Axis 360 for Android
Using the app on Android only for ebooks not audio. App has serous stability problems. Will not work with eink devices. Crashes often. Better selection than Overdrive but that depends on the library. If stable and eink support would be a great app.
This app is too slow to load. Overdrive was the app I used previously. It loads very quickly compared to Axis 360. Axis 360 does not have options to adjust the brightness.
Can't check out books, or even look at their descriptions. Constantly has errors.
Easy to use. Like that supports e-book and audio book ... I use both. I'd like to turn off the optional audio on e-book. I frequently activate it while reading. Future feature improvement please ...
It is my main reading app.
Love this app
Good
Free! Free! Free! Using my local community library online ID and card number you get digital access to hundreds and hundreds of books to read and audio books for free. There are many current titles as wells as many former best sellers. I guarantee you will discover something to checkout. My only complaint is accessing a dictionary or thesaurus while using the reader. I wish those resources were more seamlessly integrated. As it is, the user actually exits the reader for the dictionary. When leaving the dictionary, the reader app must be unpaused always takes linger than you think it should.
I really enjoy listening to the books. I would like to see more audio books offered though. My only real complaints are that the app will just stop and close every once in a while. It doesn't always pick up where it left off when the books are paused. And for some reason the headphone controls on my skull candy headphones have only worked a couple times. I never have an issue with any other app using the playback controls. None of which is a deal breaker. I still enjoy the app.
Seriously!? This is crazy. Does this app really only have 1 of every book? Even mega popular titles! Use overdrive, much better. Now this app is saying I don't have any holds, but I did an hour earlier. Also it's saying there's no internet connection. Then three seconds later I'm online posting this. UNINSTALLING IMMEDIATELY!!! UPDATE: Axis 360 has redeemed itself! Way better now. Better interface easier navigation. Going to up the rating to 3 stars.
I love how our library has this program as well as being able to check items out directly from them. Now, I can check a variety of e-books as well from the convience of my own home. The site is very simple to use. I'd definitely say user friendly
It's adequate... though the selection seems smaller than when I was using overdrive... but the library is switching so oh well. The player takes longer to load than overdrive did and it also does not seem to accept commands from in cord player controls which makes it less handy as I have to pull my phone out of my pocket and wait for the player to load before I can pause to talk to anyone.
After a year still bad. Accidentally highlighting test starts speaking it. Cannot read when not connected to internet despite description to the contrary. Always resumes with large font despite prior setting. Unable to finish reading or re download book halfway through. Would give negative stars if I could.
This is the service my local library offers, so I don't have options that are comparable. For what it is: a free app that lets me borrow and listen to audio books for free, it's good. I've had several problems with the app freezing as well as not saving my place in an audiobook, which is annoying.
It stops occasionally on my Note 8 and doesn't automatically go back into the book to listen. It jumps to the browse section. It needs settings to choose where it resumes or it needs to remember the last state being used. Consider drivers and minimize the taps needed to play a book.
So sad the library chose this app. Sometimes I can't open books, or once I do open the book, I can't turn the page or return to bookshelf. This app has a LONG way to go before it can hold a candle to Overdrive. Update 10/24/17: Still a terrible app. I try to avoid using it when the books are available on Overdrive, but sometimes I have to use it. Right now it's frozen on the same page. I've tried restarting my phone, and I have a new Samsung S8, so I know it's not the phone. Terrible app!
At least once per book the app freezes, and I have to Uninstall the app and reload, then download my books again. This is especially annoying when it happens while I am in the middle of a flight. Also, every time I open the app (not just when I install again) it changes back to app default settings on font size, etc. So I have to reset again. There also seems to be no feature to tell me how much I have left in a chapter, just how far I am in the book. I like to know how much I have in the chapter so I know if I can fit it in before a meeting or bedtime. Overall, I'm disappointed that my library is switching to this instead of overdrive.
Ever since recent updates, I can't read offline and the app crashes regularly. For a reading app, that's a major problem. Correction- crashes whenever I have a network connection and use it, after about ten minutes.
It's a pretty miserable app for playing back audiobooks. It's wildly buggy, constantly loses your place in the recording, restarts the book over almost every time I pull up the app, and will even jump over to other books you may have checked out when using the mini-player. It's chaos and very frustrating to use. You need to bookmark your place CONSTANTLY to make it even remotely bearable
The app is pretty good. I'm grateful to have access to lending books through my tablet as my eyesight has become compromised recently. The only problem is frequently, the app will not open the current book file if the previous instance was not closed out completely. Also, screen orientation changing can cause the same problem. Both are easily fixed by closing all previously open appliactions and reopening this app, but it's just a little annoying. Otherwise, this is just as good as Kindle.
