Sky Q for Android
How often does the app need to register with the STB? Every time I come to use this while I'm away from home it's non-functional because it needs to be connected to the Sky Q box. At least give me the option to sign in with my Sky ID as a backup so I don't have to wait a week to use it again.
Seems to work only on Android 5.1.1 and above. Will not work on 4.x.x correctly so Galaxy tab pro 10.1 is out. If you root device to upgrade to lollipop it says' will not work on rooted device'. Should have been easy enough to tell everyone this before they move over to Sky Q!!
I installed the app a while back and it worked fine but have tried to connect on a sky wifi and it won't find my account or box just redirected me to sky+ it's a load of rubbish just like the multi room boxes that crash and don't start unless you unplug them
Cannot watch TV away from my sky Q box anymore. I'm not sure if I can even access the things I downloaded to my phone using it anymore either, as the menu doesn't appear when not connected to the box. Bad update.. never take away functionality!!
The app DOES NOT WORK on a samsung tab pro sm-t520.....the app connects to my box and shows all my recordings. When you click a tv or recording it wont play. Just says preparing. Then says there is a problem with the connect between the tablet and sky q. The same on my wifes samsung galaxy tab pro sm-t520.. ...WORKING.WORKING. .. MY BT BROADBAND HAS 2 SIGNALS- 2G AND A 5G...2G DOESNT WORK BUT THIS APP DOES WORK ON THE 5G .......there you go developers i have solved this problem for you after 2 month of trying ....☺☺☺ NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO IT HAS STOPPED AGAIN .......AAAAAAAHHHH
This is the worst app I have ever experienced from a major company. It freezes and crashes on every occasion I have used it. Samsung S2 tablet and Xperia Z3 phone. A very poor effort from Sky especially considering the extra expense of Sky Q. This is no longer a new piece of hardware and software.
Was working fine until update. Now says the app isn't installed. Reinstalled and now it tells me to launch sky go instead. And Sky go is potentially the only app on the app store worse than this one!
Ignore all the comments having a moan about the app being broken since the last update. It works fine. You have to authorise the app again on your Sky Q box before it works. Don't update the app until your at home if that's an issue.
the app works to a point where i select a recording to watch on my tablet but no picture comes up. its just a black screen with the sound running. works on my mobile fine and its the exact same androiid os. pixel c tablet and nexus 5x phone
would like to no how to install Sky Q on to a laptop and a kindle fire with just one e-mail acct and one phone number on the phone. If anyone can tell me that would be great Many Thanks
App updated today now I cannot see my downloaded content. It tells me to connect to a skyq box. How do I do that while travelling?! Utter failure. Another failure is that every time the main box updates connection from the other boxes is lost. What an utter waste of money considering all the tv content is available online from more reliable sources.
App locks up selecting most of the options from the main menu. For example, it locks up selecting Catch Up TV, Sky Cinema and Sky Box Sets. I have tried reinstalling the app, but no difference. I'm on a Galaxy S7 edge with Nougat 7.0.
Sky Q almost have this mastered. Ignore the bad reviews. Downloading to view offline is great, only occasionally can you not download which is down to the rights so not a sky fault. Only reason for the 4 stars it's because the app may freeze on occasion
Looks like I can only set things to record on my box using the app when I'm connected the to WiFi which the box is connected too. I try log in when I'm out to record and it tells me I need to connect to a box. Bit pointless and clearly not as good as the sky HD. No issues with that system
Will not work outside my wifi environment short cut says app not installed, have to use sky go , waste of time, sort it sky, its as frustrating as sky q itself with failed recordings and disconnecting from wifi...POOR EQUIPMENT UPGRADE
Used to be 5 star, but now keeps crashing nexus 6P. 7.1.1. Really nice app, hope it gets fixed soon. Looks like a conflict with dashlane. Now all working again and 5 stars :-)
Keeps kicking me when i try to skip forward when watching a recording then says cant connect to sky box or just wont play. Have to restart sky box every time. Also recently been saying i am using the app on the max number of devices available when i am only trying to watch on one device. Needs more updates and i miss the features of the sky+ app i had with old sky HD...should introduce the features of fast forward/rewind with finger swipe as its hard to rewind/fast forward just using the bar at the bottom especially on longer recorded programmes.
I thought that the physical box continually failing was bad enough, but this app won't even let you get to the tv guide before it hangs. Totally useless and most likely untested. It should be taken off Google Play until it actually works.
