History:In 2000, the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto collaborated together to hold the 1st Canadian Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Comprehensive Review Course at the
University of Alberta. It was held at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta. There were 24 attendees and 34 teaching faculty from local and out-of-province Universities. The course was so
successful that it has carried on biannually - alternating between a Western Canadian and an Eastern Canadian host site. The course continues to maintain a high standard of teaching from faculty who are representative from across Canada.
Course Objectives: By the end of the course participants will: - have a complete overview of the content expectations of a Physiatrist - be able to apply anatomy knowledge in PM&R practice - be confident with commonly encountered physical exam skills in a PM&R practice - be able describe the current management of conditions commonly encountered in a PM&R practice
Course Goals: - To provide a bi-annual comprehensive course that provides an overview of core topics in the specialty of PM&R for 4th year and 5th year Canadian PM&R residents. - To continue to make this a non-profit event. - To continually improve the quality and relevance of the teaching based on participant feedback.
Course Directors’ Vision: We strive to attract expert speakers in the specialty of PM&R to provide up-to-date and relevant information for graduating Canadian PM&R residents. This course is intended to consolidate learning and prepare senior residents for real-world practice. We also hope that it provides an opportunity for PM&R residents from all of the PM&R residency programs across Canada to meet each other, form lasting friendships, and build a national community of practice.
