer.

R70%
by R####:

I'll use this to measure the g forces on my bus journey home from work. I'm sure it's way more at times than people can comfortably endure.

R70%
by R####:

Very well done application. I can't think of many useful applications for it

G70%
