CBS All Access for Android
This app plays on demand content but whenever I try to play Live TV... the frustration begins. I usually get the message that says, "We could not determine your location. Please enable your system to send us your location." Locations permissions are granted to this app everywhere I could find. So I'm forced to use the app via an Amazon FireStick. For a paid subscription service, CBS needs to do much better or join one of the other services (PlayStation Vue, Sling, etc.).
Very disappointed in this app. Gave it a try to watch the The Good Fight and was surprised by the amount of "limited" commercials involved. Not going to pay $6 a month and still have to deal with commercials. Even with a new Star Trek tv show coming out in a few months on All Access, I will live without it. Confusing interface and plenty of prompts to update to commercial free was a turn off.
In "Glengarry Glen Ross", Blake says "They're sitting out there waiting to give you their money. Are you gonna take it?" CBS is not going to take it. I tried to upgrade to commercial free and every device said go to the original device, which is my android TV. My android TV gave me error 0, which means no error. Success. So I called the toll free number on the screen with this "error" and they didn't have a clue what to do. I held for an hour while the tech told me different menu choices (which without exception didn't exist). She told me I'd be transferred to Google Play and I said no thank you. Why would google troubleshoot this app on their behalf? It plays video fine. Looks ok. Too many ads, up to 5 by 40 minutes into the show. Sometimes 5 ads, then <10 seconds of show (looking at you Colbert) then 5 more ads. I canceled my subscription.
Have to agree with the other 1 star reviews. Signed up last evening on my android TV. Watched one show loaded with commercials. It hung near the end on commercial but finally loaded so we could finish that single show. Canceled this morning. Why would you want to PAY for a streaming service that's crammed with commercials?? No thanks. I'll DVR the shows and use the skip button liberally! If I'm going to pay to view I expect much fewer commercials!
Absolute rubbish. The CBS app for my phone and tablet allows me to watch shows for free with ads, however the Android TV version requires a subscription for everything.
NFL football blacked out on CBS local channel feed. Deal breaker. No such blackout on Sling TV local Fox and NBC feeds.
Terrible navigation!
what a p.o.s. this is. everytime i try and use it, it thinks that i dont have a subcription, so im like ok ill subscribe again, guess what my device knows i already do have a subscription so it freaks out and closing the app because the app is obviously retarded as is the developer who sat on the toilet and created it. for the love god fix this.
Quite possibly one of the worst subscription apps ever made. I've been using this on iOS and Android. Shocked with the level of ads and that this is so poorly made that it is the only streaming app I have that lags constantly. I bought a Netgear Blackhawk to eliminate all potential issues, all my equipment runs better since yet this horrible app still lags. Except for ads of course. Pay for an app and the only thing that works consistently is ads. Awesome. Am cancelling at the end of my shows season and hopefully can find a different solution in the future.
It said it was free to try, but charged me anyway, I cancelled within 15 minutes and I still didn't get a refund. Plus, the one thing I wanted it for, anyways, streaming NFL it said was blocked from streaming, but it would only tell you that after it charged you for the subscription. TOTAL SCAM!!
CBS all Access is SLIMY! I already pay for TV!
The ratings don't lie. Horrible app. Better off using an antenna to capture over the air broadcasts. Major issue was that shows would not play properly after the obligatory commercials. Not a single issue EVER with any of the commercials playing, but as soon as the commercial ended and the actual show was to begin, there would be no audio, or the picture would fast forward while the audio played normally. Pausing would sometimes sync things back up, but if you tried to rewind, the episode would start all over. Then you could only fast forward a few seconds at a time to get back to where you where. It's as if the app is rigged to force you to purchase the commercial free access. Not having it. Next issue is the blacking out of some sports events. Even though the game can be seen over the air, CBS does not have the rights to stream NFL games. NFL apparently has their own app for that. Then there was the hunt to cancel the service. Called as the website says only to be told I have to go thru Google+ since that's how I signed up. Why not list that on your website to prevent time being wasted!
Worked pretty well to stay up to speed on latest season of Survivor. Would have kept the app if there were other CBS shows we liked.
Why would I pay to watch commercials? The commercial free option is just too much for few CBS shows that I watch. No thanks.
Holy Smokes! This sure is a dumpster fire of an app! I checked this out so I could watch Colbert.... with commercials?? NO WAY. To ad insult to injury, the program couldn't even recover from the 1st commercial break and when I backed out, it restarted me from the very beginning. If you seriously want me to pay 7 bucks a month you have to get rid of those commercials, and streaming service needs to be at least as reliable as Hulu.
This app hangs several times per show. Streaming is frequently interrupted before or after commercials.... which are numerous.
Who built this app? Let alone who's supporting it? They have no clue how to operate an app relating to tv steaming community. It crashes, it freezes, it makes you submit credentials!! Over and over again!! Ugh!!! Then they're are the same 4 ads per month that they run over and over again. I'm paying for this app and they run commercials like its OTA!! Come on. Oh did I mention the interface SUCKS!
Uses proper design. Voice search works properly. Recommends way too many irrelevant shows. There should be a section of the app for shows I watch so I don't have to search every time. Captions should be customizable by color, position, and size.
Worked great for 6 weeks now Live TV does not work and the customer support line is really bad. Hoping for a new release and then I will change my review (if it gets better). Why does live TV work from my PC, from my Phone but not my Android TV when it did 2 days ago. Reset the android TV to factory defaults then reinstalled app and same error. Says no internet connection but I can stream all the shows without issue just nothing live. If your looking for live TV this is not reliable nor is it working properly.
To charge a monthly fee for television that is free OTA, is one thing. But, to still have commercials that you are unable to fast forward thru is almost criminal. There is nothing on CBS worth that amount of $ and time
Very poor video playback on nvidia shield Android TV. On the other hand, casting from Android phone, computer, etc. to the shield works flawlessly. The app also spams the home screen with random recommendations. Finally, the 'recently watched' category is basically useless. By clicking on a recently watched show, it doesn't take you to the show page, but instead starts playback... Of something you've already watched! A 'continue next episode' category would be much more useful. I did the one week trial and paid for an additional month to catch up on a show, but with all these issues, there's no incentive to pay for a subscription to a poorly optimized app with a confused feature set
Live TV doesn't work and I am in a supported area, just throws error internet connection required. Remove the ads and we may have a winner here. Why would I pay for ads?
The app would be great if there were no ads. I refuse to pay for a service and still have to watch ads. This is why I cut the cord many years ago.
My initial reaction was that $6 is too expensive for just CBS, based on a comparison to Hulu, Showtime and so on... worse yet, as I found out after trying it out, you still have to watch ads at this price! I won't be subscribed long.
Great app but only one issue is closed captioned font very small. I am Deaf person depend on closed caption.
you get adds, even though you pay for the content, you have to sign in every other week, but you can't do it directly from the TV, you have to use your computer or other device.
$6/mo and I still have to watch ads? No thanks, I will be cancelling after my free month is over.
Not worth $5.99 per month for only CBS shows AND commercials.
$6/mo with advertisements on most shows. No thanks.
I can watch the shows I missed on Android TV
Finally I can watch CBS content on my Nexus Player!

It plays video content and commercials nothing special. Rewind on a television with Android TV is not possible, it takes you all the way back to the beginning. Today cancelled my subscription because "The Good Fight" season 1 has ended. Only 10 episodes! Bummer. I will not subscribe again until season two is released NEXT year. There's nothing else in the CBS library that I cannot get from what my DVR records, or from on demand thats provided from my satellite provider
