The Chariot app works great for everything...except for the raison d'etre of Chariot: booking a ride! I have to switch to the mobile browser to do that. It has been like this for months, and complaints to support falls on deaf ears. Love the service otherwise. I would give this app zero stars if it were possible. I would like to say that the service itself and the drivers are fantastic. The 1 star is a reflection on the management (now Ford) as well as the software engineers who program the Android app and the website. Here is some updates as of May 1st, 2017: App: Still cannot book a ride through the app. What's the point? I can do everything else, such as buy tickets, see my ride confirmation info after I book it (with the website; more on this after), and do just about everything except for the one thing this app is supposed to let you do: book a Chariot van. Talk about a Titantic fail. I'm not sure how they plan to get more people to use this service when their native app works about as good as a door with no door nob. Web site: I have to pretty much use this to book any Chariot vans, but here are a few things that totally suck about the web app (and I'm out of space!)

This app is awful. It does not function correctly. I couldn't even save an address or set my pickup or drop off location. Terrible

Promo code austin04 got me 2 weeks of free rides. I had to go into the profile tab and change the default city to Austin because it was set for SF. In the payments tab I tried to enter the promo code but the app said I needed to verify my phone number. I replied back to the text message they sent me and then went back into the payment tab and entered the promo code austin04 to activate my free rides. If you don't get a text message to verify phone number make sure you have one on the profile tab. I like this app because I can see all of the Chariot routes and where the available vans are in real time. It is funny when you are tracking one nearby and you see it turn the corner just like on the app!

Chariot was kind enough to give us a ride from Squaw Valley to the Tahoe Transit Center when the resort provided buses failed to show up. Buses were comfortable and even fit all of our gear!

I like the idea. Very poor implementation. Was not wise to encourage the use of this app before you have an impressive product. Wasted opportunity.

Every time I try to use the app, inputting my start and end, it crashes

While the frequent app crashes are annoying, the wildly inaccurate pick up ETAs effectively make my commute 50-100% longer. Vans are regularly 15-20 minutes behind the ETA I was given when I booked the ride.

They just released a huge update. None of the new features work and a bunch of stuff that used to work is broken. Invest in a QA team. You're headquartered in San Francisco. There are plenty of people here that can build you better software than this.

The Android version of this app always lags behind the iOS version and just seems much rougher. Tracking bubbles aren't as smooth, no advance bookings yet and GPS tracking doesn't update.

R70%
by R####:

After you book a chariot, you have to force quit and reopen the app in order to see your boarding pass. If you background the app and then reopen, the location of your chariot won't update. The estimated time will but that is so unreliable that you also need to force quit the app and reopen. Come on guys.

Does anyone at Chariot even use Android? The most recent update has a variety of bugs like: - Can't tap on a stop to book a ride (thought that was a feature) - ALL the routes appear every time I open it without an active route - Chariot location doesn't update if I go to another app & return. I have to close it out and re-open - Boarding pass doesn't appear right after booking. I have to close it out and re-open - Map centers on SF every time I re-open, even if I'm not in SF & neither is my chariot. At least I can book a ride, though. Looking forward to an update that brings this somewhat on par with iOS. Pixel, Android 7.1.1 Build NMF260

They updated the app, now it's almost unusable. Features that once worked are now broken- you have no idea how far a van is or when it'll arrive. Often stand outside for up to twenty minutes waiting.

Works fine for me in SF. Running Android 5.1. Generally a good service and waaaay better than Muni. Don't know about all those on Android who can't book / can't access etc. but I've never had those issues. Minus 1 star for being a second class citizen to iOS in that the iOS app always gets the new features (advanced booking, etc) first.

I used this service religiously with an iPhone and had no problems, but you can't check in on Android, despite the numerous complaints in the play store. What's the point of having an app if an entire ecosystem (or at least the newer versions) can't actually use your service?

R70%
by R####:

I absolutely love Chariot. It makes my commute 10x simpler and more relaxed than it would be without it. My only complaint is that a ride has never once been on time. Generally the delay is only a few minutes, but it's literally every ride.

Driver then tells me my trip was erased. Uh thanks for letting me know 40 mins later and I am now ubering for 30 mins to get to my destination. Terrible

If you register with the service using your Google Account, you can't log in to the app at all. While this is hilarious product management, it's made even worse by the fact that my company specifically asked us to set it up like this.

Hello Chariot. This was my last attempt at using Chariot. The driver was supposed to come at 834 but came at 854. I am now used to being so late that I didn't mind. But the driver didnt even have a seat for me and it has been the most painful app experience of my life.

The app crashes all the time. The display of rises in the area is unhelpful and a lot of things you press don't work.

Looks like it's only available in and around downtown right now. If you live in north or south Austin you're out of luck. Hopefully they'll expand soon and I'll be able to use it.

I really like Chariot's service, but the app has generally gotten worse over time, which is sad. The new trip planner was so promising but has major issues. Please provide the ability to save locations (like Home, Office, etc). Otherwise you have to input the From and To address every single time you reopen the app. Please bring back the Route view and ability to tap on a stop and see upcoming vans. The map view is overwhelming -- almost nobody needs to see all the routes at once.

C70%
by C####:

The app does not honor the great service chariot drivers provide each day. Why show all routes in a map? I just care about few lines, perhaps just one. All its a bit to overwhelming. Also bring back the ability to check in a particular stop along the map! I am sometimes on the go and would prefer to pick a particular stop vs scrolling through a list of options that don't make sense for me

N70%
by N####:

Van service is generally great, points for overcoming huge logistical challenges and making my commute across SF markedly more pleasant. However, the experience with the Android app is bad, was improving, but has taken a big step backwards with the latest version in my opinion. From little UX things like being able to swipe out the side menu but not swipe it back, to major feature loss such as how it now seems I have to type in my location and destination on every use. Still v little consistency in design.

R70%
by R####:

I typically like Chariot as an alternative to MUNI when leaving my office in the financial district to the marina. However recently the app has reverted to an earlier version and makes it unusable as I can no longer check into a chariot.

N70%
by N####:

Makes the service useless.

I can seem to get this to work.
