There are no real "official Muslim names", although it is understandable if someone thinks of names like "Abdullah (slave of God)" or "Amatullah (female slave of God)"; "Abdurahman (slave of Merciful God)"; "Noor Udeen (light of the religion)", as being "Muslim names".
Many of these types of names were already in use before the time of the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Arabs also used the OPPOSITE MEANING of Names. Superstition prevailed in the times before Islam and the idolators (mushrikeen) believed giving opposite meaning of a name you would protect the child from having that trait or charateristic. This is likely why so many of the companions had names that were so strange, and were told to change their names by the prophet, peace be upon him.

Why names with Meanings?
Muslims must choose a name that has a righteous meaning, that will befit and bring blessings to the child throughout his or her life. It is reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and by your fathers' names, so give yourselves good names. (Hadith Abu Dawud).

Prohibited Names in Islam:
When naming a child, Muslims must avoid names which are prohibited or disliked in Islam. These forbidden names fall into four main categories:
Names That Connote Idolatry
Names That Are Befitting of God Alone
Names of Tyrants
Names With Bad Meanings
