Piper Mobile for Android
Don't mind the UI, but this latest update has made connectivity a nightmare. Takes 2 to 3 launches of the app for it to connect, even with wifi at full signal strength. EDIT: Now it doesn't seem to deliver any SMS or phone prompts...
I've had this for about two years, and I'm disappointed they haven't really improved anything in that time, including adding a web interface (which they claimed was "in the works" in 2015). The smart arming/disarming is still in "beta", which is appropriate since it's so flaky. The biggest flaw (and security hole) is that the camera will record only for 30s and then not rearm for at least a couple of minutes. If someone breaks in, you could lose valuable footage.
The concept is great but the execution is poor. It works for a period of time and then it loses network connection. Only certain remedy is factory reset which requires reinstalling all connected devices. This is quite time intensive. Reliability is my major concern. My video doorbell hasn't lost connection since I installed it. Wish I could say the same for Piper. I want the system to work but unfortunately I can't count on it.
Works for me. No disconnects. Still, can't see any active development rather than bug fixes. Dead end? We really need grouping of devices like light bulbs.
Now the home vitals do not work and my Z-Wave still kicks devices off the network every day or two
Need to upgrade, bugs shutting app down and not loading correctly. Half useless when trying to see whose activating it. Please fix
With latest update, 2 way audio no longer works...quick fix I hope. Otherwise, love this!
If the batteries are dead and you unplug it to move it, it will not reconnect to the internet. This is great hardware with poor software. So it's like a security guy with no brains
Not reliable and not connecting back after power outage. Good idea but very buggy
Would be great to view live camera via wear watch, canary has had this feature for a long time now, why is Piper behind?
impossible to install the app in Israel, unless Im a customer of "Bhome"?! why cant I buy a cam and connect it directly?
Good app for me but let down by lack of flexibility. Can't control multiple pipers seperately.
Takes too long to set up. Keeps disconnecting. Bought a ring spot light 100% better
Love everything, the app works great!
Works great.
Love it
Why have multiple Pipers? Cannot make individual alerts for every Piper only a global mode(s) Video is no way near HD quality. Not even SD. Look what Alfred can do. Now that is a well designed app. Like other posters have said, get rid of the current app manager and staff. Get people who know what they are doing! They take features away thinking they known best. Give the user choices! Like the old way that Piper used to say, "Piper is Armed." Have in the Settings, use either Voice or Chimes. Etc,etc, etc.
Camera is fantastic. App is decent. This would be 5 stars, but it is crashing a lot on both of my android phones. Seems like turning the phone off and back on while watching the camera live view tends to crash the app. Lots of excellent features in the app. I like the 3-day history of temperature, light, sound, motion. Wish I could export that data out of the app on to my computer. The Z-wave controller works well with a lamp plug-in I got. The IFTTT integration is useful too. Overall, glad I bought this camera.
Will improve as more rules and sensors are certified I figure. June 2016: Like latest version us needlessly obscure with too small print and little colour. Reliability is better overall. Oct. 2017. Anything less than perfection isn't good enough for a security system.
The camera itself is pretty great, but the app has major connection issues. It was basically unusable for 2-3 weeks because the app couldn't connect to the camera. Their last bug fix addressed that for a while, but the issue pops up again from time to time. Not worth buying a camera that you can't connect to or arm/disarm when you want to. I'd reccomend looking for a competing product with better software and support.
Great idea, app is terribly glitchy, inconsistent. I am so disappointed. Camera and app works well for about a year then app tanked, had gotten possibly less reliable. App freezes constantly, have to go to app manager to kill it to get it to work again, black screen, sometimes the sound doesn't work. Terrible, good product product downhill.
Their Support team sucks, one of my Piper had never worked. It is still under warranty, and rather than replacing or fixing it, they are sending the same one back to me. Their support team is highly disrespectful, rude and not supportive at all. It was my worst experience ever with any service reps. Sorry Piper for choosing you.
