Clueful Privacy Advisor for Android
You'd be surprised how many things an app can learn about you. Without you ever knowing it.
Clueful is like your own personal “Privacy Consultant” giving you detailed info as to what your installed apps are doing in the background without your knowledge. It checks your apps against Bitdefender’s constantly updated Cloud database, calculates your device’s “Privacy Score”, and then informs you as to which apps are sacrificing your privacy.
Benefit from Clueful’s extended database of verified apps. Curious to find out more about an app? Look for it using Clueful’s newest Search feature. Now you are able to check whether an app does more than it says in the background before installing it. If we’ve already scanned the app we will display a list of clues from the Cloud allowing you to make informed decisions when it comes to the apps you’re downloading.
Did you know that apps can:
- Leak your phone number, e-mail address, contacts from address book to aggressive ad networks or third-parties
- Play audio ads while you’re on the phone
- Spam you in the notification bar, even if not accessed
- Send your password unencrypted over the Internet, a password that can be easily intercepted
- Upload your calendar
- Read your browsing history, which contains sensitive data
- Read and send SMS with or without your permission, thus incurring charges to your bill
- Intercept SMS
- Make phone calls with or without asking for your permission
- Monitor your phone calls
- Upload your device ID. (This unique ID can be used by developers, advertisers and analytics tools to track your location or behaviour across more than one app)
- Track your location and share it with third-parties
- Access your photos
…and many more. Really know your apps with Clueful!

Tells you which apps that are reading your texts, calls and other info. The apps are divided in three categories, high, medium and low risk depending on how much information they mine out of you. It is an absolute must-have app in this day and age.
I'm always careful with what apps to install and installed apps, so the information this app delivers is very important. So far, I found out several installed apps on my device have some intrusive permissions and one app actually leaks information. The search bar has an amazing functionality where you can check apps risks before installing them. Highly recommend Clueful.
This really does find data leaks that you would not find just looking at permissions, which is very useful. This app does exactly what the privacy advisor feature in their paid app does, but not the same results. The results are outdated and nearly everything has not been analyzed. Zero battery and performance impact. The UI needs updating to match the full mobile security. In summary, please update the app.
I used to love bit defender software. This hasn't been updated since 2014. How can it know anything about new apps? I just downloaded it so I could warn people that don't look at the last update date. You guys used to make a great small footprint AV program I used on all my computers, but with Android you don't really even need AV software unless you download from unknown sources. At least take non updated or dead apps off the store.
Useful if I could run it occasionally, but it bombards me with warnings every time an app updates. Also needs config option to ignore certain permissions like internet access or location as they are too prevalent
It simply shows the permissions given to the apps with a description. If we dont like what we see we can revoke permissions if we have the latest version of android if not our only option is to uninstall the app.
Most of the apps are now listed as not yet having been analysed including some common apps that haven't changed for some time... disappointing but the app is still informative to a point
Tells you what you should already know if you read the permissions when you download an app. I wish it would take into account app ops settings, because I am blocking 90% of the issues claimed by this app
Says Every Useful app is medium risk but it's very good for finding high risk apps. Calls Most apps medium risk that Norton does not, but this is free.and Norton expires.
It would be awesome if stock spy wear could be erased
This app used to be very helpful. But it hasn't been updated since May 2014 and it appears that apps are no longer being analyzed. There are alternatives now that are up to date and which provide much more information.
But can you please provide some kind of application to remove unnecessary permissions from certain applications. Or do I have to root phone in order to do that?! I don't really know.
First pass. Several issues are necessary apps, including high security communication types. No high risk is good news, so I'll have to sort that out with Bitdefender.
Can we have an option to stop those apps to steal our data and personal information?
I want to know which apps are opening my gstore to and web pages up i can see everything else myself
It tells you bits of Android like the keyboard are a risk.
I have high speed internet not working on Android 6.0
The app tells me which apps are a privacy threat & which ones aren't right when they are installed. I appreciate that a lot. I wish it could block/restrict/give us a heads up when a high risk app is leaking any such data or at least block the transfer of data through from such apps & ask our permission before letting the data transfer to take place(maybe just in high risk apps).
Found 1 app (say no to 0870) to be dodgey and lots of other medium threats.
Knowing that Bitdefender is tops in it's league, simple tweaks r always appreciated. Especially when they don't conflict, or otherwise deter from a good thing. Thnx much, Stan
This app is nothing to do.. just showing the permission, it also do that in settings->applications->application manager. It's not block any app or their permisions. It is just useless...
Does inform low, medium and high. Then let's the owner choose what they will do with the apps they've installed.
I want to know which apps are opening my gstore to and web pages up i can see everything else myself
Does nothing. Tells you which apps are a problem, then redirects to a paid app to handle the problem. If most app developers just put the paid app first and the free teeter app, I would consider purchasing it. This trick is a turnoff.
"Server is down"
It tells you bits of Android like the keyboard are a risk.
Excellent. Thank you, developers!
You should have it it would be better if you didn't had to pay
Handy app to see permissions - worth installing.
I've blocked internet access for titanium backup with noroot firewall but this app keeps telling me titanium backup has internet access.
Missing some threat I've download games that read phone I'd can follow you in all apps like browser can get your credit card and debit numbers still your money but better than nothing unlike other apps like it ask for private information this app don't they have privacy policy on web site download ya hear for now safe
Easy to use and track your privacy, best customers service and answer quick. This team care about you and our privacy. Thanks
Currently, it appears to not have information on any apps, as such it has flagging certain system apps and known legitimate apps as Medium Risk. As it stands right now, its of no use to nin-advanced users.
Does an OK job of showing threat possibilities, but not much depth. Good pair with an AV program.
My Top Choice for checking app permissions. Thank you, Bitdefender!
Helpful, but may be showing false positives because some functions like sending location are what an application is intended to do.
Even though it draws attention to suspicious permissions it will already tell you what the play store can tell you.
It's an excellent advisor on what level of information your mobile is, or may be leaking, leaving it to the user to act on. You can uninstall apps. You still need your choice of internet protection. Many people are unaware they are giving away all their personal data, some don't care - more power to advertising and gov't.
Clueful must work on providing a real privacy ! : why having acess to my accounts ?