The Q app is now completely borked. It used to run absolutely perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 but now every time I try and watch live TV or recordings off the 2tb box, the percentage on screen goes up slowly starting from 14%. Then when it does finally start playing after around 10 seconds it will start buffering and will once again start counting up slowly from 14%. Android version 6.0.1. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app as well as resetting my tablet to factory settings. App works fine on Galaxy S7 with no issues. It's not a WiFi issue as I have tried it sitting right next to both the Sky Q hub and 2tb box. Download films/TV shows work fine in the app but seem to take a longer to complete. I can't recommend this app at the minute because the multiscreen subscription is also specifically for tablets as well as the Mini Boxes and I think anyone with a multiscreen with no Mini box would would be paying £12 a month for nothing.
So after updating, I can't watch anything unless I'm connected to my Sky Q Box!!! So now I'm paying a hefty amount to not be able to watch live TV when I'm too far away from my Sky Box! Amazing Fail!!
I pay £12 a month for the privilege of being annoyed every time I want to use my service!? More fool me. This app is designed to create stress, very slow and unresponsive, random crashes and playback errors on downloaded content. The 10% of the time this works it's amazing, but Sky - we are not your beta testers! Oh and why on earth do I need to download to 100% before I can watch, surely there should be a play option once enough has downloaded.
The app works great but is it supposed to be able to change channels on the Q box like the old sky. If not it would be a nice feature to have back
Won't play live tv on phone when out of the house even on Wi-Fi, have to use sky go which has poor picture quality and buffers all the time.
Update seeming uninsulated the app, when I had downloaded things for remote viewing! Angry. "Bug fixes and stability improvements" - what a joke!
Nexus 6p 7.1.1 now will not load app worked fine a couple of days ago. Great app. Have just uninstalled and re- installed and now works again :)
Worked fine until update now can't find sky q box and will not close. Had to do a forced apps close. Tells me to install sky go which is a backward step
Would be brilliant if it works! Great that I can access all of my recorded programmes on my tablet but the app continuously has to buffer, lots of errors and playback issues. (Yes I have checked and no it's not my wi-fi connection!)
Since the last update i am unable to watch anything at all on my samsung galaxy a tab, was working fine before. The app connects to my q box but takes ages to load whatever i want to watch, plays for about 10 seconds then stops to reload the programme. Getting really annoyed with it, its the same with live tv and recordings. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, reactivating the connection on the q box, forwarding each programme to the end then back to the start (in the hopes that if it loads the full programme to the end then i'll be able to watch from the start) and have the latest software on my tab but nothing's working. The app works fine on my galaxy 7 phone and on the ipad, why is this happening on android tab? Would not recommend if you are planning on using on a galaxy tab.
Well, like all Sky apps this one is terrible. Constant freezing, unnecessary hurdles to jump over and bloat. God i wish Virgin would serve my area. *My Q boxes got the latest software update today and it appears the app is now not functioning correctly with the box. The menu's are different and can't watch on mobile anything on my box, says it was recorded on a different box. Typical Sky.
Why the hell does the app need to make phone calls? Won't allow you to use it if you don't allow it to make phone calls. Obviously going to be calling premium rate phone numbers when you're not using your phone!
Waste of time since update barely works frustrating and useless on the Samsung tablet from sky jokes just keeps telling me to restart app error code when you try to watch anything even after reinstalling **ANGRY** sky customer as if not enough problems with the main boxes with sky q now the app doesn't work either
This is the 3rd time I had to uninstall this app as it says Sky Q box not found. I have the sky premium package & it's not worth the money I have to pay. Unfortunately until Virgin gets their cables in my area, I am stuck with sky. The customer services don't have a clue & technical support go through scripted solutions which does not solve the issue at all. They just take your money & what you get is substandard. Really really unhappy with Sky
After today's update the app no longer recognises my SkyQ box, which is a slight problem with it being a SkyQ app!
This sky Q app can't find my Sky Q box all I get is search again or use Sky Go icon
Takes an annoyingly long time to get into the app each time, but once properly started it works very well.
It may be useful to be able to watch shows on my tablet, however it is a backwards step that you can't use the app as a remote for sky on the TV, like you could with sky HD. It also won't work with my phone (which Sky HD did) so I can't record shows if I remember them when I am out now.
Constantly freezing and crashing when it does work I'm unable to download to an external SD card (as far as I can see)
Does allow you to control your sky q box via the app. This was a feature on sky hd boxes. Sky Q is lacking some basic but good features for sky hd.
Regularly crashes when doing the most basic of functions, such as browsing scheduled recordings. Not worth the hassle.

An all round very good app. The only reason for the 4 stars is because the app uses your internal storage when downloading to your phone, with no option to change it to SD card. I have 30 odd gig free on my memory card and about 2 gig internal so quite annoying I can't change it