Each time that Piper rolls out a new version of their software updates it gets worse and worse. Lost functionality now of camera view so can't see what's going on anymore since this last update. They have failed to keep up with the market and keep up with other manufacturers out there. Overall they have been lacking innovation with new features or products. Had so much potential when I got it a year ago and now regret buying it. If I could go back and do it over I'd and get something else. I have it paired with Life360 through IFTTT. And half the time I end up setting the alarm off because it doesn't disarm in time. Siren is loud, if you're standing 3 feet away, but if you are in another room not too loud, It wouldn't bother anyone if they were breaking in, and not too audible outside to draw attention if something did happen.its good enough to wake up to if something did happen at night perhaps.
Greatest thing since security systems were invented. No monthly fees. Also does so much more. Traffic reports, news, and weather alerts.
Once you know how to fix the frequent issues it works well until you need to reset it all again! Otherwise a good but expensive system.
App crashes each time when I try to reopen it.
I've used the app with multiple phones and with and without WiFi. I always have issues with connectivity using the app and video quality is never great. Lag, freezing and sometimes errors are frequent and expected. Opening the app takes a unreasonable amount of time. It seems to record well upon alarm being set off and saving the video clips is easy. But that's about the only positive as I've also had various issues moving and reconnecting wifi. I've had to entirely resetup Piper multiple times over the course of ownership even though I have had the same wifi connections. Frustrating and I probably would not have purchased if I knew the app and quality would be so inconsistent.
New update is full of bugs. I've had to reinstall my units twice. Camera views don't come on consistently. Takes way too long to make connection. Update 9/3/17: One of my pipers is again no longer reporting/sending video. Internet connection is good and another piper in same location is working. No notice received. As the unit is located remotely it is not possible to manually reset. Very disappointed and sorry I bought a second unit.
The last week Piper won't connect to the app. WiFi is good, the light green, but I can't turn my alarm off or control my lights! No troubleshooting is working. I've uninstalled the app, unplugged the piper, restarted my tires, etc. If the app is the only way to use the piper but it won't connect to the device then the whole thing becomes useless. I'm most upset that I can use my lights!
Latest update now defaults the camera to point directly up. I have to pan down every time I load the video feed. In addition with the latest update, I am having connection issues.
The last update erased the user data and caused it to log out --unacceptable. The temperature/activity graph is too coarse and has no zoom ability. It's Z-wave interface has no diagnostics and very minimal control. The download function makes no mention of where the clip files go, and there is no way to direct them to the external SD. I've used it over a year and have concluded that this app could be a LOT better than it is. I would give the hardware 4+ stars as an affordable solution, but this is about the app.
New update is full of Bugg, always have connection issue, made it useless peice of hardware. If you want to stay in the business just replace your app developers and get a knowledgeable person. Thanks for wasting my time and money.
Would be nice if the app was reliable and connected to WiFi while the siren is going off when one forgets to shut off alarm. Is there a reason it won't connect right away while the app is alerting me the siren is going off? If this is fixed I'll change my rating..
App constantly disconnects from device so if it is armed, alarm will go off until you take batteries out, unplug, restart, leave room as it reboots alarmed and then once it reboots you can disarm it. Since app is only way to access device, get it right
Unreliable. Rarely connects to the video stream, barely useful as a monitor much less for security
Since the last update the app no longer connects to the Piper system. Completely useless for the last week! I'm on Lg G5. This system is now a paperweight.
Doesn't work! I was told by piper tech support to reinstall the latest version and now I can't connect to piper at all! Piper isn't ready for deployment with so many bugs
The app itself is getting fairly decent periodic updates, however I had to wait more than a week for the latest app update for my second Piper NV to work.
This app completes takes an almost worthless product and takes it that last furlong to make it completely worthless. Utter garbage product and a just as terrible app. If I could give negative stars I would.

This is a fantastic device/service. I've had the NV piper for about 6 months and my family loves it. We sleep better at night and are at ease when away from home because of piper. Added several sensors to increase coverage. And with IFTTT recipes it really is a hands free automatic operation. Also works with Amazon Echo which is a big plus. Can't recommend it enough. Get it!
