Browser Reader for Chrome for Android
Sorry, for ages I tried get it to work and could not. Also, it has to be said that the copy paste system in Android Chrome that it relies on is incredibly inconvenient for anything other than small blocks of text. I really want to use a text to speech reader on Chrome but if it's only for paragraphs it Hardly seems worth it, compared to the very simple, intuitive speech system on an iPhone. I'm using a Moto G on android 5.1
Some web pages in chrome will not scroll while selecting text. In those cases one would have to select text paragraph by paragraph which is a pain. Once 'select all' is tapped the Android shortcut menu doesn't reappear, so you cannot use the copy shortcut to read aloud. Could we have an option to use a gesture or some other means to read text after tapping 'select all' to read an entire web page? One that would,( as someone pointed ) out skip images also. Otherwise this app is excellent! Thank you
Great app! The only problem I have is this: The first time I installed it, I always had to go through the whole process, from beginning (open app) to end (copy text and wait for reading) "twice", and it would work on the second attempt. The second time I installed it (new device), it always worked fine on the first attempt. This third time I installed it (another new device), I'm back to going through the whole process twice again for it to work. And while I'm at it, I've noticed that in my System Accessibility Settings, the app turns off periodically, without warning. I'll admit it's kind of a pain that after several failed attempts I ultimately have to stop what I'm doing, go back to those settings, turn it back on again, and start the whole process over again from beginning to end. Too time consuming, please fix this. But other than that it's a great app!
So far does not work. The example plays. The browser reader's menu reads. But cannot get a thing out of chrome... Now my clipboard is full from copying text and I've wasted an afternoon.
Doesn't work. It read from the chrome for the first time. But once I closed and re-opened the chrome and then copied the text for reading, it did not work anymore. Tried a lot of times, turned the setting off and on, but nothing worked
This blatantly does not work it works occasionally on a sunny day when the stars align but otherwise it is a broken piece of s***
Followed every step and when highlighted and copied it DOES NOT speak a thing!
Sometimes it won't start and it's hard to stop, shaking usually doesn’t do anything. When it does work, it's awesome!
"It can be a tough app to love, but a valiant effort non the less." Now on to tech support: Dear Developer, please add an *unskippable* step-by-step full screen guide on how to get BR to working properly on first start -- save yourself a serious headache answering tech support comments! There seems to be only one proper procedure to get the thing to actually work and a lot of folks may be absentmindedly skipping some steps or taking them as more of a suggestion than an absolute necessity -- they may have to repeat those steps when BR inevitably goes silent after re-opening the app. The "Text Voice Player" function keeps repeating only the first piece of content it's been used on, even after you copy more text to clipboard -- is that the intended functionality? HW/OS: Moto G4 / 6.0.1 stock
Finally I can have my websites read to me, it sometimes doesn't work with certain sites, but this is rare and must be a problem with the site.
Was looking for a way to read textbooks from Chegg. Doesn't work. Got a refund.
The worst interface I've ever seen in any app.
program doesn't work. ui is also horrible
Hey dev, please fix it. The app isn't reading anything.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Best text to speech engine so far.
I enable the app i long press and copy the text I touched the copy icon then I get a pop up telling me to shake the device to stop it from talking but it never started talking
At first the graphical user interface might look a bit displeasing, but if you give it one minute of attention you'll figure it out. App works great, very useful.
Could not get to function properly at all. When I finally "copied the text" into an audio file the program crashed completely
Just flat out would not read aloud any selected text. Claimed it was, shaking device made app claim it stopped. App read aloud the "troubleshooting" list. Watched the video, several times, updated Google TTS engine... wasted enough time. Avoid with this version of Android software (4.4.2). RESPONSE TO AUTHOR - Of course I checked that, otherwise would the app have read the "troubleshooting" page aloud? I tried everything I could to get the app to work, one star review remains, sorry.
Does what it says on the tin, just make sure you have activated it in accessibility and have downloaded the TTS voice package.
Incomprehensible interface, and just didn't work. I tried everything. There should be a floating toolbar or something??
I use this to read new articles while working. Have used this back when it was Chrome Reader.
I'm not sure I cannot make it work the only thing it does is send me to the store to pay for something
I selected the text on various pages and I was only able to get it to read one time spite repeated attempts to get it to read the highlighted text I copied.. This App Blows
Didn't work. Copied text, nothing happened.
App is not intuitive at all, the transparent overlay menu is hard to read and the layout is cramped.
I being using this app. for a while, it's not perfect but it does work. I've read some of the reviews and find the comments a bit harsh and one sided. You need to spend time working with it, read the instructions people! when you copy a text there is lag while it's being converted to voice, depending on how much text you have copied. The start up lags a bit as well. Overall I find this a helpfull tool.
It's not as easy as 1-2-3. I couldn't even get the stupid thing to actually start reading. The developer seriously needs to make a how to video or some simple steps showing you how to make the dumb app work
I've enabled Google reader in Accessibility but still won't work. Also waited for a long time to account for lag. Really needed such an app
Once set up it works very well.
Works fine. Selection could be made more easier.
Horrible UI and cumbersome to use, sorry. It does work though.
If you don't like this app it's because you haven't figured out how to use it yet but it is the bomb!!! love everything about it
I'm very impressed
Doesn't work if text is too large. For example, an entire wikipedia article. EDIT: doesn't work for a half of all the content. Android Reader mode takes eternity to convert text to voice (5 seconds or so per 3 words - seriously?). Reduced from 3 to 1 and uninstalled. EDIT2: the bug has nothing to do with the max clipboard size: just installed the Talk app, copy-pasted the entire article this reader was unable to read. Worked like a charm.
Quit working on day three of use. No sound
If it takes a while to come up its because your device sucks
What a waste of time. Doesn't work at all!
Practicing English with chrome reader ;)
