About Parakeet Bird Sounds : Budgerigar Sounds
A parakeet bird is any one of a large number of small to medium-sized species of parrot, in multiple genera, that generally have long tail feathers. Older spellings still sometimes encountered are paroquet bird or paraquet bird
The budgerigar bird (Melopsittacus undulatus) also known as the common parakeet bird or shell parakeet bird and informally nicknamed the budgie bird, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot bird. Budgerigars bird are the only species in the Australian genus Melopsittacus and are found wild throughout the drier parts of Australia where the species has survived harsh inland conditions for the last five million years. Budgerigars bird are naturally green and yellow with black, scalloped markings on the nape, back and wings, but have been bred in captivity with Budgerigars bird colouring in blues, Budgerigars bird whites, Budgerigars bird yellows, Budgerigars bird greys and even Budgerigars bird with small crests. Budgerigars bird are popular pets around the world due to their small size, low cost and ability to mimic human speech. The origin of the budgerigar's name is unclear. The species was first recorded in 1805, and today is the third most popular pet in the world.
The budgerigar is closely related to the lories bird (Lory Bird) and the fig parrots bird. They are one of the parakeet species bird, a non-taxonomical term that refers to any of a number of small parrots bird with long, flat and tapered tails. In both captivity and the wild, budgerigars bird breed opportunistically and in pairs.
The name parakeet bird is derived from the French word perroquet bird. It is however a pseudo-francism as perroquet bird means parrot bird in French, while the French for parakeet bird is perruche bird.
The budgerigar was first described by George Shaw in 1805, and given its current binomial name by John Gould in 1840. The genus name Melopsittacus comes from Greek and means melodious parrot bird. The species name undulatus is Latin for "undulated" or "wave-patterned".
Alternative common names for the budgerigar include the shell parrot bird, the warbling grass parakeet bird, the canary parrot bird, the zebra parrot bird, the flight bird, the scallop parrot bird. Although more applicable to members of the genus Agapornis bird, the name lovebird has been applied to them from their habit of mutual preening.
