SPIE Geometrical Optics for Android
This is a great app, I have been waiting for it to come to the Android. I have an issue with some of the equations though. I tried the 2 on the thick and thin lens page and cannot enter negative numbers into the focal lengths or optical powers. Am I missing something?
Just in time! This is a great app, I have been waiting for it to come to the Android. I have an issue with some of the equations though. I tried the 2 on the thick and thin lens page and cannot enter negative numbers into the focal lengths or optical powers. Am I missing something?
Incredible reference! This app allows me to carry around the SPIE optics field guide on my phone at a great price. It contains all the equations and figures I used to run to Wikipedia for and in a format that's much easier to search, much clearer to someone with an optics background, and without the chance that some prankster inserted a minus sign somewhere to trip me up! The previous reviewer is right -- it doesn't seem to allow negative signs in any of the fields for radius of curvature, so the built-in solvers are of limited utility. That said, this is a great price for such a useful optics reference, and if the bug is fixed, it'll just be icing on the cake for me. Here's hoping SPIE sees enough interest to put out more of its field guides for smartphones (or even for sale as ebooks so I don't have to worry about losing them)!
