It seems to just take the number represented by a barcode and do an Amazon search with it, which is pretty useless. I scanned a bowl of Vietnamese pho and it took the barcode number and searched and a bunch of books/novels came up. Do yourself a favor and use the Amazon Shopping app's image search (little camera icon in the search bar); it works on barcodes too.
