WeMo for Android
I love love love how the Belkin Wemo Wi-Fi plugs can create unique home environments. The reason for the 4 rating was because as I moved them from one wireless network to another, it was really difficult to reset and re-pair them. I couldn't get the extension applications to work in the new Wi-Fi environment. I also found that the integration with other smart home apps was really cool.
It is extremely unreliable which is typically not what I want for something that turns on the lights. Often, it will not be able to communicate with the switches - or it will say it is on when it is off and then lose the connection. I had to uninstall and reinstall the app every time I added a new switch. I followed the instructions carefully and my router is close to the switches, so it is not a connectivity problem. I have used other Smart plugs from a different manufacturer and never felt this frustration.
I have one main modem router and four others routers connected with the main with LAN. Wemo is connected wirelessly with one of this routers. Unfortunately it never seems to work. It only works when it's connected to the main modem router. This is absolutely unacceptable. I bought 2 of them and I intend to throw them to the garbage. Ridiculous application. I will try to find something at least with stable performance. Such a waste of money
The app and the devices work, but just barely. Slow clunky interface with lots of loading and constant hanging/freezing(?). Updating firmware takes hours and multiple attempts, with no progress showing on the app. And don't get me started on my failed attempts at connecting the wemos to Google Home. Badly designed/optimised app/devices. Horrible experience.
Generally I find this app functional. And fairly easy to use. However I do encounter occasional synchronization problems between the true state of the module and the status being reported in the app. During initial setup I also had to use a tablet instead of my phone as I was unable to get my phone to "lock" on the devices WiFi.
Lamp switch number1 was great, I've had it for a few years and loved it! Tried to set 2nd switch up, and it will work as long as the other one isn't enabled and turned on! And the winter & summer rules are a pain in butt to set, cuz it only gives me certain hours to use! On the first switch, I could choose my own preference and time frames! The new app upgrades suck! So I'm not impressed anymore!
Great concept, app doesn't always work properly. Sometimes I come back to the app and it shows the crockpot on but lost all of the timer information. It still shuts off at the right time its just the app loses all the info. I still use it and recommend to people. Its nice to control dinner remotely.
The WeMo app is slow and terrible to use. It is a very unrealistic way of controlling your lights. Thankfully there are other developers out there that do write 3rd party apps for the system and make it much more realistic including widgets for individual lights and combinations of lights
We have been using WeMo devices for three years now and have not had any issues. We are using two WeMo wall switches and an insight switch, and three regular wall switches. They work great. They come on and go off based on the rules that have been created and I never have a problem overriding them remotely. All in all, we are very happy with WeMo and looking forward to more devices we can convert over. Also, love the ability to integrate it when the Amazon Echo.
First 2 switches were easy to install. Plug in, connect, done. 3rd switch was not so easy. App could find on wifi. Got a replacement from wemo, which went fairly easy, although you have to ask for a prepaid return shipping label. App could see the switch on wifi but would not connect. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Finally got it connected but then my other switches were gone. However they were all visible on my wife's app. Another uninstall and reinstall and finally can see all 3. Not sure if I'll bother trying to add any more wemo products.
The wifi smart plug turns off randomly and I updated the app and firmware. Do not buy it! Yes, it is cheap and looks pretty and has so much potential, but it isn't reliable. You know what is reliable?: Plugging the device directly into the wall.
WeMo stands for unreliable. This app is mostly unable to connect to the switches. Google home and Alexa are actually able to turn the lights on and off while this app can't. Good hardware but horrible software. This app should be scrapped. It's an abomination.
Version 1.17.1 still won't notify about a Firmware update. JUST FIX THIS BUG PLEASE. Version 1.17 still won't notify about firmware 2.00.10937 only iOS does. Still broken how can I force the update on Android? Still stuck at 2.00.10885. PLEASE FIX IT. Tried to test the new long press rule... and it wiped out all my existing rules! Not cool Belkin. Android app never notified me of FW 10885 so had to use wife's iPhone. Not cool. Demoted 2 stars until both bugs are solved.
The app is very slow and unstable. After the latest update, I can't even find my Wemo. "looking for devices" forever. But my ipod touch finds it without any problems.
I advise you not to update at all this app if it is working for you. I have updated and it stopped working with IFTTT . ifttt sends signals to wemo as usual but wemo does not react . very unhappy at the moment. Today I couldn't connect to my devices via mobile internet and cannot activate remote access although 2 switches are paired. Solution: restart your router (more than once sometimes).
Return the product and uninstall. Set up fails at the point of turning the item on to my wifi. All this work wiring in the light swtich and it gets lost within my network. All my other smart times from all the other makes work fine. This is a joke. Buy something that works. I'm returning the item and leaving negative feedback on that as well.
Most unreliable piece of crap I've ever used. 35 other smart devices installed in 30 seconds... every Wemo device takes a week and an act of God to make work. Horrible.
