About Blue Iris

This app is a CLIENT for the Blue Iris Windows PC software. In order to make use of this app, you must have Blue Iris version 4.x installed and running on a Windows PC. Instructions for connecting this app to the PC software are found in the Networking topic of its Help file.

This app provides a single point of contact to your home camera network. There is no need to insecurely open individual cameras to the Internet. This app connects using a secure and session-based protocol--no passwords are transmitted in plain text.

The good, the bad and the ugly. The app connects seemlessly, which is good. It STILL doesn't do anything meaningful with push notifications! The device plays a sound and flashes up an alert at the top of the screen ... and that's it. It doesn't bring the triggered camera to the foreground, or provide a hook for Tasker. It's been like that for years, so it's about time the app was updated. That's the bad. The ugly is the GUI. It's about time this app was updated.

Use to be an Excellent addition for the Blue Iris PC based software.. Chocked full of functionality and it worked flawlessly.. Beat the Cam manufacturers android-based apps hands-down but several updates ago the app started crashing/freezing each and every time.

Waste of money don't work in note 8. I have it in apple plus phone and stop working since the last update. piece of JUNK. They should make sure apps are good before start to sell.

It's a good app in terms of functionality. There are a few things I wish were better (I'm hoping the app developers see this). Automatic connect works very inconsistently. Sometimes you'll open the app and I can hear the connect sound from the Blue Iris server but the app is stuck there trying to connect (happens both when connected through the LAN and WAN). Sometimes cancelling and trying again fixes it, sometimes you have to force close the app and launch it again. Ideally the app would skip showing the connect/server select screen and jump straight into the main screen. I'd love it if the push notifications sent a still image so I don't have to pull up the app and wrestle with it trying to get it to connect if it doesn't work initially. This would also make it so I can just glance at my Android Wear watch when a notification comes in. It'd be nice if they had shortcut buttons on the bottom of the screen to jump to Cameras or Alerts rather than having to open the hard to reach one-handed hamburger menu every time. It has a very dated look and the icon, when converted to black and white on modern Android, is a solid white cube. A switch to Material Design would be nice.

It's not pretty but I'll take functionality over looks any day. I can look at my life feeds and replay any recordings. It's exactly what I was looking for.

Unfortunately the snapshots taken from blue iris either don't show for me or appear on the wrong date. I hope they can fix it... 5 stars if they do.

Developer pushed an update that broke remote access to my cameras for several days, though to their credit a subsequent update has collected the problem. Hopefully they will do more testing for future releases?

This app compliments Blue iris which is hands down the best IP CCTV system out there. The only shame is charging for this when it should be part of the app. But hey. Good stuff costs so I'll live!

Used to be snappy and responsive. Last few updates made it unusably slow and unreliable. Several 3rd party apps log in and work almost instantly so it's not my setup causing it. I'll change my review if it gets fixed.

App used to work great. But as of several months ago it connects intermittently with cannot find server or will just freeze. More than half the times when connected the app will just freeze then after several seconds to minutes resume then freeze. Same happens when trying to view a camera and record and anything dealing with viewing. Ken, the app was great before this issue. Do you not have any knowledge of this problem? It happens across all of my Android devices. It is not specific to version or device.

Needs serious work. It's dated and unreliable. I have to restart the app at least once before it will connect. When it works its good but is needs to be fixed. The very buggy. I hope the developer hasn't given up.

Had a bug on the last update but developer was quick to fix it. And for the first time ever the mic works and I can talk through my cameras. Woo Hoo!!!!!!

This app is a little slow for some reason. The iOS one is much quicker to load up and display the camera. But Blue Iris itself is great.

App works for great! Developer has constant updates and fixes that make it even better. Sometimes something beaks so all you need to do is email and a fix will be our in a couple days. Really fast turnaround considering the price you pay for support is basically zero. There's an option to pay additional which puts you in front of everyone else. See the IPCamTalk forum for more information. There are sections dedicated to Blue Iris.

To Ken's defense, most, if not all "connection" issues are cellular network related and not the apps fault. I'm not sure why but 4G connectivity across the entire US has seen severe degradation over the past months. I'm with Verizon and they have gone from being the best to hands down being the worst. But, I've investigated other carriers and the issue is the same. Very low bandwidth and low signal strength. What I would like for this app to do is detect "low" network bandwidth and be able to adjust to it, even if it means lowering the video resolution to 320x200. Yes, this is very low resolution but on a cellphone screen, not really that unacceptable. And if not that, then just show "thumbnails" and state that low network connectivity prohibits streaming of video. All this is not really that difficult to add. Just a low res thumbnail is better than nothing (a spinning wheel) or being told "unable to connect to server". Just my two-cents worth

Still broken from 9/12 update 2.0.47 still not fixed on Oreo. Security cam software should not be this buggy to much riding on it..

Update as of 9-12-17 is unstable on Nougat and unusable on 4,x and others most likely. Avoid like the plague

Works OK, but can't fast forward recordings, have to manually watch it in real time ( make's recordings obsolete when each file is 2 hours long, BVR format)

Update... after completely uninstalling and reinstalling the app and rebuilding config it now works... Had to figure that out on my own, no support replies to my email or comments... Error was - unable to connect - after being able to connect fine prior to recent upgrade
