Even when dmm support responded that there is a lot of development going on, still no new features or imprivements, only minor fixes. So I definitely suggest to use another application, as they improved over the time a lot while iKnow stood still.

Extremely useful app. The way the lessons and quizzes are arranged really help me to learn. I would definitely recommend to anyone I know that has trouble learning on any other system.

Really does a nice job of providing you refined tools for studying and expanding your vocabulary, and the best part is you can set your own pace with how much you want to go over at once, and different ways of doing so! As long as you are responsible with your reviews, the application does the rest.

More than one year after using this, my Japanese vocabulary has improved a lot. Got the lifetime plan long ago and never regretted it :)!

You might think you could get the same experience using flash cards available for free on the net (some of them using content stolen from this app) but really you are better off with this app.

After nearly three years of using this service, I would have given it a higher score. However, after opting to upgrade to the lifetime plan, I found that it was frustratingly inconvenient to do so. There is no option via the app store to do so, and also when going to the settings within my app to renew I am only giving the option of a one year plan. The online site only seems to accept payments in the form of paypal which i do not understand. Feeling like a ball was really dropped somewhere. As a result I havent been able to renew.

All around the best pre-built Japanese deck I've come across. I bought this to have something to do on the bug without fiddling around with making my own flashcard deck. Pros: 1. Everything has good audio 2. One or more sentences for every vocab item 3. Pictures are a nice plus 4. Owl themed Cons: 1. Lifetime plan is a little expensive 2. It' seems there's no way to bring up stroke order in the app. I found myself constantly tabbing to another app to practice stroke order. 3. At least for me, on Android with the English locale the Japanese Kanji were drawn "Chinese style", for example this was visible in 難 and 画. Apart from the cost, most of the cons aren't as big a deal on the PC version, so the app makes a good supplement. The PC version also does a good job of showing your progress.

Get this app and buy a membership if you are serious about learning Japanese. Seriously. So far I LOVE this app. I started learning with two other apps that I paid less money for, and while they were helpful, this is definitely way better and worth the money. I'm learning vocab and kanji, which I love, at the same time and no other app that I've used has done that. It also seems to be teaching Japanese that people actually use, not only super formal speak. The only reason I'm not giving a five star rating is because I'd like the choice to look at the vocab I've learned so far and see my progress, maybe even review difficult words on their own (Memrise has something like this). But maybe I'm just not sure how to do this. Love this app, again, invest in this if you're serious about learning Japanese. Good job and thanks devs!

Got Lifetime Membership. I took Japanese in school. Formal training is best but this is good for self-study. I used it for a while before my most recent trip to Japan. It did help, but there are some areas for improvement: 1) This is not a one stop shop for learning Japanese. This program is supplemental while you have to study grammar and kanji separately. 2) Speaking of kanji, I would like the mobile app to offer kanji stroke order like the PC version, and the stroke direction would help too. I would also like stroke order to be offered for EVERY word. 3) There should be more variety in the sentence patterns as well as longer sentences. So often the sentences are your standard "SOV" sentence, even into the 6000s. 4) Adding conversation dialogue would be helpful as well instead of just random phrases. 5) This app doesn't distinctly offer 6,000 words. Some words just have a different form (ie: 数 vs. 数える) 6) I want a way to save favorite sentences as a quick reference if I know it's something I might use in the future. I have found myself vaguely thinking of a phrase and can't find it easily when I need it 7) A search feature to find words in either language would be *AMAZING*

The app overall is great, the built in decks are excellent and cover a really wide vocabulary with plenty of examples. Creating custom decks is another story though, voice synthesizer is a little clumsy, reads kanji in a weird way and when I write it in hiragana to get the correct pronunciation it makes a lot of weird pauses and mispronounces the long vowel sounds. So I find myself always uploading audio from a better synthesizer. But it is a very good app nonetheless.

Recent update now forces you to learn the kanji rather than give you the option. Annoying.

I don't think there's a better resource for our there for learning Japanese vocabulary. I've used Anki in the past, but flashcards can get soul crushing after a while. This app lets you take vocab in bits and pieces, and if you're doing a longer session you can mix it up by doing different lesson types. Great for people with like me who have a short attention span but plenty of motivation!

Editing my 1 year old review, and this app still kicks ass! I'm quickly on my way to mastering the core 2k. The well-being designed UI combined with simple example sentences and audio are what makes this app well worth the money.

Hi, Great app and site. I'm having problems with the app crashing when I use Sentence Trainer. It happened when I said I didn't know a sentence, and also when I finished a set of 10 sentences. I'm using Samsung Galaxy 8. Hope that helps!

The app on computer is fine but on the phone is the worse!Works fine on the trial 8 sessions but I sign up for the yearly and it never load. It keep saying "loading" but never really load so I can only used it on laptop which is pointless cos I use my phone more! I would like to unsubscribe if I can waste of my money!

This app helped me greatly. It's worth the price. However, it occasionally freezes up and lags quite a bit. I hope the developers can do something about it.

I would recommend this app to anyone. I can read a lot more kanji, the things I have to say to my Japanese friends sound more natural rather than textbook, and as long as you use it every day (and I do mean every day, you absolutely cannot slack off if you want to get the most from your studies), you can become fluent in a year and a half.

I have been using this app for a while and I can say I am really enjoying it. Very user friendly, it does a good job of helping you memorise the Japanese characters by noticing with which characters you are having a hard time. And it has a nice subtle way of encouraging you to keep up with your studies. You should definitely try it out.
