En 1569, Casiodoro de Reina legó al mundo de habla castellana su insuperable traducción de los textos bíblicos, la cual llegó a ser conocida como la Biblia del Oso. Treinta años después, en 1602, Cipriano de Valera realizó la primera revisión de dicha traducción. Es interesante notar que, con el tiempo, esta revisión llegó a conocerse como la versión de Cipriano de Valera. El revisor había superado al traductor.
Con el paso de los siglos la revisión de Cipriano de Valera ha sido a su vez objeto de continuas revisiones, entre las que destacan la de 1909 y la de 1960, realizadas hace ya cien y cincuenta años, respectivamente. Surgen entonces varias preguntas: ¿Por qué se realizan dichas revisiones? ¿Cuál es la razón que lleva a realizarlas?
Tales preguntas tienen una respuesta clara y contundente. La lengua es un ente vivo y en constante proceso de cambio. Lo que ayer pudo ser comunicante, hoy puede ser poco inteligible. Es un hecho innegable que la lengua castellana, que en nuestros países de América Latina ha llegado a conocerse más como idioma español, se ha ido distanciando notablemente del habla peninsular.
No han sido pocos los lectores de la versión Reina Valera que han preguntado si sería posible contar con una revisión de esta versión clásica, sin que tal revisión pierda el carácter singular que supieron imprimirle Reina y Valera. Es decir, que la nueva revisión sea un reflejo del español que más y más va siendo reconocido como «latinoamericano».
Sociedades Bíblicas Unidas, en su deseo de responder a las demandas de los diferentes lectores de la Biblia, ha tomado en serio estas solicitudes e iniciado una nueva revisión del texto de Reina y Valera, que sin alejarse de la versión clásica pueda leerse y disfrutarse con el mismo placer y la misma devoción que la traducción y revisión de hace más de cuatro siglos.
La presente revisión de la Biblia completa representa los primeros frutos de este intento de respuesta. El Comité de Revisión ha tenido ante sí la traducción de 1569 y la revisión de 1602, y además ha cotejado ambas a la luz del texto griego, bíblia contemporânea, sin dejar de pensar un solo momento en el lector latinoamericano de nuestros días. Y aunque la erudición bíblica de nuestros tiempos reconoce la existencia de manuscritos griegos más antiguos, esta revisión reconoce también que tanto Reina como Valera basaron su traducción y revisión, respectivamente, biblia contemporanea reina valera, en el texto griego conocido como Textus Receptus. In 1569, Queen Casiodoro bequeathed to the Spanish-speaking world unsurpassed translation of biblical texts, which became known as the Bible of the Bear. Thirty years later, in 1602, Cipriano de Valera made the first revision of the translation. Interestingly, over time, this review became known as the version of Cipriano de Valera. The reviewer had surpassed the translator.
Over the centuries the review of Cipriano de Valera was in turn subject to continuous review, among which the 1909 and 1960, made a hundred and fifty years ago respectively. then several questions arise: Why such revisions are made? What is the reason leading to perform?
Such questions have a clear and forceful response. Language is a living entity in constant flux. What could be communicating yesterday, today may be unintelligible. It is an undeniable fact that the Spanish language, which in our countries of Latin America has become known more as Spanish language has diverged significantly from peninsular speech.
There have been many readers of the King James Version have asked if it would be possible to have a review of this classic version, without such a review lose the unique character who knew how to impart Reina and Valera. That is, the new revision a reflection of Spanish is more and more being recognized as "Latin American".
United Bible Societies, in their desire to meet the demands of different readers of the Bible, taking seriously these requests and initiated a new revision of the text of Reina and Valera, who without departing from the classic version can be read and enjoyed with the same pleasure and the same devotion to the translation and revision of more than four centuries ago.
This revision of the entire Bible represents the first fruits of this attempt to answer. The Review Committee had before it the translation of 1569 and review of 1602, and has also collated both in light of the Greek text, contemporânea Bible, while thinking a moment in the Latin American reader today. Although biblical scholarship of our time recognizes the existence of oldest Greek manuscripts, this review also recognizes that both Reina and Valera based their translation and revision, respectively, contemporary Bible King James, in the Greek text known as the Textus Receptus.
