Black Owned Businesses for Android
I like the concept, but what I tried to search for businesses using my location it kept showing me businesses in on the other side of the country! And when I typed in my address and hit save it kept changing and editing my location
I like the concept, but like many reviewers, I agree that the music is unnecessary. It's also in need of a sleeker look. Take the young lady out of the background. And please update the information. I live in Philly and it's giving me services for Pittsburgh. Uninstalling for now.
First I could NEVER open this app where anyone could hear that opening music. They would, understandably, think I was racist as hell. Second I live in a small city outside of Chicago but the closest black owned store is in Milwaukee? I'm pretty sure there are a few in my small city and I know there are a LOT in Chicago. So it doesn't work. Make it work and get rid of the racist music and I'll redownload.
I only downloaded this app to give a review! The concept is great but let's be clear if the developer isn't african american and is familiar with African American culture how are they going to direct me to an African American business to spend my money. An attempt to review the developer site of course was unsuccessful on my sg5 using Chrome browser! Be careful downloading these bogus sites allow the developer to create a database full of your phones content all while feeding of the needs of culture! Delete
This would be a very beneficial app if it actually worked. Constantly added my location and it gave me every other area's listings except what I entered.
Although I applaud the initiative this app does not work well on my phone it freezes up in the GPS is not working correctly. Also I think the app needs to be more simple. Say for instance if I put food it gives me categories such as grilled food buffet catering so on and so on. This app should just tell me what black food services are available in my area instead of asking me what kind of food do I want. Just tell me what's available in my area and then let me choose. This app is way too complex
Not even worth a star. First time I used it, it took me to a restaurant l will not go to (chilli's). WTH happen to Black own?
Waste time..
I love the fact that you incorporated African principles from kwanza and the music is just fine.... looks like we need more businesses to sign up. I'll help spread the word.
I love the concept. Would love to actually keep it on my phone but it needs to much needed work. For starters the music in the beginning and also location. I keep getting Tennessee and I live in TX. I updated my location several tines and it keeps giving me other states when I know for a fact where I live we have several black own businesses. When you guys update it let me know and I will upload it again
Just needs updated information. I will do my part to add blacked owned where im at , in Jacksonville Fl
Amazing idea to enable us to easily locate black owned business! I will be spreading the word like crazy!!!
Once I seen Walmart on the list I now don't think this app is accurate. Deleting it....
Concept is great but searching for places is terrible they give me businesses 50 miles away sometimes even further
I looked up the nearest grocery stores and a bunch of Asian owned stores showed up. Smh
Brother Nuri Muhammad spoke about this app in a speech given. I was nearly done watching when he suggested downloading "Around The Way" (it appears the name is changed). Opened it and found several businesses I liked and will support. I will put my business there and suggest others to go on and do the same! Excellent!
I loved the idea and the concept. The music that comes on when the app opens is distracting and unnecessary. What if I'm opening this app at work? Also, it says the nearest black businesses to me are in Kentucky or Tennessee, and I'm about 30 minutes outside Atlanta,GA. And why does it take up SO much of my battery life? Usually when I get off work i'm still looking at 75% battery life. Now? I'm looking at like 18% after an 8 hour work day.

That video is so depressing. We can't impress upon people to support their community in a positive and business oriented way (spending happy money "shopping" as opposed to sad money "donating") by throwing depressing statistics at them. People need to feel like the app improves their lives in a very direct endorphin-rushing shopping-oriented way. Thinking positive brings natural long-term gains. Pushing a negative (even though true) narrative may bring short-lived gains of guilt. Just change that vid
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but the app isn't showing any black businesses in my area. I live 20 minutes outside of Atlanta and the businesses that pop up are over 200 miles away.
Loved the app, I really wish note owners signed up, however I hate the initial music that comes. As it stands now, I can't open this app in any business settings, the music is a complete distraction to everyone around me.
I love this app. Allows me to know what black owned businesses are local and I even found some that I didn't know existed. Will tell my friends and family to dowload. I love this!!
This app is not very good at the moment. Nothing in my city, which is populated heavily by blacks and black businesses. But I like the concept and potential so it gets
The idea is grand. However, I live in Atlanta and this app tells me that the closed black owened restaurant to me is in Tennessee. I highly doubt that!
I was excited to find out about this app as I am a business owner myself. While attempting to add my business it gave me several errors. App crashed when trying to load my logo. Gave me input errors without giving instructions or indicators as to how to fix. Please update this app. I would love to spread the word.
Great idea that needs work.
I tried adding my business, but it wouldn't allow me to.
THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!!!! We just need more businesses noted. Love it
Sadly this app is not that good. It tell me places in States no where close to my location. I'm in DC and it's mostly PENNSYLVANIA, NEW JERSEY AND NEW YORK locations. I know it said to tell our local black owned businesses about the site but it needs a lot of work. I hope it progresses. I would live to make this my "go to" app but it's not working. And I can't find the other app called "Around the way" also created as a black owner directory
Exactly what I needed to help support black businesses but does not work properly
There's this idea I had "what if google allowed me to search black owned businesses?" Nope, they don't offer this function. Maybe they think it's 'reverse racism', or will make the broken economic system more balanced. Then I think of pitching the idea, or creating it myself in the future. But fortunately I find it already exist! However, the app is very buggy and gives results for businesses hundreds of miles away. Please fix this and update continuously because this app has a lot of potential!
Many good categories, however not many African-American listings. I think more people need to know about this app. I'll definitely share this information.
I love the fact that you incorporated African principles from kwanza and the music is just fine.... looks like we need more businesses to sign up. I'll help spread the word.
I love how when I travel I get notifications to let me know when I'm near a Black Owned Business
I support this
It does not list any businesses in my area. Not much help for me.
Need more help finding black/african owned businesses in St. Louis
I found this after listening to Nuri Muhammad video to the consicous community. Wow! I had the same idea to develop an app like this. now here it is. GREAT CONCEPT!
None of the businesses were in my area, 200 miles away or more
