(Sample) Size Matters for Android
By collecting a heaping amount of data (and increasing the size of our samples), we hope to unravel nuances in behavioral variations; we hope to detect the impact of minor differences that simply wouldn’t appear in smaller samples. The pursuit of this app is to collect an abundance of data from an abundance of locations all over the world, shining light on behavioral similarities and differences, from Antarctica to Zimbabwe. To do this, we need your help! Join our team of smartphone scientists and take on small tasks that will be “pushed” to you through the app.
On some occasions, you’ll be asked to give your opinion about various topics; you may be asked to predict the outcome of an experiment or to record your thoughts on anything from wealth distribution to peer influence. On other occasions, you’ll be sent out into the world to collect data; you may be asked to interact with a stranger or observe a scene and record certain details. Prepare to be surprised and delighted by the exciting research you will be a part of.
Brought to you by Dan Ariely and the Center for Advanced Hindsight, “(Sample) Size Matters” asks anyone with a smartphone or iPad to participate in a movement that transcends oceans and cultural barriers, gaining access to a wider range of information than ever before. Download the app now, and get started on your first mission!
How it Works:
- create an account
- complete your first mission by following the instructions in the app
- sit back and wait for the next mission to be pushed to you, and make sure to complete it before time runs out!
- keep track of your missions and your points earned for each experiment.
Unfortunatelyy I'm too young to help
Does not work at all the way it should. It says I have done things I haven't and it prompts me to do surveys I already have. I think it was launched before it was ready. Unfortunate and unmotivating. Too bad.
It didn't work. No text, just buttons inside.
Calendar to select birthday isn't working on Android Marshmallow. So can't proceed to anything else.
None of the selections in the initial demographics survey would save. They'd just revert back to "please select" and then I'd be prompted to fill them out when I hit submit.
Great idea to collect data from people all over the world. It'll be fantastic! Good luck Prof.Dan Ariely & team Greetings from Brasil!
But this app shows only the first three missions. Is there anything else?
Please release your other apps on Android, I want to try Procrastinator - it looks really good.
I think this innovative app will lead to great researches! Please share with us the data, afterwards, it's part of the fun of it.
Which sucks because I was looking forward to the app.
Oh oh, a tricky first survey. Wonder if that sets the tone for the app?
Crashes when I try to complete the birthday field on set up
App crashes when trying to put in my birthday or if I skip this step, when hitting submit. Nexus 5 device
App works OK. Love the idea that's driving it.
When I try to fill in the demographics, my selections don't "stick". E.g. I pick Male, try to select "Caucasion" from the Race pick list, try to pick "United States" from the County pick list, but none of the selections are being made. Motorola Droid Razr Maxx , Android 4.1.2, Verizon, build number 9.8.20-72_VZW-16-5.
Let's see how it works
Expecting it to be a great fun........
Third will rate again as it progresses. So far it works.
Great app (and a great idea to do science this way), but when I was making a preliminary test I could not enter any dot or comma (only numbers could be entered ) although at least one answer needed it. I am using samsung galaxy s4.

Opened the app, it asked for my email, then gave me "Your survey session has expired and you cannot continue taking the survey." No further options. No emails. Oh well?
