Bento Lunch Box

A bento box is a takeout meal, or a meal packed at home. While they are most common in Asian cultures, particularly Japan, they are beginning to spread throughout the West as well. A traditional bento box lunch includes rice, fish or meat, and some kind of vegetable. Bentos are known for their elaborate presentation, the more complicated, the better. Bento makers fashion food into shapes like flowers, characters, or other recognizable everyday items and forms.

The reasons behind bento boxes are many: To make food look delicious, to demonstrate care and love for the recipient, and as an art form in and of itself. By spending extra time on the meal's presentation, the recipient feels loved and cared for... and kids even may be more likely to eat their vegetables when they're shaped like their favorite cartoon or anime character.
Bento boxes have become popular in a number of other Asian cultures outside of Japan, such as Hawaii, the Philippines, Korea, and Taiwan. Just a few minutes in the morning can transform a normal lunch into something worthy of celebration.
