About DN - Save Elephants

Kenya’s elephants are being slaughtered at an alarming rate. As a result, we are now facing an unprecedented
CRISIS as elephant populations have declined by 85% since the 1970s to just 30,000 today. The recent dramatic
upsurge in killings is being fuelled largely by an upsurge in demand for ivory by foreign countries. At the current
rate of poaching Kenya will have NO wild elephants in 10 years.

Our campaign HANDS OFF OUR ELEPHANTS is a 360 degree integrated communications campaign that is led
by Kenyans and is targeted at a local and international audience. The campaign will be spearheaded by Kenya’s
First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and features Kenya’s national heroes, celebrities and key influencers.

The campaign is designed to create awareness, engagement and mobilization at ALL levels of Kenyan society –
First lady, Government, Private Sector, local communities and conservation groups with the goal of Saving our
Elephants and wildlife as a whole.

This multi-platform app is built for people to walk for "hands off our elephants" cause.

I fully support the idea and project. Congratulations to the initiators. My suggestion is: let the proposed walks to save our elephants be organized first at the local levels-that is in every community where there is a National Park or a National Reserve let there be held a mini local walk to involve and create the awareness of our elephants' safety to the community. For example, in Meru County, the mini local elephant walks should be held for Meru Park and Nyambene National Reserve at the local level. That will give an idea of what the local community think about the wildlife in general. Level of participation will be used to gauge where poaching needs an extra pin for safety of our elephants.
