BlackBerry Device Search for Android
Great app, and I loved the functionality when using it on my BB10 device, however on my BlackBerry KEYone the app opens up very slowly. When I configure the device to launch into search when short pressing keys, it takes a few seconds for the app to even open up. This latency really takes away from the user experience. If the app opened up right away (even if my search results weren't yet ready), and I was able to see what I was typing and see the app open, then I would be able to use this app much more frequently. Please fix my concern! This app deserves a 5 star rating otherwise...
slow, shows random apps that have the letter somewhere in the name rather than AT THE START ,example type f for facebook and you get 'heads off' first because that has an f at the end CLEARLY NOONE AT BLACKBERRY ACTUALLY USES THIS.
Pretty great for local search. Ability to choose web search provider (DDG?), and launch browser with typed url would round this out nicely. Maybe kill two birds with one stone and just let the browser handle the raw input when you choose "Internet" from extended search? Also, would love to be able to manually re-order the search categories.
Using the KeyONE, the universal search takes about 5 seconds to launch from initial keypress. I can open a Web browser and search faster than that. Also, long keypress will typically initiate a search for the letter being held down. For example, holding "f" opens flashlight but then searches for "fffff" making this feature basically useless. This is a terrible, unacceptable bug.
This app is genius. If my samsung was considered a "smart phone" before this app, then this app has turned it into a "smarter phone". This feature is awesome. Google should've included this as a standard feature built into the OS. Why would such a great feature like this be left out of the OS? Well anyway, thank you BlackBerry for turning my Samsung into a "slightly smarter phone". The BlackBerry androids automatically come with this app. Maybe the BlackBerry phones should be called "genius phones"
It's great app. It is searching contacts even in my corporate domain. But if it's possible or not to add instant action for every contact is found? I mean if contact has phone number - to add ability to make instant call to contact and to send him SMS, if contact has WhatsApp - to send him WhatsApp message. All of it aimed to reduce quantity of taps.
Well there are multiple problems with this app. I decided to use the google search after trying to use this, and after a year I decided to try it again today, unfortunately none of the major bugs has been fixed. Note: my main use of this app would be to start typing and have the search results show up. 1. the first letter i click to search for disappears. For example: i type "John" on the keyboard, the search show "ohn" this problem is bad enough to forget about this app. 2. once i have switched to a different app and I start typing the new letters i am typing are added onto the old letters (ofcourse missing the first new one) So to continue the example above if I type "John" again, i will now have "ohnohn" great, what am I supposed to do with that?! 3.Lets say I backspace and then write "john" normally, i find the contact below, it even shows up as a contact, thats not bad, but clicking it open's John's profile, I want a way to click a contact an immediately call. please fix these issue, they type a name, search and call is one of the main reasons I bought this phone. (Using Blackberry Priv)
Would like to be able to input the search engine I use seems like it's just Google. Will wait to use it once that's an option
Best local search engine
Great app
Love this, just needs an option to clear previous searches every time I hit my shortcut key.
Very useful app to me, search stuff quickly. Just need a quick search widget and would be 5 stars.
I liked it, it does job like in BB. If we can map this to home button.. I'd love it..
Awesome app that should really be baked in to the operating system.
Great app. Wish it was incorporated into the home button. Reminds me of BB10
Saves me time, that's that's for sure.
Does the job pretty good. Keep up the good work.
Luved it
It's great
1. Doesn't clear previous search when started by short key press from BlackBerry Launcher. Uninstalling updates for this app is the solution, because the older version does not have this irritating issue. 2. Diacritics-insensitive search is performed only in some categories. (For example: Contacts are OK, but “sms …” and “call …” and app search are not.)
Please fix the multiple issues that are plaguing this otherwise great app: 1) not clearing the previous search on short press search; 2) cannot open files e.g. pdf in the search result (why..?) 3) can't switch input method while in the search box (alt+enter) as that immediately quits input and performs the action (as if only pressed enter)
Blackberry, please improve the initial searching speed as it is very slow. Still I am giving you full stars for bringing this awesome feature from blackberry os 10 to android.
Works very good but it misses a widget, I used to have a passport and search on-the-go was great but with the priv it's either slide out the keyboard or launchong the app, if there was a widget or it would be implemented inside the launcher it would be very easier to use
Cant say I use it a lot (same goes for google now).. But depending what I need to look for this works well at compiling it from all different sources whether it's my email, website etc... but wish this worked more like a file manager as it can be a bit messy trying to find specific files
It would be great if this app has customizable functions like SearchBar Ex. Local search is already great so adding custom web search function will push this app to the top of web and local search apps.
Feel like I'm on BB10 super fast and comprehensive search of your whole device!
It's nice but oslo slow on my phone
Super easy to use and makes my life easier.
Good
Nice
The device search is a good app. But it comes with it's shortfalls. The device search is slow to start from when triggered from the physical keyboard. The search categories should be made more feature friendly like that on BB10
you need to make it more like BlackBerry assistant on bb10, but good app. Would be better still if you integrated this into BlackBerry Launcher
Works well. Finds everything!
It's ok, nowhere near as good as bb10 though. If you do a search, minimise it, then try to do another search it doesn't give you a fresh start. Doesn't let me launch directly into web pages like the bb10 version either. Not integrated with a BlackBerry filemanager also. Another reason my bb10 passport is still a work device. Better fix before the hamburg is released. Thanks.
I really like BlackBerry Device Search on my Pixel. It is fast and pretty much always finds what I'm looking for. I do wish it included a widget that I could just start typing what I want to search for from the home screen. But it's super fast, even without the widget.
It would be great, except it only searches within BlackBerry apps, won't search own phone contacts etc. Also, needs to be able to search the phone storage, like downloads and files, especially it is literally just 'BlackBerry App Search'.
Guys you should really do something about it. Hub+ is the main battery drain again. Interestingly enough when I was in vacation, full on WiFi the whole day, it drained 90% less than on 3g/4g/lte. Not sure why, but it is how I experienced it. Maybe have a look into it, it really needs to be fixed!
Only searches for headers but not the content inside of those titles. Passport was way more thorough than the PRIV search.
I'm amazed every device doesn't have this it is so useful and so wonderful I really truly completely love having a full-on device search like this. It is so necessary and good.

Doesn't clear last search, so slows you down. This would be awesome if it automatically cleared the last search every time it was launched, but it *only* does that when launched from the Blackberry Launcher when the setting "typing starts a search" is enabled. If set to launch, say, with a shortcut key or any other method, the previous search remains present. I don't like giving feedback as reviews, but I emailed this feedback on 5th May and have had no response. Even some instructions on how to launch this with a shortcut or intent that cleared the search would make all the difference.
