What are users saying about Force Touch Demo

I believe the app would be better if there was a way to calibrate it so that a less sensitive phone would show higher numbers. Every time it said I was pressing under a .05, even though I was pressing hard. I just think it'd make the app more useful.

by P####:

Android does not have force touch. This app just gauges how much of your finger is touching the screen. Try pressing your thumb. Now try pressing your pinky. Fake

H70%
by H####:

I don't know about how it works for everybody else, but on my moto x 2014 the "pressure" is just measured by how much of your finger is touching the screen.

M70%
by M####:

More apps should add features based on this and show apple what they have been missing out on

M70%
by M####:

Every time I touch it sais the lightest touch, no matter how I press

L70%
by L####:

If you have Samsung Galaxy Note 3, 4 or 5, try this app. I have tried putting light and hard pressure using the S-Pen and it detects the pressure I made. Amazing app! :)

B70%
by B####:

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, apple fanboys!

M70%
by M####:

Does absolutely nothing. Gives random readings no matter where or how hard I press.

M70%
by M####:

Does not measure touch pressure. Measures surface area touched.

M70%
by M####:

What's the point? Only shows 1.0 force.

T70%
by T####:

Note 4, note 5, tab S2, and s6 does not have force touch. The S pen does though on the notes

M70%
by M####:

Not working on my note 4. Sorry

Q70%
by Q####:

Shows if your device has force touch and how sensitive. That's all. If it doesn't work that's an indication your hardware not having it, not the app malfunctioning.

L70%
by L####:

This app does not detect pressure sensitivity directly, instead it does a somewhat clever thing which is detecting the surface area of your finger that's touching the display, makes sense because regularly the harder your press, there's more area of your finger touching the display, but depending on the person, if you have a huge finger a light touch will register the same pressure as a hard press of someone with small fingers, so I'm guessing Android doesn't really support pressure sensitivity.

For people complaining that it doesn't work, and down rating it because it always says 1.0, STOP... This is a tech demo. Your phone (or tablet)'s hardware drivers may or not report the relevant details, this comes down to the OEM of your device including these details in hardware drivers or not. Not the app working or not. In the case of the Galaxy Note series, the drivers do not report these details when not using the S-Pen. The Nexus 6 reports "pressure" only at the beginning of a touch event or a substantial change in contact area, whilst the Nexus 9 reports continuous changes in pressure. These are device-specific quirks, Not problems with this tech demo.

What I don't think alot of people understand about this app is that it's NOT a game, and if it doesn't work on your phone its not a bug. Rather the point of this app is to demonstrate how Apple's "Brand new innovative Force Touch display" is actually a function Android has had for many years. If it doesn't work on your phone its not a bug, your phones screen just isn't as flexible. Why don't we see phones taking advantage of this function? Well quite honestly, a Force Touch displayed just isn't that useful.

I never knew android had that before the recent pocketnow article. But hey it's nice to know.

NINE YEARS, From NINE YEARS Android has it and now Apple shows off their "innovation" like it's a revolution in technology.

Q70%
by Q####:

Its a demo app, bad review are unacceptable, if its not working, not the developer problem its because your device doesn't support it.

K70%
by K####:

You should have a pop up or something happen after a certain level of pressure

Q70%
by Q####:

If you have Samsung Galaxy Note 3, 4 or 5, try this app. I have tried putting light and hard pressure using the S-Pen and it detects the pressure I made. Amazing app! :)

Always getting 1.0 light touch no matter what force or width of contact. Pls fix.

X70%
by X####:

But doesn't work on my galaxy s5.

Q70%
by Q####:

A point of note, it looks like in at least the Samsung Note series of phones, and maybe some other devices, this API is tied to pressure on the tip of the S-Pen rather than pressure on the screen. Any touch to the screen with your finger or other stylus will get a 1.0, use of the S-Pen will get you varying touch pressures.

Q70%
by Q####:

I tried putting my whole finger and tried pressing hard, that doesn't work it only register my touch as light no matter how hard I press

T70%
by T####:

But neverthless, i gave 3* because i see it's working on many other phones, so it's not your fault :)

Q70%
by Q####:

Does not measure pressure. Light touch with thumb reads higher than hard press with finger.

O70%
by O####:

Doesn't work on all devices because of a limitation SAMSUNG or THE COMPANY THAT MADE YOUR PHONE added in. It isn't the devs fault.

L70%
by L####:

Taps register from .1 - .25. Presses go up to 1.21. Nexus 7 2013.

G70%
by G####:

0 - 1.88. Pretty awesome! Never knew Android phones had this functionality. It'd be great to see this implemented into the OS via Xposed or something.

H70%
by H####:

Works perfect on Nexus7 Wifi 2013. Also with touch bluetooth pen on another.

Q70%
by Q####:

Good to see that Android has this feature since 9 years. Thumbs up for Android

Q70%
by Q####:

Does not work without s pen,

Q70%
by Q####:

Doesn't work on galaxy S 3

Q70%
by Q####:

But it doesn't work for my Nexus 6p

Q70%
by Q####:

If you really want the best demo experience, try to use the s pen and you'll see the difference. (Noted: For Samsung Galaxy Note only)

Z70%
by Z####:

Nice to know that it is there on android although my phone hardware does not support it.

M70%

I noticed my Moto G has this technology while test Apple's 3d Touch on the web. Out of curiosity I tried and my Android recognized force. Great job, Android :)
