Creative Halloween Topiary

These simple Halloween topiaries get dressed up with crepe paper ruffles and ribbon. Make a polka dotted pair of topiaries to flank a fireplace mantel.

Materials
STYROFOAM Brand Foam

12” cone; 2” ball; scrap of foam
Other Materials

Acrylic craft paint: orange, black
Circle stickers, 2”, or contact paper
Crepe paper roll, black
Glitter spray: orange, black (read label closely
Low temp glue gun & glue sticks
Newspaper
Ribbon, 3/8” x 24”
Rubber gloves
Toothpick
Tools
Paint brush
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle & thread
Wire cutters

Instructions
1. Cover work area with newspapers.  Insert toothpick into foam ball to use as handle. Paint ball black and cone orange with acrylic craft paint. Let dry. Hint: Insert toothpick into scrap piece of foam to hold ball upright while paint dries.

2. Spray cone with orange glitter spray and ball with black glitter spray. Spray on several light coats. Let dry.
If using contact paper, cut out 2” circles. Remove backing from circle stickers or contact paper circles and arrange randomly on painted cone. Pay special attention to the edges, and be sure the stickers are firmly adhered.  

3. Spray cone with several light coats of black glitter spray. Let dry. Carefully remove stickers.
Set sewing machine on longest basting stitch.  Stich down center of crepe paper; crepe paper will ruffle as you stitch. Glue ruffled strip around top and bottom of cone. Or, using a needle & thread, hand stitch down center of crepe paper strip, gently pulling to create a ruffle as you go.

4. Glue ribbon around middle of crepe paper ruffle.

5. Glue orange glittered ball to top of cone.
