Want to display ACARS transissions, without using a bulky computer?
ACARS Decoder lets you view ACARS transmissions on your android device. Just connect it to a VHF radio (or even set it next to the radio's speaker), tune in an ACARS frequency, and watch the decodes.
Decodes can be automatically saved to an acars.txt file on your device's SD card or other memory by enabling the Log button.
Leave the radio's squelch open so you have static all the time, and tune to one of the ACARS frequencies:

It does what its supposed to do, just noone wants to listen to static all day long... would love to find an android app that does the same thing just not having to go through the speakers

The app apparently stopped any development at the beginning stages. It needs to be able to use headphone mic for input and mapping interfacing. Definitely not with the money paid.

I'm decoding ACARS on 131.550 AM just fine using a Vertex Standard VXA-700 air-band transceiver. I opened the squelch Per the developer's instructions, placed the speaker near my Galaxy S4, and it's decoding quite nicely. Does not have the Setup features that are in the Apple version (Replace Errors ON/OFF; Suppress Errors ON/OFF; but it does work as is.

Just dreadful. Tried two radios with three Ariel combinations and it failed to decode anything. Tried with the radio next to my device and plugged directly in to it. Don't waste your time and money. Simply dreadful app.

Unlike many other reviews, MINE WORKS. I have a ASUS TF201, and it took some "positioning" to get the scanners speaker close enough to the MIC The B U T is because this app has absolutely no DOC, or HELP screen or ANYTHING. Gee Whiz guys, why would you NOT have at least a "Help", or a settings function. ? Because of this I give it 3 stars, MAYbe if you include a basic settings.help I'll go for 5 stars

Yes, if you follow instructions -- start app, place near speaker of radio with proper squelch and volume settings, the app certainly will decode ACARS signals. Good job, there! The only problem I've encountered has to do with the Log feature. Turning it on is pointless, as there is no way to actually save the decoded messages onto your Android phone for retrieval later. Also, the app's FAQ is written only for iPhone products, not Android. I would like to request that the ability to log and save text files of the messages on Android smartphones be included in a future update to the app. Once that feature is fixed, I will upgrade my review to five stars. Thank you to the developers for a nice app, otherwise.

Picked up data from internal and external mics. It will show output even with missed characters, which is good. Placement of mic, volume, and reception are important.

Tried repeatedly to get it to work on Android with no success. The apple version from same company works fine and the scanner is set correctly. This version very disappointing. If there was a - minus score it would get it.
