“Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam biasa berdo’a di dalam shalat: Allahumma inni a’udzu bika minal ma’tsami wal maghrom (Ya Allah, aku berlindung kepadamu dari berbuat dosa dan banyak utang).” Lalu ada yang berkata kepada beliau shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, “Kenapa engkau sering meminta perlindungan dari utang?” Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam lantas bersabda, “Jika orang yang berutang berkata, dia akan sering berdusta. Jika dia berjanji, dia akan mengingkari.” (HR. Bukhari no. 2397 dan Muslim no. 589).

“Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam melaknat pemakan riba (rentenir), penyetor riba (nasabah yang meminjam), penulis transaksi riba (sekretaris) dan dua saksi yang menyaksikan transaksi riba.” Kata beliau, “Semuanya sama dalam dosa.” (HR. Muslim no. 1598).
