Human Japanese Lite for Android
This is such a great aid in learning Japanese. I struggled for months trying to teach myself hiragana and katakana. However, in a couple of days, this app very simply, but very efficiently, taught me all of the syllables. Now I don't get them confused with each other as I did with many of the similar syllables (like まvs.も, はvs.ほ, ぬvs.め, etc) before. It even involves some other info besides on the language itself (like the geography) which is also super helpful. I definitely recommend this to anyone. ʕ•ٹ•ʔ
I really like how this is going so far. But I also find having romaji translations help with pronunciation and I think it would help a lot if you added romaji to your sample phrases. I haven't gone too far yet but I haven't seen a lot of romaji. The audio is also a little fast for me.
Nice Japanese learning app with just 8 of 45 chapters included. Want to upgrade to full paid version but concerned about lack of account set-up so you can use on different devices and keep your place.
Fantastic! I wish I had found this app sooner! I've never purchased an app before, but I will definitely be buying the full version. Perfect for total beginners. Author is funny and relatable. I've installed numerous Japanese beginner apps and this one is the best by far!!!
This is THE Best Japanese learning app, hands down. So detailed and so perfectly woven, you'll find it very easy learning basic Japanese. I would've definitely bought the pro version without second thought if I was able to afford it.
IF all those errors I mention would be corrected, then it would be worth 11.99 euro. Several times I hear ü pronounced as oe like in English you! えい like eiy. You say English learners learn Japanese is easier than for Japanese learners learn English. To me it's even more difficult because my native language is Dutch, my knowledge of English is only high intermediate level. I already also downloaded the intermediate level lessons of your lessons. Is an advance level in develop progress as well?? A pity that 11,99 € is too much for my very low income :) Thank you.
I've been practicing with a different Japanese learning app, but it's based more around memorizing than actually getting intimate with the language itself. The teaching method is so inviting, and there is a ton of information in fairly brief sections. Just finished the first chapter and I feel like I've understood more about Japanese in these 5 minutes than I have in the past 3 weeks.
I never review apps but this one is too good not to. I will definitely be purchasing the full version once I finish up the lite version!
I'm actually not optimistic in learning Japanese using this app at first, but wow in just a short time now I can read hiragana and understand some basic Japanese words. Combined with mnemonics chart from tofugu, this app is one the best tool to learn Japanese. I immediately bought the full version after free part ends.
I find this app really effective. I'm using other textbooks to learn Japanese and this is a great supplementary material to those textbooks. But if this is used on it's own, it'll still be enough to learn Japanese. Great job to the app creators! ♪ヽ(´▽`)/
I could use something a little slower to progress, but combined with flashcards for hiragana it's been useful. It's actually interesting to read the bits about history and I love the photographs to just break up the lessons a bit.
This is an amazing app! It lets you learn not only about sentence structures and grammar, but also some of the history behind Japanese. I use this one to understand what I'm learning and Duolingo to memorize sounds and phrases. If you want to truly learn Japanese and not just memorize some common phrases, get this one for sure!!!
Many apps and softwares throw phrased and words at you expecting you to memorize but this app goes through the absolute basics of the written characters, how they are used and its grammar and syntax from the ground up.
This should be everyone's no1 choice of reference for learning Japanese. Thank you so much for teaching me!
I have had this app for about 3 days and its amazing how it's so detailed, I love how it goes step by step. Unlike other apps that just throws you right into words without you knowing anything. I think this app is great for beginners.
This is the best Japanese learning app that I've come across. Everything is explained very well and I especially appreciate the background and historic lessons in between. It is great to know the "why" and not only the "what". I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn Japanese. Thanks for a great app!
I can't believe the first 8 chapters were actually free, without ads! I look forward to completing the eighth chapter and I will obviously upgrade to the full version, it is clearly worth it, surpassed my expectations!! Best app to actually learn Japanese!
It is a touch more detailed then anticipated, however useful and easy to follow. I'm enjoying it!
I would purchase the full version if I just had the money(I'm just a kid)! This is just so helpful!!!☺
I really enjoy this app however after upgrading my phone, I have to constantly install the "one time" download. This means I can only use this app when there is Wi-Fi.
Best language learning app ever and trust me I know the difference by learning two languages already not including Japanese. Good way of explaining with use of history and basic sense.