I've had repeated issues updating the hub for my lights. Difficulty with dropped network connectivity. When it is working it's OK but the application is slow to connect. More customization with regard to on/off, fade and schedule would be welcome.
Not steady. Constantly hit or miss interfacing with the devices and amazon. TPLink doing the same has been extremely solid. Regretting buy Wemo light switch and having to use this app.
So far all has worked well. I have turned on the switches from across town! On occasion the Amazon Echo Dot has to be told twice to turn a switch on or off. Somehow the switch didn't receive the command when Alexa thought she turned the switch on or off. That was it's only hick-up.
Only gripe is the sluggish loading of the app every time you open it. Would also like to see more customizable widgets for your home screen. Over all works as advertised
Consistently does not show my switches or shows that they are downloading even though I have them rendering it useless with Alexa. Support is through FB Twitter or phone. Unable to submit issues any other way. Have to uninstall and reinstall regularly to get to work.
The app goes in and out he led it not my wifi. Lists of glitches he's. Great idea but won't buy again. I have outdoor lights on switches
Setup doesn't seem to work with latest Android. Just keeps saying to turn off an Android wifi feature that doesn't exist. App is sluggish just to start and endlessly goes to the walkthrough. Bad experience, sad.
The light bulbs only work occasionally and it is NEVER consistent. The app is not designed that well and also only works occasionally. I would suggest trying another product first.
The app has problems detecting the device and it freezes when you attempt to enable remote access. All of this occurs sitting within 3ft of a wireless router. I had no problems the first 30 days then every mthing went haywire.
After going through a frustrating year, I think the Wemo team has finally got their act together. I'm giving them 4* for the easiest software and firmware update yet. If the remote functions work after a few days, a 5* will be well earned.
Have app to manage home lights including lights out for yiung daughter. Works well but can be a bit tempermental and tough to get timed well. Interested in other manageable items but probably not thermostat yet.
With the latest update, it is much faster, more reliable and now Google home works with it! I am very happy to have these throughout my house, although they are a bit large and clunky. Hope you got enough wall socket space. Lol
Setup was a little confusing at first. Was showing instructions for a WiFi setting I didn't have, but finally got it set up. Small widget support would be great for the most used outlets or lights instead of having to launch the app every time.
Bought two mini wall plugs. Took several minutes to set up, several minutes to update, then they just worked: the app controls them nicely. Google Home did not recognize them immediately though.
This app is terrible. Very hard to set up switches and plugs. It took me approximately 30 minutes just to add a WeMo plug last night. That is absolutely unacceptable. Now it shows all my plugs and switches are on but of course every single light is off in the house because it's daytime Time period even after hitting refresh nothing changes. Major changes need to be made to improve this!
I have had this system for over a year and so far it has been unreliable. It hardly connects and unable to turn the lights on/off when far away. The app, software and the firmware are up-to-date and still experiencing problems. I am planning to remove the devices with a higher-end and reputable system. The idea is right, but it functionality is extremely poor and not reliable at all. I wish the company would have listened to people and do better.
I am not sure if the setup process does not work with Android 7 as it used to work. Bought a new WeMo plug to see if I had a faulty one but seems the app just won't set up a WeMo device on Android 7. Has a very Alpha feel about the whole thing. On an Android 6 device it still feels less than finished.
Worked really well until we upgraded our Verizon Fios modem. Difficulty connecting the devices to the network and they are not always detected. Otherwise when they are working it all works well enough.
Awful set up and outdated instructions and FAQ. Major headache to setup and it still doesn't work properly with Google home as stated. Google will say it's turning off or on WeMo, but WeMo never responds even though it's connected.
Really unreliable app. V 1.17.1 broke loads of stuff. * Away mode no longer works * doesn't display times properly in rules * rules cannot be re-enabled via wifi, only cellular * previous rules from previous version could not be found * app very unresponsive They just don't know how to QA. I had to re-setup 6 wemo switches because their app is so sh*t and wouldn't display any rules. 3rd party apps are much faster and more reliable.
Have tones of problem. A lot of time it doesn't work and it's not simply restart the app or the phone can fix the problem. Had to go through the long process to reset the switch sometimes. I own the other 2 or 3 brand of smart plug/switch and this is the worst one even it's such a popular brand. Already had it for 4 months and still can't connect to the device once a while. My dad's iPhone can't find the device at all and the customer service just said it's his phone problem not helpful at all.
Basic functionality works. Rules have improved with updates. Still no app available on the windows 10 pc. You would think with over a billion pc's in the world they would develop a windows app. No way to manually set wifi settings.

Great idea. Just need the brain to setup the UI to make great. Unable to use 5ghz that is the new norm. Unable to customise well and with ease. Often shows turned on while in the off state. Will get better but so unlike belkin not to have perfected before release. Wired LAN would be great. My whole house in wired in shielded Cat6e as make things work so much faster and reliable.
