About Hong Kong Rain Radar & Reports
Thunderstorms are common in certain times of the year in Hong Kong. While I am outside hiking or cycling I like to be able to predict when a rainstorm is going to hit so I can take shelter. I don't like to get rained on. To help me predict when rainstorms are going to come, I have become heavily reliant on the rain radar from the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO). Their radar is provided to their end users in at-least 2 ways: via a specialized application that can be installed on your phone or via their website. I found that both of these ways do not work too well when I am out on the go. I cannot get the HKO application to work well on newer Android devices; and this app suffers from feature bloat. The website is not very usable on a phone browser. All I wanted was an easy and fast way to access the HKO Rain Radar without the feature bloat of the application and without the usability issues of the website. All I wanted was a no-frills light application that will help me download and display the current rain radar from the HKO. The result is this application. Its goal is to be fast and usable so you can quickly and easily tell when rain is coming. This application allows you to view radar imagery and forecasts via the app itself, home screen widgets, periodic notifications, or a live wallpaper.