In my entire life, I haven't found a language learning app that is this much informative and simple and make you actually think that you learning from a teacher and not from an app. Simply amazing
It says you only need to download once and can be use offline. NOT TRUE!!! It's useless!
Force landscape mode. Useless for studying on the train while standing up.. which is everyday
I really love how it's conversational and informational, how there are quizzes, you can take IN APP notes, it's very well thought out and easy to understand. I absolutely love it!
I could have saved 600.00 if I had found this sooner. This is doing a swell job teaching, compared to my "sensei" in school, and that's sad (for him) everything we've covered in my class, this (even though the lite vs) is doing twice the explaining of everything between. Luckily in the same order, but man this app is good!
I am only up to chapter 6 but if this is any indication of what's to come I will definitely be looking at buying. My only issue is that I would like to have the hiragana/katanagana sections be also accessible in the menu. If I want to check stroke order or the tips it's pretty annoying to have to rummage through each chapter to find them.
I keep seeing people complaining about the fact that this is a trial or demo of the full app, but that's not a bad thing at all. It's an amazing app and it's very well laid out. I have a few Japanese born friends who have given the app a look over and even they have said it's very good and teaches you in a more personal manner, rather than something from a textbook.
Before coming across this app, I had many on my phone about learning Japanese but I still didn't understand the symbols and the structure of the language. I found this one and I deleted all the other apps!!! This app is fantastic and it really is the perfect "teacher". I can't believe people complain for it not being fully free. Some people are so pretentious that it's unreal! You want the app, you want it GOOD and FREE. What about who put the work to deliver it? Consider adding a "Donate" button.
I am enjoying learning with this app. Normally I find them too complicated or too simple. This one, while not getting too hard to follow, seems to have managed to balance the two so you can enjoy learning while still being challenged to learn. . . . It's kept my interest, so it must be good! LOL If I may suggest . . . a downloadable PDF with all the characters for the Hiragana (maybe with the box faded in the background) with the Katakana character, the "romanisation" and pronunciation for each, as an assistance tool would be very handy.
Well, the app is perfect for new learners....
great app but chrashes alot on my s4 running lolipop. if it wasnt buggy i would probably buy it since this is the best app i have used so far
BUYING THE FULL VERSION!! Omg, this is such a great learning app for the Japanese language! It's more in depth with pronunciation, grammar, and history of the language compare to where most other apps are just translation and memorization. It's like reading an actual textbook and not go straight into listening to a phrase and then try your best to sound the same. I RECOMMEND IT TO THOSE WHO WANT TO LEARN JAPANESE!!! I don't understand why some people would feel this is too expensive to buy? Like, actual Japanese classes are $100+, most softwares and programs are $20+, and for $10 nobody could afford a useful app? I'm just saying, you are missing out.
You will want to upgrade. Pros: you can choose to skip around so you can acquire vocab, grammar, and hiragana/katakana simultaneously instead of only learning reading first; best explanations of writing, grammar, and historical context (you learn to form sentences early on and don't have to rely on memorised phrases); sound AND characters for everything; all offline. Cons: there's no real account created so your bookmarks etc. don't get transferred when you upgrade to full version. Worth paying for!
First and foremost I'd like to thank and bow deeply to all the team members included in the credits section. Outstanding piece of work! As an English teacher and Philology graduate I have to admit the contents of the app have been organised and presented exactly the way I do when teaching and have brought the unbelievable results. I have tried a few approaches to Japanese before, but this one has been the ONLY one successful so far. ありがとうございます。
This app made Japanese feel so easy to learn! It really helped to give Japanese a familiar feel. I definitely intend to buy the full version. I only have one question. Is there a way to look at all your notes as a whole, rather than going page to page?
It is a brilliant course -very attractive design, deliberate explanations, academic approach. The only flaw I could perceive by now is the lack of search facilities.
It is a touch more detailed then anticipated, however useful and easy to follow. I'm enjoying it!

In the past 2 weeks I've tried 4 apps (willing to pay for a good trial experience) and spent countless hours searching the internet for a well-rounded, quality and enjoyable method for actually learning (not MEMORIZING) Japanese and was disappointed each time. One last search revealed Human Japanese Lite and reading the intro was all I needed to know this is the one. Either this guy just has a way with words or he simply enjoys creating a fun experience for learning a new language... or both. Buying the full version now and will review again, but I have no doubt it will be positive. Nope, I'm not a plant... just relieved.
