About 050 Free
050 Free is a smartphone app that allows VoIP calls to regular phone numbers.
Users simply need to setup their account with a Brastel Card, a prepaid calling card distributed in Japan, to start making calls at extremely reasonable rates within Japan or to overseas.
Apart from cheap international and domestic outgoing calls, 050 Free also offers a local phone number totally free of charge for incoming calls. Calls between 050 Free users are free of charge and from other phones, the charge would be as calling to an IP phone number.

Unless you have a phone in Japan, you cannot get a 050 phone number. I wish I know that before I buy the card.

Can you please add the vibrating setting? Cuz it doesn't vibrate when someone calls me so sometimes i dont notice it and i'm missing out on a lot of call

I don't understand why I need a Japanese phone number to register. The point of me using this app is so that I can have a phone number in the first place! How can I make calls via WiFi without having a landline number. I need an app to provide me my first Japanese phone number.

Very good app, I use it for my main mode of communication. A bit of feedback on recent update, i prefer the previous exit app at my account rather than current recent app. When I clear all my recent app I have to manually restart the app everytime which is quite annoying.

I don't know why, it worked perfectly but now i cannot hear others voice clearly. But they can hear my voice clearly. Please correct this. I am using asus zenfone 3 ze 552kl. I have tried multiple contacts, but the issue is the same. The problem occurs when i receive call too. Please help.

For me one of the distinct features was the ability to call toll free numbers. Can't call anymore it seems. Update: I haven't made a decent call for the last two months while using this app. I hear them but they can't hear me. All my money just wasted wasted wasted wasted wasted.

Voice quality greatly improved by changing the compression codecs. Thanks for the text support. New problem: the app stops at one and a half minutes. The Wi-Fi signal bar turns to ? Mark even if I am sitting next to my WiFi. Fix this and it would be near perfect. Thanks. As it is now, useful only for very short talks.

It claims to be free to make calls, but without credits, it won't let you call anywhere. How can it claim it to be free? Complete nonsense and totally useless, Skype does it just the same, there's no need for registering or loading credit on another service. Uninstalling it.

First the download says 33.24MB. When I downloaded then checked app on phone, it was occupying 66.48MB of space!! Crazy! Next, first call made using app was excellent. About 30 mins later calling the same person it was all croaky and distorted. Person kept asking to repeat. Frustrating. I gave it 3 stars because it worked well on a previous device. Will upgrade or downgrade rating as I continue to observe function.