Haven't tried an audiobook again since the new update, but the e-book I have checked out is driving me nuts. Takes forever to load, has restarted me to the beginning of the book twice (when it says it's "syncing"), keeps changing the font size back to large, frequently activates the read aloud feature when I'm trying to turn pages...i just don't understand how it can be this hard to have a reader that just works. Stop trying to add new features, just make the ones that are already there work properly please.
I love using the app but recently it's not keeping my book mark where I leave off in my audiobooks. Please fix this, it's very frustrating to have to find what chapter & minute you were on every time you open your audiobook.
Terrible. I can't even check out a book. Tried closing and restarting. Same error issue. Tried again 2 weeks later same thing. Useless don't even bother. Just realised I checked out an item on my wishlist. It errored and now that book isn't on my wishlist.
Too big: no option for SD storage. Also, speed adjust too big: 1x - 2x with nothing in between. Constantly starts abook from beginning when stopped, I switch to another app, or it crashes while playing back to it's view of suggested titles to borrow.
Spend more time trying to get the book to load than I do actually reading it. Why is this category of app (ebooks from library) always such a disaster?
The app keeps re-syncing while I'm reading and then it "forgets" the font size I have chosen so I have to keep resetting it....very annoying. It has also frozen a couple times and I needed to restart my phone to get it to work.
It loses my place all the time. I have to constantly bookmark to not loose my place in my audio book rather frustrating. It exits app then starts at the introduction. Also a bummer I can't pause with the button on my headphones.
E-x-t-r-e-m-l-y slow to load and open a book. Wish the library would use a different app or have someone fix this one.
I thought this was a nice simple e-reader app but after using it for several weeks I can't say I'm a big fan. Freezes regularly while loading and takes far too long to sync while attempting to open a book. Highlighting something is often painfully difficult and usually results in triggering the voice dictation by accident. And if you can't spell the word highlight correctly, what does that say about QA overall? speed up the performance and improve the features and it would be worth an extra star.
Thanks for listening and updating the playback speed. Still some minor glitches but overall a pretty decent player. Easy to use. Books download quickly and are easy to return when done. I like how the app tells you which books expire first so you know where to start listening.
Only gotten halfway through one book but so far so good. How can you go wrong with an audible that offers free books from the library
Locks up all the time. Hard to use the audio book features with Bluetooth headset. Have had to reload books Maurice's to finish book
My library switched from Overdrive to Axis 360 a couple months ago. Axis is easier to navigate, but buggier. For example, Axis will be playing an audio book just fine...and then just stop, with no manual intervention from me
So far so good. Doesn't have every specific title I'm looking for. It does have things I. The topics I'm interested in. Great option with my public library card!!!! Go free knowledge.
Recent updates have really improved the app. Wish that playback speed could be controlled. Sometimes 1.0x speed is just too slow! UPDATE - mind readers! Axis 360 now supports multiple playback speeds. I'm in business - 5 stars!
Quite good but a bit sensitive reading on a bus. Keeps turning on talking book feature. I would like more book plot info. Sometimes missing or very sketchy .
The app keeps crashing when listening to a book. It also takes a really long time to download compared to others. It doesn't have a widget either and that's what I really appreciate on the other apps.
fault but Continually syncs. Not between devices on the device I am using. Continually. Additionally I have been getting a pop-up that says evil cannot be viewed continually. Considering this doing it on two devices I do not believe it is a device specific error but an application error. Extremely frustrating!!!!!!!!!!
I use this app with public library downloadable audiobooks. I am pleased that I can listen to the books for free. However, the app does not have good controls for managing multiple books. Also, I cannot go back to the previous chapter using the 30 second rewind button. Finally, the app does not keep track of the reader's exact stopping place and goes back to the beginning of the chapter when listening again after a time gap. All of these issues get in the way of a seamless listening experience.

It constantly looses my place in the audio book. I wish the library didn't move away from Overdrive. It worked so much better. Edit: well it's not loosing my place any more, instead it's just crashing randomly or when I get a text. Edit 2: It has gotten better, but still has a way to go. It doesn't loose my place anymore. There are no Bluetooth controls so when I play the book in my car I still need my phone to pause it. Also as others have mentioned it is really slow to load up or restart. What is it doing? I just want to get back to the book and it's sitting there thinking about it for a minute. That is an eternity for an app to be unresponsive.
